Thanks for the breakdown of the N-S choke! Nearly every North-South Choke tutorial out there starts from reverse Kesa Gatame or Sidecontrol, but sometimes the opportunity arises after we get into position.
Got this position a couple of days ago and the guy did exactly you said (moved his head to the side), had to modify the normal North South with a punch choke from the same position, worked wonders (as long as you don't leave the NS position). Highly recommend this little mod. if the guy is seeing the choke coming, is a bit sneaky. Solid info man, great vids.
Tha ms for the subs for this position. I find myself there and like you said. Move past cause I don’t know what to do. That pendulum leg movement has been very helpful already. Thanks Eli.
Good techniques - I get there a lot on top, but absolutely hate being on bottom in NS - swinging those legs/hips is effective from other positions as well, but the legs are completely free in NS bottom so that makes perfect sense.
It is 23.00 here in my country. I shall sleep by now. But new video from Knight arrives. Gotta watch it now. Edited : Thank you for the tips. Gotta test it sooner.
One of the things I like most about this channel is that it's nearly all no-gi. Using the gi for holds and submissions seems like a crutch to me, and it's less applicable to a street fight. Along those lines, I prefer techniques that don't rely on mats. The escapes in this video seem to benefit quite a bit from the low friction on smooth mats. I'm not sure that translates well to a rough surface. Different BJJ practitioners have different interests and priorities. Just sharing mine as feedback on the stuff I especially appreciate from this channel, which has great, clear, concise content.
240 lb - 4xStripe white belt here. Nth/Sth is my go-to. Please *stop* showing escapes from this position. ( joking oKay?) My experience actually is that most people suck at ‘getting out’ of here. means I get little time defending against escapes. Being a beginner, I do struggle to ‘get the choke’. Just as you described, I hold them down, I crank = it is indeed miserable for them, but they can choose to just bear it. Will try your suggestions. much respect
Jeff Monson keeps their face up by flopping his hip So slip one hand under, flop hip and use that to lift the head up, stack your wrists underneath hands facing inside, and crawl back
I really appreciate your content. Have you guys considered getting a better mic? It's often a little difficult to hear you clearly. (The mats absorb sound and the mic seems far from the host.)
In MMA we often see rear naked chokes, guillotine chokes, arm triangle chokes, leg triangle chokes, D'Arce. But not many north-south chokes in UFC. Why is that? Thank you.
It isn’t seen much these days. Rachel Ostovich had a great escape vs one in the most recent UFC at the time I’m writing this. Also, watch some vintage Jeff Monson, who had at least a couple of successful north south finishes.
How to escape, Me ihave an other tec if you are in street fight how doyoudo grape his hair and up hisface and with other hand put him the punchs in his face😁 if hehas no hair gap his ear hardly and punch with other hand if heturn his face swit the hands😀
Your videos are: “ Top Notch”!
Another great video. This is a fantastic channel!

Thanks for visiting Jared. Shout out to IQ Jujitsu.
Oss....I love this style of coaching. Thank you so much professors, will apply this in class tonight.
Thank you very much! I have problems with this north-south choke, especially with heavier guys. Appreciate your lesson!
Thank you so much! I needed this!

Very Good teacher ,pósition of the attack e defense are more useful in my play ! Oss
Quote of the day: "Sports bra for your nether region" LOL.
Good information on those techniques, as usual.
I felt it was an appropriate description 🤣

As you anounnced north south choke)). Thanks for instruction videos, prof.
Also, Eli, what is your opinion about rubber guard position?
I absolutely love Rubber Guard and think it is underutilized in MMA.
@@KnightJiuJitsu waiting new vids with this position))
hahahhaa the explanations are crazy
Macklemore is so good at teaching juju.
Are there adaptations from BJJ to Catch Wrestling techniques vice versa in regards to North South position? (I recognize it's a very broad question)
I’m not really sure. There are a lot of blurred lines between the two. And there are also a lot of techniques found in both styles.

MrCloudseeker yeah he’s who popularized it in the UFC. There’s video somewhere of Dana saying what is that? When he finished w it
Armbar isn’t really a N/S attack as much as a transition from N/S to a far-side arm bar, no?!?!
Nice 👍🖒🖒🖒✊✋

Definitely on my list of upgrades. 👍

None of this makes sense.
English is my second language also, but I’m pretty sure this guy had a stroke.
