Hello Igor, thank you for sharing this wonderful video. I used to play this opening but only had about 50% success. I am 1560 elo so not great. I have a better grasp of it now thank you. I have a question at about 18 minutes 27 secs. at the point where you have played Bg5 for white. Like i said I am only 1560 so I could be wrong. You don't need the Bishop move because you have QxN on d5 anyway. You cant take with the pawn because of the pin, and if you take with the Queen. The you have a family fork as we say in the UK.Nc7+ is forking King, Queen and Rook. Thank again
well it doesn't work because when you fork the king and the queen the king can slide to d8 while getting out of the pin and after you take the queen black is up 2 pawns which is not what you want.
Hi Igor, thanks for the videos. But in case of this one I´m afraid you gameplan only works if black doesn`t castle on move 11, which is obviously the most played move. Nice approach anyway.
At 18:40 firstly I saw 14. Rc1 which is winning but not as good as 14. QxN leading either to checkmate after 14... QxQ Nc7## if black decides he wants the Queen :)) or to an overwhelming position for white.
No, but maybe pawn to d6 would since it'd give the king an escape. That would prevent an immediate checkmate. Qxf7 wouldn't be stopped by moving the g6 pawn.
I ALREADY play smith morra and tried to book up on it, but the DOZENS of paulse, kan, pin etc. formation transpositions made my head hurt so I never even finished my book. I'm hoping this video gives me new insights like the recently learned "play king's gambit style Qb3 behind Bc4 when black plays e5" and have destroyed both of my opponents in THAT LINE. if THIS video does for my smith morra what your *AWESOME* hartlaub/charlick gambit video did for my slav/stonewall woes with an completely understandable system i'm waxing opponents 2:1 with at the 1700 level! if this can improve my smith morra results, there should be some ratings points improvement in it. maybe I'll learn more about the FUNDAMENTALS that trying to memorize 400 lines of theory
what a wonderful gambit.Absolutely loved it sir.will surely try it out in my games.I am Already winning a lot of games after watching your videos on the ICELANDIC & PORTUGESE variation against 1.e4. Thank u again sir u are the best .
Ive been playing the danish gambit and a gambit variation in the Scandinavian defense ( also the Smith morra) and in all of these accepting the gambit walks right in to my plan, however I do have things prepared for if they don't accept
The move after black moves b6 is 1. Qxd5 Qxd5 2. Nc7+ forking the king queen and rook. That's great but that b6 move? Black should have played h6 or possibly f6 but I like h6 better. Then the exchange would be even.
Yeah, this whole video is a very convenient variation for white. Lots of videos in this channel follow the same pattern. I play in the 2200-2400 range on lichess. Cheap traps are much harder to execute at this level because most players at this level already know them.
at 18:55 black is not obliged to play Bb7, yet can opt for 7...Nc6, let us say white castles, then we have Nge7, and they have nothing to play for except e5, to which we reply Ng6 they play e5 or no plan and long term advatange belongs to black
I am not a GM (chess24 rating around 2200) but I did not lose a single game when I have played against Smith Mora gambit for 25 years (usually against e4, I am playing Sicilian or Caro kann), so for me, this is bad opening for white!
gambits rely on the other guy making mistakes. Stockfish will castle before making any attacks as black. Then Stockfish will just grind white to a draw or win by trading off trying take advantage of its pawn advatange.
Ken Smith who routinely played this gambit did quite well against average players then lost consistently against the best grandmasters who accepted the gambit and won with the extra pawn.

It's because of the bishop taking f7 tactic. You lose the queen either way 👍

The solution: Qxd5 wins a knight for free, the pawn cannot take because of the pin by Re1, and if Qxd5 takes back, Nc7# finishes the game.
