I have a love/hate relationship with Python. It’s probably the best ship in game (!?) but I hate the off centre cockpit. Forces me to want to love the Krait MkII. However, I always end up back with Python

    • @gamingsnipsandbits

It's a tough one between the Krait and the Python - as you say, the off-centre cockpit is an irritation, but the Python excels in areas that the Krait is just lacking a little on - thinking internal slots more than anything (so more passengers / armour / cargo ETC).
Either way, both brilliant ships - I tend to use my Krait as an all-rounder, but my Pythons for more dedicated roles.

For me, the off-center cockpit arrangement of the Python was a distraction at first, however after years of flying Pythons, I don't even notice that any more. The FDL is even worse than the Python where cockpit asymmetry is concerned, but even that becomes routine after while.

@@gamingsnipsandbits I personally have an affection for the side by side cockpit arrangement. It's nearly identical to the Cobra, which I love, and I actually once went on a date with my wife that included a multicrew VR tour of the Sol system in my multirole Python. Nerdy, yes, but we made it surprisingly romantic, ending parked on the rim of an ice canyon on one of Saturn's moons.

My favourite ship, and the main cause of me being so slow to try out many of the other ships (didn't even try the FdL until last night, despite clocking a rather high number of hours in the game). My "daily driver" is a fairly combat-oriented build but with decent cargo space and jump range and an SRV, and pretty much everything engineered for speed, range and combat survivability. I also have one for mining, and I even got one outfitted for exploration just to try it out - it's not its ideal role, but decent enough and got me through the Formidine Rift and back.
Beside being a very nice all-rounder, the fact that it can carry a decent load and only require an M-pad makes it one of the most useful ships in the game. I don't even notice the off-centre pilot position anymore...

I love this kind of videos. For what it is ED does not have a precise match in other games. Some thing they do better but they do not have the (scale of ED universe - SC in particular), or the feel of piloting a ship (Star field in particular).
Regarding the python I like the love we share towards the python. When I started the game I was advised that this is the ship I must have when transitioning from small to medium ships. Even I received donations to get the ship. The reason is that every experienced commander has at least one, bu some have two engineered pythons in their fleet. The reason: the python is the master of BGS. There are mission that require medium landing slot and the python is the best thing you can get to make those missions.
In combat the Python behaves like a big ship even fully engineered. So I called it pocket battle ship. It has the firepower of much bigger ships due to its huge power distributor for the size. And we know that we are not just limited by the number of gun slots but the main bottleneck is the power distributor.
For pure combat I prefer Kraitm MKII which offers the pinnacle of speed, size and maneuverability. The Python does the job but you will have less fun with it, as it is designed to deal damage and absorb damage not to outmaneuver the opponents.

“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” - Shakespear.
I have done everything with my Python. It can DO everything, and better than you think. I flew an unengineered DBX out to Colonia to begin a career as a Miner in a Python. Between the exploration funds and mining I made over two Billion credits, then I flew the Python back (Mo money mo money). THEN, after getting into flying rescue missions for The War, I've started engineering it. Dirty drag drives do more than make it fast, they make it more nimble. Two large cannons and a large beam laser made it deadly to Colonia's pirate community, dropping them at home for the rescue missions just made her faster. If you're broke and can only buy one ship, buy a Cobra MkIII and save up until you can get the Python. It's a joy to fly, whether supercruising to Hutton or stepping down to land on a high G planet. Python is my favorite ship.

  • @Datan0de
    @Datan0de Год назад

The Cobra Mk III is the ship I love the most, but if I could only ever fly one ship it would be its big brother, the Python. It's the only ship I own three of: a general purpose ship, a Thargoid Scout hunter, and a medium freighter. The Scout hunter can erase Scouts all day (I have other ships for the big guys), the freighter has impressive capacity but can hold its own in a fight, and the general purpose has taken me on the most adventures and is my go-to when I don't know what the day is going to bring me.

Python truly is the best jack of all trades with the least drawbacks. I spent so much time with mine pretty much doing a little bit of everything aside from mining, until the Krait mk2 came out. I really wanted a good ship with an SLF (hadn't decided how to build my Anaconda yet & dabbled with them on a Keelback), so I gutted my Python's modules for the Krait and it's kinda sat for awhile afterwards. I recently gave it another go and sent it to Robigo for some tourism once again... think I'll buy myself another one to keep there instead and bring my OG Python back to either cargo hauling or to try mining for once.

Thanks for the "Python love". Very much in agreement with you. It's not perfect (speed and maneuverability could be better) but with engineering...it just works. Love the Python's looks (by comparison, the Krait MkII reminds me of a smashed pack of cigarettes). I've got 5: Explorer, Miner, Trader and 2 for Combat (anti-pirate and anti-XO). Rarely find the motivation to fly anything else.

With the one exception of my total engineered for distance including the fact that I've got 4 srv's and 30 available fighter's in my "FUN EXPLORING CONDA". I've well over 6,500 hour's envolved in my one and only Python, totally engineered core's and other's which I change from time to time, based on what I want to accomplish in the bubble. Having but two ship's and knowing exactly how, where and what to engineer the various componet's. Make doing so, considerably easier, faster and once done. SO MUCH MORE TIME to actually play once the grind is done. The more ship, the more time spent not having fun, unless of course one is a masocistic. The "GRIND" I know and accept is a personal thing. But regardless of how much one supposedly doesn't mind, it's still a "GRIND". Or as it's been stated. A rose by any other name is still a dam rose.

But assuming you are making decent money doing something in the game why would you only have one ship??? There are arguably better ships for hauling, better ships for mining, better ships for combat. For me there is only one thing it is unbeatable for, and that is Robigo Mines. Fit out your Python and go fill your boots.

I have heard it said that the Python is good at doing just about anything in Elite Dangerous but it isn't the best at anything. But it is the best at one thing I say, and that is being good at everything. :) I have moved on to the Imperial Cutter for most things these days but I never fit it for more than 656 tonnes of cargo because any heavier and it drifts excessively even with Grade 5 engineered thrusters.

That sums it up well - unless you count it as also being the best medium sized hauler that's out there. Can carry a decent haul and land on pretty much any outpost / station that's out there.
As for the Cutter - it's an excellent miner and hauler - although IMO there are better options for combat (Federal Corvette for example)

  • @gisterme2981
    @gisterme2981 Год назад

Awesome presentation. 'Couldn't agree more with your conclusions about the Python.
The Python is the biggest ship that can land almost anywhere! Sure, there are other ships that can better fill particular niches, but the Python is no slouch across a wide range of such niches.
The Python can't mine or deliver 700 tons of resources at a single go like a Type 9 or Clipper can, but neither of those can deliver 200 tons of anything to an orbital outpost like the Python can. That gives the Python many more market choices than the larger ships.
As a combat ship, even a "Merchant" Python build can carry enough firepower and armor to bring quick karma to many attackers. I think that the Imperial Clipper is the only one among the "big three" that may have a higher boost speed than the Python. That said, if combat is expected, there may be better choices. Krait Mk II or FDL please.
I have three Pythons too, one for outside-the-bubble mining, one for trade and one that's a merchant "tank" that gets morphed for special needs . IMO the Python is far and away the best general purpose ship in the ED galaxy. If this commander had to choose only one ship to ply this galaxy, it would be the Python. However, I'm grateful that there are so many other options. Larger scale transactions require larger scale ships.

It's such a good all round ship I think the devs realised they needed to nerf it so made it horribly slow, otherwise it really would be the only ship you'd bother buying. Tbh I hardly use mine now though. I use the Asp as a taxi and Anaconda or FDL for combat, Type 9 for trade, and when I get the Corvette the Anaconda will be relegated to the back of the garage with my Python. I see the Python as a small Anaconda. the only benefit is it can use medium pads.

There's not a lot in it between them - due to the extra size 6, the Python is better as an all rounder, since it can carry more cargo / passengers.
Despite this meaning the Python can by extension equip more armour, I think the Krait is more combat-focused. It's more agile, has higher potential DPS because of the fighter, has a better viewing angle and as you say, also can boost continuously, even without engineering.

I just wish the python had more character. It does look very generic compared to the other ships. I wish they had more ships geared more towards asteroid mining. I think miners should be big, ugly, and blocky. The python doesnt look bad just not as great as some of the other ships.

I really like the Viper Mark IV.
It’s sad that the multipurpose vehicles are so overpowered. They should be very solid, but not always the only correct choice. The python does trading better than and medium size craft. That’s poor balance. The Type 6 should at least beat it at its own game. Honestly I would have adjusted the type six to max out the small landing pad, have the type 7 max out the medium pad.

    • @gamingsnipsandbits

Agreed - for dedicated transport ships, you'd expect them to be a cut above the competition, but given the Type-7 barely carries more than the Python, but uses a large pad, it feels like a trick was missed.
As for the Viper MK4, it took a while for me to gel with it - I absolutely love the MK3 - it's probably one of my favourites, but the MK4 felt off - probably because internally it looks the same, so I was part expecting it to feel the same. Now I've worked out what it's good 4 though (pun intended), it's right up there for me - it's been a short-range explorer, a combat ship and a small trader - with it's latest role being for Thargoid scout-bashing. It's more versatile than the Viper 3, although it doesn't have the multi-role chops of the Cobra MK3. Although the Viper MK3 is more fun to actually fly.

@@gamingsnipsandbits I like it as a small(target), nimble(with engineering of course), heavily armored, jump capable(it’s been a while, but I think it’s like 30LY) combat ship that can A rate stuff and not need every kg shaved. I don’t consider it a multi role, but it is surprising how much you can pack into it while not really affecting things like jump range and combat capabilities. Heat and power haven’t given me trouble. Hardpoint placement is quite good all around. The thing can really take a beating, and while not incredibly fast or agile, it’s small enough that getting hits isn’t the easiest thing. I think it looks damn good, and a tad better than the Mark III, and that’s without discussing spoilers. 😉I think it’s a good ship overall.

Off centre is the biggest issue I've got. Downward view would be nice for mining / exploration, but would also come with the issue of being more exposed to incoming fire during combat, so as with the Eagle / Viper, it's a compromise that I can live with

Not true after engineering. 491 m/s boost (w/Mil.Grade armor). Equipped w/3 Large & 2 Medium Enhanced AX Multi-cannons, outrunning is not always necessary. Maneuverability is plenty adequate. Coriolis rates stock Python agility at 129 vs 126 for the Krait MkII. I have an armed Python explorer that can jump more than 50 LY. Altogether the Python is a lot more CAN than CAN'T; so, yeah, a great ship. And for me, personally, I love the way it looks, especially compared to that smashed pack of cigarettes that is the Krait Mk II.

@gamingsnipsandbits honestly tho, the mk2 won't change much. If its going to compete with the pvp ships, then it won't be competitive against the Mk1 Python. Python will still be the king of cargo, missions, and mining that you can strap guns to. The python mk2 will make the Krait into another sidelined fighter hauling craft like the FGS. It'll be more nimble, have way better dps, better armor and shields. I don't think the Krait is gonna have much of a place in pvp/pve after the Python MK2 finishes its shakedown courses.

I do like my Corvette, but as you say, the grind is soul destroying. The only "rankable" ship I'm missing at the moment is the Cutter, which I'll have to get eventually, but I'm putting it off at the moment. Mostly because there's much better things to be doing in the galaxy than endless data-transfers for rep with our Imperial overlords.
