Stay tuned for Part 2 of this video. Mario figured out there were a few issues with his Cats that were creating a problem for the exhaust. It’s all corrected now and it sounds different. We’re going to compare his “finished” or fixed Soul PP exhaust, to the set up in this video and my stock exhaust. Stay tuned!!
Ok, I'm gonna comment as if it were my car. I would find my stock exhaust as fast as I could, do the fister mod instead of the souless, I would strip every decal/stripe off my car, remove the spoiler, leave the stone guard, upgrade the rear tail lights to 997.2's , put the original 'Carrera" emblem on the back, find some 997.2 19" stock wheels, remove the coilovers, put back the stock suspension. That's about as honest as I can get on a holiday week. Mario's car looks like a s2000 more then a Porsche. Sorry, sorry but it's true.
Truly agree with this statement, but as individuals, and as Porsche owners we have our personal taste. When the designers and mechanical engineers built the 997 they placed art, design and mechanics into a full well rounded package as they came away from the troubled design and sales of the 996. I mostly like it stock, with a few very minor mechanical and body upgrades.. maybe a little more from that exhaust, and a little more body armor would of been nice from the original 997, still toying with the idea of the Fister exhaust, but it will remain stock for now :-). Researching more about the cold air intake on the Carrera S. Speaking to a mechanic who is on the Porsche racing team. I was told that that original air box and air valving on the intake was designed and tuned for that engine, so if i were to replace it, should have the air fuel mix re-tuned? Great vlog, nice to see new videos for the winter James..
I think the Soul performance exhaust sounds great, my only negative is that ( at least on this video ) it no longer sounds like a Porsche, which is a sound I've come to recognise and love over the years. Of course this is a personal feeling and in no way detracts from what he has done with his car. ( my car : 2009 gen 2 4s cab ). great videos, keep them coming.
Maybe i am too classic, but this soul exhaust sounds horrible. I like yours, its a good balance between an elegant Porsche and an aggressive exhaust sound
I have a 981 Cayman S PDK with Soul Performance headers and 200 cell cats mated to PSE. It still has that traditional Porsche wail only LOUDER. But, it is pretty tame when the PSE valves are closed. I'll be honest and say the valves are rarely closed. I think the header/PSE combo works quite well and it still has that Porsche sound only more racy. Dropping it into Sport+ and nailing it is insane when overtaking someone on a country road. That and a tune give an additional 35HP.
Hey folks! In this modified cut of the original video I’ve added some information about the specs of both cars (noting that the silver 997 also has some other mods in addition to the Soul PP exhaust, I’ve added some extra footage of both cars driving on the road, accelerating away from the camera, and also corrected the contact information for Eurocharged Minneapolis. Enjoy! Again! 🤩
Happy thanksgiving Heidi! So lovely to hear from you! I’ve been continuing to follow your videos. Every one is so enjoyable and you keep raising the bar! 🙌♥️
James great video! I kind of wish you would have also included a car with the factory PSE like I have to see the difference of each. Just by the video it sounds as the Soul exhaust is a bit louder than mine which would put it at my limit. To be honest sometimes is hard to tell from a video. Can't wait til next season to see whats coming on your car. Lastly I need a stripe like yours!
Thanks for the support Jose! Hope all is well with you! Great idea about a car with PSE, I’m not sure if I know anyone with that option. One for another video though! Stock vs. PSE vs. Soul!
James!!! I suppose I could possibly maybe follow you into 991 territory. But and it’s a big ol but my 997 seems to look back at me as I shake the keys and say “ya wanna go for a ride”? Shakes it’s butt and says ... Yay. Let’s do it mate!
I prefer OEM exhaust on this case, I own a gts 997.2 that it comes already with sport exhaust on it, it sounds perfect for the car with the opened valve, if I was your friend I'd bring back the car with the exhaust oem, it's just my opinion.
I’m going back and forth between the 997.1 Turbo or the 991.1 or 991.2 C2S. The only thing pushing me to look at the 991 gen is the interior. I love the upgrades from the 997. I much prefer the look and drive of the 997 though.
@@AutoAmateur The 997 naturally aspirated is the last of the best of the true mechanical affordable Porsche's like the late 930 era. They will start increasing in valve, as a matter of fact they are on their way up.. hang on to it if possible. Absolutely nothing wrong with the 991 and now the 992, very nice cars but they just have too much technology, but like everything else Porsche has to keep up with the auto world.
Thanks Roy! I actually came this close to selling my 997 to a private party who made me offer this week. I was soooooo close to pulling the trigger and I had the 991 in my sights. I’m glad I didn’t sell but now I’m looking at 997 Turbos... haha. 🤷♂️🤦🏼♂️
That thing is LOUD with the valves open. I don't know why or where you would want it to be that loud. Maybe a car meet? Stop light next to some teenager who thinks his WRX is all that? I would prefer the way it sounds with the valves closed to be the loud one and stock to the be the other. But dang! it sounds like a race car!
Its my understanding the stock exhaust on the S is very different to the base model. The base model has free flowing pipes to maximize the 3.6 engine and get to 325 bhp. The S was the opposite in that they used the exhaust to limit the power to 385 to avoid overlap with higher spec models. So the S model should have received a much bigger boost than the base model will by changing exhaust.
Soul sounds like a Japanese tuner exhaust. No longer like a Porsche. Stock or Gundo hack much nicer. I am pals with “Gundo” actually, and am having lunch with him in a couple weeks. Can’t believe his exhaust hack got so popular! He has a 997.1 S cab as I do, and it sounds great!
Stay tuned for Part 2 of this video. Mario figured out there were a few issues with his Cats and a hose or two that were creating a problem for the exhaust. It’s all corrected now and it sounds different. We’re going to compare his “finished” or fixed exhaust, to the set up in this video and my stock exhaust. Stay tuned!!
Auto Amateur yes, he started hosting a work on cars at his home years ago where other Porsche enthusiasts from the area could come over and do oil changes and stuff. Very fun and he experimented with the Gundo hack to save folks from having to pay big bucks for a factory PSE. Sounds very similar for much less!
I know this is an exhaust video and I must say that I’m glad you went for the Soul. I couldn’t help noticing though that Mario’s rear tires looked beastly next to yours. Was I just seeing things?
Your stock exhaust on the black 911 sounds terrible like most 997.1 or .2's. The silver 997.1 sounds great as SOUL makes a wonderful product. However, the silver 997.1 needs new motor mounts badly. The tips are hanging so badly it makes the rear of the car look like shit as it has not been maintained. Pick up some RSS semi solid motor mounts for God sake. Can't he see that his exhaust is sagging? The whole motor is.
Woah there, Jason. Take a breath! Easy does it. 😳 Mario had a few installation challenges with the positioning of the tail pipes / tips. His stock tips, from the previous exhaust, fit just fine. There wasn’t an issue with them. He’s working with Soul PP to find a solution to the issue. I’ll pass on your suggestion about the motor mounts though. Thanks!
@@AutoAmateur Google or search in Rennlist signs your motor mounts are shot and you will see what I mean. No offense meant. After about 60-70,000 miles (or God only knows how old the car is at a minimum 10 years for the gen 1) motor mounts especially Porsche mounts tend to sag and this is exactly what is going on with your friends car. It's a cheap and easy fix. I installed mine in about an hour. RSS makes some wonderful semi solid mounts that change the entire driving experience. On a side note - If you like the sound of your muffled car with stock exhaust, then that's all that matters. Like your kit of arrow on the back. I think it looks good but others may not. It's your 911 make it what you want. I have a full cat back exhaust, aftermarket motor mounts, currently working with exclusive option to replace every single piece of shitty plastic in my interior and replacing with OEM sand beige (which it looks like we share), aftermarket Pioneer deck powering Focal coaxials, carbon fiber external mirrors from McCarbon, powder coated gloss black Carerra II wheels. Point is, it's your car. Do what you want with it. Your buddy's exhaust sounds bad ass and I'd love to have purchased a valvetronic one when I got mine. The ability to change the loudness is a wonderful idea. Cheers!
Thanks for the comments and suggestions!! I’ll tell Mario about your suggestions. I’ve heard of the new engine mount options but I haven’t researched them yet. I’ll check them out! Cheers! Happy new year to you.

Well you guys are not going to like this.. I personally have to agree with Micheal the stock exhaust sound way better.. just me. Great video.
No worries, my car has the stock! 😆🤷♂️ Thanks for watching and commenting Roy!
The Porsche PSE would have made a big difference here and sounded more Porsche than the SOUL

You have the OEM PSE? Very nice! I was looking at a 991.1 with that option on it recently. Sounds really nice!
Auto Amateur go with 997.2 is much better, honestly 991.1 is a big car, with electric wheel steering.

They were actually, from what I remember. I think the tires on his 997 were much wider than mine.
Want refinement? Buy a Porsche. Want sound? Buy an F-Type R or SVR.
What does Rio GM stand for?
Late to party but stock is best. Sounds more Porsche. Sorry, soul is nice but it slightly overshadowed the Porsche sound in my opinion.
