Did you see the road at Little Paxton when the water subsided? The tarmac had come away leaving the original brick and cobble road which looks beautiful.

Scary stuff. Glad the rust bucket was safe from the floods! 🤞🏻😮‍💨
Just bend the metal legs on the rain cap outwards so it fits more snuggly in the chimney. That’s what we did and it’s been going strong for 2 winters!

Can I point out that waterways, that in the past were commercial, are no longer dredged to their commercial operating depths. Bit basic but smaller hole = less drainage?

@@Sco1fulthe great Ouse’s main function is to get water away from the land, its secondary purpose is for boats,us boaters pay a fortune to use the great Ouse but most of the time we can’t use it,broken locks, silt buildup and lack of effective dredging is a nightmare to say the least

Exactly. But we're being fed the line that all the flooding is unusual. It's only unusual because they've stopped mainting the system. Fries my blood. 🤬

Thank you for showing us the flooding. Am so sorry for everyone it’s unimaginable what Mother Nature can do. I’m from Arizona Arizona which is a desert area but we get flash floods. But nothing to the extent you are dealing with. Thankfully your Narrowboat is safe. Did see one video showing a Narrowboat that got lose from it’s mooring due to the flooding and got stuck next to a bridge. Sadly they were trying to move it to safety but they made it worse and it sank. So sorry for the owners. Their home totally destroyed. Again thank you for your reporting on the flooding.

Thank you for watching, its so sad seeing all the destruction and the loss it has caused, Thankfully boats float most of the time so as long as you stay in control things should hopefully go ok. we dd see the video...how terrible, especially as they were trying to help correct the position of the poor boat

    Happy 24 both.
Your chimney Chinaman's hat,you drill through the chimney and fix with a small nut and bolt to stop it falling off. That is a common practice amongst boaters.
Hopefully the waters will subside soon.
Keep warm dry and virus free both.

Hey Chris, Hey Becca, welcome back missed you both. Time the two of you considered a career change and start your own news station on RUclips lol. You guys did great on the flood report.
As for the chimney cap issue, you have two choices. One do nothing and have a supply of chimney caps or use your trusty drill and impale a couple of holes through the chimney and struts. Then use a couple of bolts, washers and nuts. You might also get away with some sheet metal screws. DO make sure it is removable so that you can clean the chimney out periodically.
    Stay safe,
    Mark

Hi Mark, thank you so much! Haha!!! We're glad you enjoyed our crack at news reporting!!! Thanks so much for your suggestion. We definitely think we are gonna go down the bolt route now as its too loose to just sit in the top. We will forever be replacing it!! Thanks for the tip about it being removable though that's a really good point. Many thanks again, sending warm wishes your way over in Canada 😊

    Hi Becca and Chris.
Yeah it’s been pretty Mad with the Flooding over here in Bedford, the embankment was flooded and apparently some Swans actually swam into part of the Swan Hotel Lol 😂.
Great Barford was quite bad,the infamous Bridge, nothing was getting under that thing !.
I do need to point something out to you about Road Closure signs, just so you are aware for the future,if you proceed further than the Road Closure signage or move any cones etc then you are at serious risk of getting a Fine, the fine for it is £1000 😳.
Don’t know if you have ever seen the videos of Rufford Ford ? Where cars and tractors etc drive through even though the Road and Ford have been Closed ? Well a lot of those Drivers not only got Wet Feet, and a hydrolocked Engine , they got £1000 Fines as well.
So just be careful when you are out and about.
I think we are going to be getting some seriously Cold weather now… -4 or less with wind chill so I bet you are going to be extremely glad you have your Wood burner stove all sorted.
Chimney I think you have to Drill and rivet or use small nuts n bolts.
Snow is definitely in the Air,you can feel it on the Wind,a lot of people are thinking 🤔 " We won’t get it " but something is definitely coming, you can feel it in your Bones .
Keep Safe Guys and keep nice and toasty and warm ❤

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  5 месяцев назад

so sorry to hear, hope you all safe up that way, oh woaw...the swans coming right inside would have been a perk. we had the same with the bridges this way. yes I did wonder if we could get a fine..what can I say Becca is relentless😂😂
I did see the video of the guy that drove through with his mini...thats was just silly.
It looks like snow is on the way so from one thing we dont deal with to great down here and onto another.Keep safe and will see you on the next on ❤️

I see that you asked who would live on a narrow boat..???
I would like to say .I was born on a narrow boat . and lived on one for over sixty five years.
The only people you can blame for the flooding is the c.r.t. they have not kept up with the maintenance . of the canal system.
A few years ago I noticed that they were building houses on one of the drain off areas . that used to elevate the flooding of the canal system ???
The more they build on flood plains the worse the flooding will become.
Unfortunately government will tell you it's down to global warming..??? And not the fact that we have had this type of weather for donkeys years..
Without. Mass flooding..??? Anyway stay safe and well folks

      @TheNomadicCrobot  5 месяцев назад

Oh wow that's amazing! Are you a land lubber now then!?
Yeah we are hearing lots of talk of this nature. It's amazing really given just how much we pay for our river licence! We have definitely seen evidence of this ourselves. You are absolutely right about building on flood lands too, it's incredibly short sighted to think these houses won't suffer in the future when inevitably it will flood again. We actually saw some photographs of flooding in St Neots in the late 1800's which was pretty incredible to see too! Thanks so much for your comment. Sending well wishes your way x

It is very worrying as there is extreme flooding across the UK and the EA have plenty to answer for - with building continually occurring on flood plains - it is interesting as, although we have had more rainfall over oct-dec, this is still not significantly higher than previous years, so why? Oh well, better go to the pub and try and drink some to bring the level down!

There used to be 2 bucket dredgers in Gloucester docks, one of which was still operational. Oil tanker boats used to go up the Severn to Stourport-on-Severn, Conaco Depot. You can still see the remains of the wharf just before you reach Stourport.

I feel for the people affected and just hope no one was hurt. As roving reporters, you both did an amazing job. I wonder where all that water is actually going? It's all flowing the one way (downhill), but where does it empty out into? Or will it seep down into the water table? Great to hear the "Dramatic" music. Chris put in some disgreet sound effects which made me smile. Chris is so good with his editing. Glad everything is well in your Marina. Your stove was looking lovely in the opening footage. Well word has it that they drain Denver sluice area in order to try channel some of the water in that direction. As for the water logged areas on land, presumably once the water table is rebalanced it can reabsorb? I'm not exactly sure myself! But that's my best guess! Thanks so much and the same to you 💕

Well, that's us all caught up on all your videos, and what a journey!
I thought I'd mark the moment with a little poem, so here goes...
    Long ago and far away
Chris and Bex came out to play
For they did buy a barrowboat
In the hopes to live afloat
    Watching their journey,
    We've laughed and cried
So far it's been one hell of a ride
A leak was found right at the start
And they did rip that boat apart
Beneath the floor, a sad affair
    Rust and water everywhere
Others may have fled the scene
But Crobots, no, they have a dream
To live inside their floaty home
    Along the waterways, they'd roam
So off to screwfix, they did go
To tackle the water down below
There's only one thing for the task
What is that? I hear you ask
The mighty titan, he's your guy
He will get those bilges dry
So armed with overalls, tools, and masks
They set about their many tasks
Dry it out and rid the rust
Aqua steel, it was a must
Many a brush and a roller nose
The mighty titan and his hose
Lots of wood, nails, and screws
    Barbecues and a little booze
They work away, play, laugh, and cry
Bex works hard, Chris does try😉
Can't wait to see them living life
    As intended, with no strife
Cruising the cut on their floaty home
Free at last to wander and roam
    Thanks guys 😁

Little Paxton and St Neots is always been prone to flooding when l moved to St Neots in 2004, the floods covered the playing fields leaving only the cross bar of the goal post visible and flooded the road going up to the golf club . Alot of houses in these flood areas have garages on the ground level and living area above due to the flooding. Just abit of boring info😂😂😂😂

    • @TheNomadicCrobot

I think probably what they did was put the sluice gate down to keep the flow out of the lock in order that they could open the paddle gates. That would reduce the force of water inside the lock enough to allow them to open the paddle gates and then afterwards open the sluice gate to allow the huge flow of water to run through if that makes sense!? Absolutely, now to make the rest of the boat beautiful ❤️
