@@JamieFenn hey I tried your settings my audio sounds great on my computer. But after exporting and listening on my phone speakers. It rounds terribly trebly and tinny. I've listen to this video on my same phone and the audio sounds way better than my video.
I've always had this problem. Ive played around with the export settings a ton but I can't get to sound as full. I'm not sure if I mixed something wrong in the side chain but I've followed so many tutorials that are the same but I can't seem to get it. I dunno if it's a hardware issue or not. I use a MacBook pro M1.
Please help!
I watched around 20 videos on editing audio in Resolve, and it took RUclips 19 videos to give me this, the best one yet.
Thank you so much for explaining at all levels.
Glad you finally got around to it!! Much appreciated my friend 🙏🏼
@@JamieFenn One more thing, can you please tell me how to get the audio right for Instagram Reels? I've tried all these settings, and my voice and music are still below average, not coming close to how they sound in Resolve or when exported. I tried AAC, 192 Kbps, -1 true peak, and -16 LUFS, and converted all tracks to mono in a single bus and exported that one. My 1-minute video is about 100 MB, so once I uploaded that as is, and another time I uploaded the converted FFmpeg version (~20 MB), but still, my audio is distorted. :(
And the sources for audio i picked mp3 for music and .wav (full clarity) for voice.
Please help. 🙏🙏🙏
Please let me know if there is something that i missed or dont know.
Can I just say THANK YOU!! Audio is the one thing that I have not been able to get right for months. Did a test session using your instructions and it sounds 100x better. Instant sub from me 👍 Thank you so much brother 👏👏
So happy to hear that this helped you. 👏🏼
I KEEP COMING BACK TO THIS VIDEO!!!
Hell yesss!
Wow! This was an awesome guide. I messed around a bit in fairlight to try to correct some audio a few weeks back and honestly was a bit overwhelmed. Love that you show the effect of the different tools as it goes too, to help get an understanding. I'll definitely reference and rewatch this video a lot! Been watching your videos for a while now and really love all the creative tools you showcase. I really mean it, thanks man!
This is one of the best tutorials I have seen out there going over vocal in Davinci... Thank You!
Wow, you read my mind. I tried fixing audio someone wanted me to use on a video and thought man I really need to learn professional audio.
Hours later I see your video suggested.
Glad you saw it :)
Saving this video, because before editing each one I'll have to rewatch it
It really worked for me after I look and try some tutorials, yours is the one that worked. Owe you a lot.
your entire channel is pure gold!
Tom that seriously means a lot. Thank you so so much!
@@JamieFenn no, i have to thank you!
Hi Jamie, my production particular to my voice over greatly improved since I watched your video last year on Resolve's Fairlight. A lot of thanks and more power. From the Philippines.
The last Equalizer thing was really handy, Thanks Jamie.
You genuinely deserve 10X the subs and views you have, thank you for all the great work!
Hey man thank you so so much 👍🏼👍🏼
THANK YOU MAN! the last tip is a game changer for me!
Great video! I have watched tutorials that didn’t explain the importance of workflow and signal chain process the way you did! Your attention to detail, presentation and straightforward communication was what I needed! Thank you!!!!!!🙏🏾
You're very welcome! Glad you learned a lot and liked the video. Cheers!! 🙏🏼
That send and listen setting with vocal over audio is lit!!
Thanks bro! 💪🏽
YOU BEAST!!! The best of all, NO PLUGINS NEEDED! Excellent video man, I'll try this workflow soon
Ayyyy my man thank you so much. And yea no plug-ins needed! Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
This was so helpful. Thank you for showing examples of what the changes sound like when applied too strongly.
You're so welcome!
The absolute best tutorial on dialogue editing wow 🔥🔥
Wow I really appreciate it thanks!
perfect tutorial ... had some really messy audio on an interview i shot the other day.. fixed! thanks, Jamie!!
Just bought a shure sm7b to start recording audio to make youtube tutorial videos, your audio sounds great i hope mine sounds comparable after i watch this. thanks!
Wow, your channel has been very helpful to me. Thank you for sharing your ability with people like myself. Thank you very much, senpai.
The intro alone was fantastic 🤟🤣.
A bangin' tutorial Jamie - thanks so much for such a cool deep-dive 🙏🏻
Hell yea man thank you!!! 👏🏼
Currently doing a documentary and this is golden thank you
This video is seriously a game-changer. I bought the Deity D3 Pro, and was looking to better adjust the sound on Davinci to come out more crisp! Boy... Was I in for a surprise! This was a mini hands-on crash course. Thanks for the awesome content as always!
I've just started using Resolve so this has been a great video.
Good one Jamie. I use the Fairlight tab for pretty much the same things for voiceover in my videos. By the way, not sure if you mentioned it, but could be worth for others to save the preset on the Vocal channel for future videos, so that they don't have to re-adjust all the voiceover settings as well. And, the last part of your tutorial where you showed the cross fade and equaliser combo was a great tip. Didn't know about that, and it makes a great effect! Thanks bud 👍
Aw yes. Should have added that at the end. But on the other hand even if you make a preset each application of the mixing tools will differ from track to track and video to video.
This video was a huge help for me. I am just starting on my content creation journey. Thank you!
That's awesome to hear. Thank you so much!!!
I totally cannot hear the difference between the edited and unedited clip, but I'm hoping that if I keep trying to learn I will be able to spot the difference soon. Great video! Thank you for your insight.
Excellent video. Thorough, useful, and explained at exactly the right level. Thank you so much!
Just moved to Resolve from PP…this video is everything I was looking for, thank you
That’s awesome I’m glad I could help!!
This helped my audio a bunch Jamie, thanks so much for taking the time.
No problem. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏼
Thank you, Man !!! This tutorial is brilliant also for people who are switching to DR from Premier :)
Really needed this tutorial
Thank you, Jamie. Your video is very professional and helpful.😀
You’re so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome Jamie, it compliments your other vid on voice overs, which I have saved under my 'davinci sound' playlist - my go to. Just added this one mate, love your work bro
Hell yea that's awesome. Thank you so much!
Thank you for the tutorial. I have yet to download Davinci and mainly need it for audio for narrating and voiceovers. Although this was very helpful, I really need help with learning these adjustments for voice. Do you have other videos on this? I will be searching your page. Thanks
This is outstanding. The best tut about sound, ever! Thanks Jamie your Awesome 😀👊🙌
Martin my dude. Thanks a ton!! 🙏🏼
@Jamie Fenn I am considering starting a YT channel on a niche market and this video is perhaps on of the best I have found on the (critical) topic of audio editing. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!
Glad it was helpful!
@@JamieFenn I will replay it again alter and toy with some audio I recorded recently 😁. Quick question, can DVR record a video interview/podcast? (I have a cam, a mic, an interface but can u record the interviewee's audio and video?) thank you!
It can but you wouldn’t want to do it that way. If you’re doing interviews and stuff a dedicated cam for that would be better.
Thanks @@JamieFenn I think I "kind of" sorted it out. I am getting a dfferent interface with loopback function so I can record both my audio and the interviewee's audio from the computer. For the video, I will need some video capture solution (I will use my gh5ii for my side, not sure how I will record the interviewee's video yet). Have a good weekend!
Thank you for sharing. In 2023 I want to start vodcasting (video podcasting). Audio recording in reaper, video in OBS and bring them together in DaVinci Resolve. That way I can edit the podcast and render the video and audio and export short clips for the socials. Now I do all my editing in Reaper and use FX like RX, Waves vocal rider, Fabfilter Pro and iZotope.
Those plugins are GOLD.
Awsome tutorial! it could be awsome if you do a 5.1 tutorial also and even better a Atmos 5.1.2 tutorial! Thank you!
big love Jaime ✌️
Thank you so much man, amazing tutorial!!! Subscribed
Thanks for the sub!
This is exactly what I am looking for on fair light. Thank you so much! 🙏
You're so welcome!
You are insane, i'm leaving sony vegas, I will learn to edit in davinci
. 🤩
Just what I was looking for! Thank you :)
omg when i heard sidechain i immediately though about the horrors of sidechaining in cubase a long time ago hahahaha
crazy man i liked this video a lot, the release in the sidechain was low and it sounds like u said in the video but actually you can use that to create some interesting effects, especially with instruments haha nice.
hahaha
Nice, about 20 minutes ago i knew next to nothing about vocal processing. I worked along on my own voice in resolve, the difference is just bizarre, thanks!
Glad I could help!
Thank you, this was very helpful!
Thank you. Hard to manage sound un videos. Very useful tuto :)
I don't have a super professional mic, and it wasn't set up right anyway so the sound quality of the clip wasn't great to begin with. This made it sound a lot better though, so I appriciate the tips
Sincerely an aspiring youtube trying to build a channel and wear a lot of hats
Oh jeez, what I needed! THANKS!
Me too
Just what I needed, thank you Jamie
I really love your tutorial, but one thing confused me a bit at the end. You can get rid of the pumping effect by tweaking the "hold" and "release" times, so that the music keeps being compressed between the words. Especially if you often switch between parts with voiceovers and parts with no voiceovers, you can definitely save the time for the volume adjustments because the side chain will do that automatically for you. 👌
It just depends on the original audio signal. Sometimes people talk fast or slow, and how quick you want the audio to come back depends on those hold and release times. Hope that clears things up!
Thank you for the tutorial; it was helpful.
However, I noticed an issue in your final A/B testing at 12:22 . Both sounds should ideally have the same volume for a fair comparison. Yet, the treated sound appears louder as evident from the peak meter 12:30 . This makes it challenging to judge the results accurately.
Wow! I like this thank you
Thanks for the video, very helpful and well explained. Off to make so soft
Amazing tutorial, so helpful :)
Can you make this a regular feature? Where you run through some real world examples, and show a workflow, of cleaning up audio.
I’ll see what I can do!
yeah that would be amazing!
Hi Jamie it's nice to finally find your channel If you please make a tutorial about how to make radio talking audio effects like the communication between the aircraft pilot and the airport tower. I will be appreciated thanks.
I already have. “Talking on phone effect”
Love your work bro! This is a great video! Thanks!!!
Appreciate it! You’re welcome 💪🏽
This was an awesome tutorial bro! Thanks so much!
No problem!
Awesome, thanks so much. I'm just finalizing a video and I have to mix the audio. Will apply everyy tips of your video 👍👍👍🙂
So glad you saw this then. Hope it makes your audio better!!
best that i want
This is fantastic
this is so helpful thank you Jamie
Glad it was helpful! 🙏🏼🙏🏼😊
Awesome! thank you.
No problem! Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Respect ♥
You're Dynamic playback has a lot of circle visualization effects on-screen for the grid pop-up menu. Is that a new feature of DR 18 or is that a separate plug-in that you're using? Thanks for the info as well, really valuable. I didn't know about the Soft Clip or really how to use the Expander.
To get rid of that pumping effect you can also make the release more longer too :D
Then you’re basically just turned the volume down of the entire track. The way I show you makes it a tighter mix!
you are my best buddy, thank you
Happy to help!
Thank you for the great and helpful video! It would be nice if your "explanatory voice" was as loud as the demo samples.
Not sure what you mean. But I had to record the raw sample track with the added processing throughout the entire video. And then at the end they are pretty balanced. This was actually one of the hardest videos I ever had to record/edit!
@@JamieFenn Hello and greetings. So when I look at this again your explaining voice is clearly louder than your sample where you explain the settings. To really hear what you change I always have to make the sound louder and when you speak then again significantly softer. (tested with headphones and speakers)
It is also only a hint. The video is otherwise really good!
cute and all, I just want to know how to make the mixer windows bigger! it's so freaking tiny >,< !!
Thank you sir
Thank you 👌
You’re so welcome!
Thanks to your tips, the voice in my head had more body when I typed this comment.
Can you change pitch (transpose) a karaoke song and create an mp4 output?
When will Fairlight get a midi-editor. I just don't get why they don't. It more or less standard in pretty much every other DAW.
I recorded a show with Tascam. A show with singers and musicians. I connected through the soundman. What is the volume limit in editing. Minus 3 dB, minus 6 dB. Or another?
Thanks
How to enable video scroller in this audio window ?
Thanks for the video. One thing that isn't clear to me is when you are doing the EQ Notch filtering for Band 2 and 3. What exactly are the "problem frequencies"? I am not sure exactly what to be listening for. If you could do a follow up video where you show more specifically what you are listening for when doing the notch filtering, that would be great. Anyway, thanks again for the video. I learned a lot.
When boosting listen for the part that makes your ears cringe. I’ve been producing music for years so it’s a bit easier for me but when you do it a lot you’ll train your ears to really listen.
super helpful! Thank 😊
You're so welcome!
thxs for this
This might be a stupid question, I'm new to Davinchi and fairlight, once I follow this and get everything set for my voice, can you save it as a present or do I have to do this every time I do a voice over
Great video and tips...question though, i noticed your levels were all well into the red in the meters. do you end up bringing the BUS down in the end or do you push the levels to hit the -14 LUFS for youtube causing the meters to seem like they're clipping?
Yep that's exactly what I do. I typically bring the master bus down to -4 and it seems to always be in the ball park of -14 LUFS!
@@JamieFenn I always struggle getting my videos to -14. When my loudness meter comes back saying I’m right there in the ballpark after uploading to RUclips my stats for nerds is never at 100%.
Hey, was a good video, thank you. One question, how I can reduce the reverbe inside Davinci ?
Not sure what you mean. Reduce the reverb? Reverb is an added effect
How do you do this? I genuenly dont hear a difference in all the single steps but the end thing sounds so much better
You have to really LISTEN. Headphones help as well.
Thank you so much! Just a question to desser: When I check or uncheck "listen to ess only" which one do I choose? Like both have pros and cons sometimes. They are not applied at the same time as far as I understand since they are quite the oppiste.
I’m confused.. what do you mean which one do you choose? You either turn it on or off. When you listen to it on you have to narrow down the frequencies you want to suppress.
13:08 really helped, thank you so much :)
You're welcome!
Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Great video bro
Thanks dude!
-3db seems a little high, no? The mixers I've worked with usually cap it @ -12db or -6db. Any particular reason you run things that loud?
I guess if youre working with 32-bit audio it doesnt really matter, since your only limit is the speakers you're screening on.
You can just adjust the master down.
Thanks for making this video. What do you do if you have have multiple different interviews with different types of voices? It seems inefficient to put each interview on a different audio track.
Different types of voices will need it’s own eq, compression, and volume settings as no one’s voice is the same. Therefore no settings will be the same
@@JamieFenn word, completely agree. Every YT tutorial on Fairlight does a EQ, Dynamic Processing, Effects, etc on a single audio track with one voice. It would be great to see a tutorial that deals with multiple people. I don't think the solution is putting every different interview on a seperate track? Anyway, your video got me where I needed to go - so thank you!
Yes amazing
So you say to do these and you say to mess around with the settings but what do each of these settings we are changing do?
I'm new, is it possible to make a video with music with a visual effect of the beat ... I have some ideas but I don't know where to start, installed with DaVinci Resolve but where to start?
Yes you can. I’m thinking about making a tutorial on it. :)
2:46 how do you decide what frequency range you should be aiming for? I have a relatively higher pitch, how would my range different from yours when making adjustment? thank you!
Everyone is different. Females generally have higher voices so you can cut more low end. It’s best to use headphones and train your ears.
How much of this can be done on the FREE version of Davinci Resolve? Thanks for everything you teach us!
All of it
@@JamieFenn Thanks! I'm hyped now1
i'm gonna rena and change color on my channel to stay super organized
Is there a way to save all those changes in a preset to just quickly apply to further audios/voiceoverS?
