There is no shortage of chess content, in all styles. But i can confidently say this is one of the best videos on actual practical chess, instead of memorising openings and hoping for tactics.
IM Jeremy Silman! I found your book How to Reassess Your Chess in a public library in January 2019 when I first began studying chess seriously for the first time. As a ~800 rated player at that time, it was, of course, way over my head, so I picked up The Amateur's Mind a couple of months later. Reading that (and later your Endgames book and Reassess Your Chess) have been the keys to me improving and continuing to deepend my love of the game. The Imbalances are how I approach every game. I am now rated 1560 and still reference your books all the time. Thank you so much !!! I recommend yoymur books to everyone who wants to improve their chess. I consider you one of my greatest teachers! 🙏
@@hylandmarkle4050 thanks for you comment.. I hope IM Silman could read this 🙏🙏🙏 he left us in 2023 ✌️💯 we miss him!! i also read his books and i have old tips of him and some great GMs 🙏 continue brother
Absolutely! There is an over emphasis on tactics and calculation. Its hard to calculate when we don't know what we're looking for. This is why so many players get stuck in the sub 2k range.
What a magnificent analogy of driving the car aimlessly to analysing a chess situation I give here he gives there..rather than methodically analysing the imbalances and give your best possible move..makes life so easier to drive your chess car..thank you so much for your beautiful teaching..really felt sad knowing he is not here with us anymore to teach some valuable insights like this!!!!
Definitely a solid video! I never understood what RUclips masters logic behind a plan they would show us with their arrows until now! I appreciate you making this video, I’m still new to chess, I have a solid understanding of my opening and most players opening moves, but once we get to move 10-20 I start to see my positional start to fade where I’m losing and then I end up blunder and hanging pieces. So, I’ll for sure try your approach with having a plan knowing what the pieces do best to keep pushing towards more winning positions.
I'm currently at an understanding that positional play is like a game of tug of war. No matter how dominate your position is, just one mistake can bring the position back to equal. It is a very brutal experience. This is where imbalances can really start to shine. As you eliminate the back and forth to create what I believe is referred to as a 2 result situation. Meaning that you can only win or draw. The possibility of losing is nonexistent unless you blunder.
As soon has he talked about mending the skeletton, I knew that Rd4 was the right move, even before he said it. It's the only move that repairs the skeleton, pushed the knight backwards and tries to fight for something. Giving up material for dynamics and counter play chances when you're losing strategically is the best way to make a comeback
that's not Jeremy's channel..Mr. Silman died already years ago. Too bad though. Btw it's nice to see his lectures he was giving, while he was still with us...thanks for sharing!
This is a very rare channel!. Looks like imbalances is the secret to planning, which is always in the heads of a strong chess player(IM/GM) , but never got exposed for learners as 'imbalances'. There are tons of articles/books/videos on chess theory today. But looks like 'Imbalances' were not in focus by the author(obviously all the imbalances were spread throughout the book with games, but applying those techniques was always challenging for learners. ). But the theory of 'imbalances ' is the one which forces the learner to form an 'algorithmic' way of thinking in chess. Or perhaps how to evaluate the City Architecture like an expert.
18:43 To open the white rook file on the king side, why not move pawn to f4, (hoping the black pawn will take it)? I am not an advanced player, but I like opening up a rook file with the castled king.
Move 31 f4 is that you suggested? i don t think it s safe coz it risked to open position and black have 2 bishop and a d passed pawn.. And your goal to open the f file for the rook is not be done after exchanging exf5 and bishop takes f5.. it s not a mistake but in my opinion not the best way to go
😀Thank You for the lesson ,it s wery cool. I bought two books from you, translated into German ( Silman s complete Endgame course and How to reassess your chess 4 ) . Waht do You suggest? I work on the books at the sametime or separately ? Thx for an answer . thx
