Your videos have been the single most valuable resource on youtube for me, ever! I may be a meager one stripe white belt, but thanks to you, I'm no longer just trying to survive, but I'm also hitting submissions every now and then!
Thank, you! I find myself in side control all the time because I’m a white belt and smaller than most everyone in my gym. I’m gonna try these out on Monday!
Yo man I love your vids. I watch a few different tutorial channels for self defense and martial arts and your channel is one of the very best on youtube. These tutorials are very informative and detailed and allow me to continue my studies in the art of self defense in my own time between training. Thank you so much and please keep making these videos.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment. Things like this motivate me so much to keep making videos and it makes me happy to know I could help anyone. I really appreciate it.
@Knight Jiu-Jitsu i'm a white belt and your knowledge has helped me become exceptionally better at BJJ, I can't thank you enough. Also chess is awesome!
Brand new white belt. And I needed this vid. I feel like my biggest weakness is bottom side control currently. I will def be practicing these a lot due to the fact I always am in this situation haha.
Just a bit of advance encouragement, in case you need it at some point: Don't be discouraged. Guys will continue to modulate their game to keep up with yours, so you'll just keep tapping. Stick with it and just work on taking longer to tap. Before you know it, you'll be stringing things together. Just keep at it.
@@ncooty appreciate it. I went in knowing I would be getting smashed for a while. There is one day where I thought I was going to give up. But I can find small victories in my game every day. Escapes and even some passes. Loving it so far.
@@kuhlbeans: I remember being very discouraged early on, because nothing I tried worked. It took me a while to realize things were "working" in as much as I was making other guys have to work harder. (I was in a gym full of colored belts.) I also got discouraged because I couldn't think fast enough to string things together, so I'd half escape only to get smashed again. I'm sure I'm projecting, and you're cruising along, but I know how much I valued knowing that other people struggled as well. Of course, if you have the luxury of rolling with new white belts, you'll see your progress regularly. :) Either way, I hope you get from it at least half of what I've gotten from it, and that you have the privilege of passing it on.
One month in, i can deal with the being exhausted but as a 6’ 170 pound guy, having these big dudes crush me in bottom side control is my biggest fear. Idk if im claustrophobic but it’s one of my most glaring weaknesses rn
@@user-fw8wt4qo3o I’ve been going consistently sense I’ve commented. I’m now a 1 stripe blue belt. My biggest advice is avoid side control. I know that it’s easier said than done. If I know I’m going to get passed. I’ll turtle and attempt a grambi roll or to Face my partner right away. Side control is a pain for sure. If you are in it stay calm and find an opening they will go for something and that’s when you can escape. Hope this helps.
I damn what am I missing my time on the tatami. Hopefully this COVID lockdown will end soon, not allowed rolling since October 2020..but till then, you’re my hero ! Thnx for the great instructions. And I love the solo drills!
Xic. Bakana demais !!! Sempre muito bom e relembra também algumas pegadas pra saída. Tmj !!! Venha ao Brasil quando puder. Irei no seu seminário. Oss !!!
I think for most of the time, if you are down in side control, you can start with buggy choke if the situation is too tight. After that to resist he has to move back and give you space. Works great
I always get stuck after I reinsert the knee and they push it back out just like you described - it never occurred to me to scoop their arm. 🤯 Also, some partners kill my efforts to reguard by sprawling their south hip, and it’s good to know that’s a perfect time to capture their leg with a kosoto hook and sweep them. 🤯 It’s like you know what problems people commonly have.
I like how you set up get up escape when the opponent transitions to hybrid side control. I will be looking for the opportunity next time I'm being smashed.
4:16 if he tries to base out with his right hand before you initiate the scoot under, is it best to release the grip on the armpit and push his base hand away so he collapses? or just underhook/trap the right arm and pull it out of the way?
Thank you so much! I’m a 15 year old girl and a very new white belt. This will hopefully help me not get crushed in side control by 200lb men. If I remember it at least :)
I go back and watch this from time to time as I struggle with heavy side control escapes. I noticed the blue (instead of red) panel on the belt. Interesting. Can you educate me as to this significance?
Can you make a video of a bunch of techniques everyone would know for a real fight. Because I know some jiu jitsu techniques are more for sport jiu jitsu and rolling than actual life and death
I have quite a lot of self defense videos on my channel and instructionals for sale on the topic. But you’re right that it would make for a good RUclips video on common self defense moves one needs to know. I’ll see what I can do.
i was literally jus learning ab how to get out of side control and I was wondering if there were more ways to get out then this pops up on my recommended...
I just started jiu jitsu like 5 moths ago and had my first tournament on the 13of march it was pretty fun I'm 10 and a girl and I got first and second place
Can’t wait to roll! And fail at executing this 😆
Vaccine can’t come quickly enough. I’m hoping to only lose a year.
I memorize the escapes and when I try is miserable hahaha
🤣
😂😂😂
Very well put.
This isn't gold. It's diamond knowledge.
🙏🙏🙏
When it comes to jiu jitsu, you are my favorite instructor!
I really appreciate that a lot.
The fundamentals are still relative. Many thanks as usual! Man, so many good details here that I forget about when drilling.

I was just getting crushed with heavy side control yesterday. This is awesome!
Very good detail when they pin your hip tight in the first move.
tHanks for sharing this I was having problem with Ben trapped in side control. This will help
This info it GOLD! Thanks for taking the time to share your wisdom.
Great video! The explanations are very clear and the techniques are solid.

I appreciate that so much
Thank you, K.
Amazing video, its so helpful that you went through all the different scenarios. Thank you!
As usual, you know “how” to connect even if it seems old or redundant.
Love the fundamentals...I’m ok with one of those methods..will work on the other two
Sensei Knight - Thank you, this is an awesome video, and I can't wait until I can try these moves on my fellow students. Cheers.

If there is one part of Jiu-Jitsu I'm really good at, its getting stuck in a disgusting side control under a 100kg blue belt.
this is amazing! thanks for another great video, cant wait to try these out.
Looking forward to having you back out for a seminar again either later this year or next!

Great technic

I am a black belt under Royce Gracie, and he uses the blue sleeve instead of the red on his black belts.
@@KnightJiuJitsu Thank you. This would limit the number of venders you are able to buy a new belt from, but I like the look.
Awesome 👊😃

For all of you out there who, like myself, truly appreciate Eli Knight, I think you would also value Brian Glick’s new channel 👍🏻👍🏻
This video is incredibly concise and useful as a new white belt
Another great video! My game can only go up
Woah 🤯🤯🤯 that's genius dude. How do you come up with these?
I learned from the best instructors in the world and practiced until it felt right and I understood how to make it work.
Would it make sense to lock down the opps leg after bridging and moving your legs in?
Sometimes it would for sure. Not always, but case dependent.
can't wait to try it out. Great instruction. 🏆👍🏻

This guy I’m demonstrating on is way stronger and heavier than me. And if he were even bigger, I wouldn’t change the techniques

When you had his arm are you able to do a kamora. Or will that not work?

Great 👏🖒👍🖒👌
KNIGHT Jiu Jitsu !
I use the 1st alot
Is any of this even possible if the side control is truly heavy?
I don’t show things that don’t work. A quick search will show all of these working successfully in tons of competitions over the years.
