    Honestly this is one of the most active Grappling channels on RUclips that is helping me and my guys in getting better in our NoGi and submission wrestling type grappling which isn't based upon very specific guards like the rubber, De la Riva or something else. Although I'd love to see more NoGi application in like De La Riva, Barembolo, X, Spider, Butterfly, Turtle almost anything. This channel has helped me dearly as a White doing BJJ for about 6 months I truly am grateful to you guys.

    you rock Coach Brian! You are my favorite teacher online. Im a four stripe white belt who shattered his arm in my last grappling industries tournament. Im on the sidelines for another month and your videos have been great. we are studying this north south stuff tonight at st Paul bjj academy in Minnesota. I can't wait to try it out in a month or so when I get back to drilling. thank you!

    Good stuff. I remember being a white belt(bad ass blue belt now) just grabbing stuff, whatever I could and occasionally stuff would work. Whether it had been done before or not, who ever knew. I still do it today when nothing comes to mind.
    Was doing a step over Kimura and partner passed his arm(left) past my body towards his head, and using my right, hard to picture but I had to really twist, over hooked his wrist, came back under tricep making a modified Americana, lifted his arm so he couldn't squirm out and tap. I'm sure it's a regular less used moved, maybe catch wrestling but to me it came from my master mind lol.

    I honestly think If they say that it takes no technique! to me most things that actually work really really well seem to take no technique! It just works always!!
    It’s like someone teaching throws, sometimes the ugliest looking throws the most effective because it works!

    I saw Jeff monson showing his north south choke , he puts his hand under your shoulder before setting up the choke , which makes it hard to do the variations of escape , very interesting how technics can be master and perfected and variations 😀

    Is that kev or randy orton?

  • @edpho4779
    @edpho4779 5 лет назад

    I don’t know, seems to me that the guy applying the north south choke has a time advantage by starting the choke first, so commun sense tells me that the guy on the bottom should pass out first. So either the rear naked grip is stronger than the north south choke or the guy on the bottom had stronger squeeze.

    • @TeachMeGrappling
      @TeachMeGrappling  5 лет назад

      All I can say is, try it for yourself. I would never thought it would work until I witnessed it in a real match. My feelings are that the rnc grip just works faster. Of course part of your success is catching your opponent off guard. I use the Ezekiel variation but I have had a couple big guys get good at this one.

      If the guy on top knows what he's doing with North South, this will be very hard, North South is my bread and butter everything in this video is easily countered by some head movement or just a transition to Kimura for a temporary threaten then a reposition into a stronger North South.

    Any headlock escape that involves just trying to pull your head out is no good, there has to be a better way

    • @VeganHusky
      @VeganHusky 6 лет назад

      3:10 would be tough for me, its just a weak position for me to me in, too much bench no rowing lol
      just wondering on different ways to open that arm up :-)

    • @TeachMeGrappling
      @TeachMeGrappling  6 лет назад +1

      I don’t understand you. What is hard about 3:10??? You frame the neck and get your head out and replace guard.

    • @VeganHusky
      @VeganHusky 6 лет назад +1

      well common bro I'm a white belt iv never even been in this position yet lol
      last class we were standing headlock escapes and my lower back was jacked for a few days.
      your work is awsome man I honestly don't mean to criticize, just remember the position of ignorance from witch I speak lol

    • @TeachMeGrappling
      @TeachMeGrappling  6 лет назад +1

      I hear you. Listen... a lot that you see won’t always makes sense and sometimes when it does make sense in your mind, it doesn’t in reality. This is the way it is for beginners. Trust me, learning how to frame the neck away will get you out of a lot of headlocks. It is that simple.
