Man I watched this video prior to training tonight. Low and behold I got stuck in North South but I completely forgot the swing to the side. I'm going to drill the fudge out of this now lol. Thanks for the vid mate.
I know north south and I do it sometimes but recently I been getting stuck in them and getting tapped so this helped a lot on getting out. I'm a one stripe white belt so I'm trying to learn more escapes from more positions I start to learn
This is so helpful. I’m a 3-stripe white belt who had the fortunate pleasure of sparring with a black belt professor from an affiliated school. He got me into North South, and I had the good sense to hug him so he couldn’t complete the choke. But then I was stuck. This video would have been so helpful getting out of that mess. I ended up having to do an ugly kind of bench press of his chest, which gave me just enough space to fight out of it. But he had me pinned for an uncomfortably long time. Thanks for this video!
Great video guys, I do find myself in that position ocasionally, however, did not come up with this solution. I'll definitely try it out. I've mostly been experimenting with trying to get my partner into a variation of a triangle (is it called reverse triangle? Idk, white belt speaking hehe). So, basically, I have had success with guys of my or lower level, but mostly in locking the triangle, without managing to finish it tho because of the whole reverse thing... So, do you have any tips on doing triangles from north-south? Such as how to isolate one arm, hooking a leg to prevent escape or get the feel of different side when cutting angle? Maybe so It'd work even against those who are above my skill haha with them, it usually ends up with me tapping to an armbar or a d'arce after my failed attempt 😁 Thanks in advance, love you guys
I have a question, how do you notice progression in BJJ? I'm a white belt that just started about 2 months ago and I've definitely noticed that I've gotten better since I started but how can I tell that I'm improving at the stuff that I've learned? (I commented this on the podcast but wanted to be sure to saw it)
Progress in Jiu-Jitsu is unmistakable. Things that didn't used to work will suddenly start working like magic, and your stamina when rolling will increase, as well as how long it takes everyone to tap you. You'll probably notice your fitness improving before you notice any other changes. It's not linear progression, it's more ebb and flow, where you feel great some days and horrible other days.
Thank You so much, that was so well illustrated,...I wish we could deal with Washington D.C. the same way!,...lol,...I'm in San Diego, wish i could learn from you guys!
Hey Cherie, next week I am going to be starting bjj for the first time with a friend and I’ve been upsessed with all your videos for a few months now, aside from frequently wrestling with friends I’ve never actually done a combat sport. My question is, what is the “ideal” build for bjj? I’m 17 years old and I’m 6’1 130lbs, I was constantly told I couldn’t wrestle because I “didn’t have the build” but I’ve always wanted to. Basically what I’m asking is how important is your body type for bjj? Thanks! Edit: I meant chewie not cherie
BJJ can be used to favor any build. I've seen people of all shapes and sizes do really well. Long limbed people have an advantage in some areas. But shorter stocky guys can flourish as well.
For that voice, 1 head of garlic, peel it, put them in the a dark bottle with drinkable 96° alcohol in a dark place for a month. Drink 10 - 20 drops in half a glass of water before meals. If no potable alcohol is available you can use vodka
Keep your elbows tucked into their knees and prevent them from getting high mount, because you're screwed once they get there. There are certain things you can't escape, and must therefore prevent ahead of time.
If you're talking about the full mount... In my experience, I used the Trap and Roll. Too lengthy for me to care to write. Your instructor should know exactly what I'm talking about.
I have a question. I'm really considering starting bjj. And I've found what seems to be a good place to go. I would like to go in and introduce myself and ask about prices and other questions but I don't want to interrupt the class. It starts a 7pm should I head in a half hour early? I really don't want to call either. Ps You make great videos! Also that was so damn funny what Adam did lmao!
Yeah it's a business. Go in and chat. Although, I wouldn't make a judgement about price until after you train. Yes, it's going to be more expensive than a box gym. But you're not playing in a sandbox. You're learning from a coach.
I've got a question, Chewy. I have a background in a fair number of martial arts, but am relatively new to BJJ. I think, due to training in other martial arts, I have a mental block while rolling. I've been trained to pull my techniques while sparring, so when I'm rolling, I find myself unintentionally not pushing hard enough. When I should be really heavy on top of someone, I hold a lot of my own weight with my arms or position myself such that my weight is not on them. When I should be really driving into someone to cause discomfort, I'm pulling back to purposely *not* cause them discomfort. As you can imagine, this makes me really bad when I'm rolling with folks. Any idea how to break through this mental block?
Adam ready as all hell 😂
The war jazz hands!
Adam is my favorite. He’s so wise.
Why the heck is this man adam standing like that at the beggining😂
Because he’s amazing
Man looking like an avenger
I was thinking the same thing
When you’re awesome u do whatever the fuck u wanna do😂
“this man”… you misstyped “The Man”, and you do not question Adam!
This video was very helpful, I get totally lost when in the north-south position.
Kong same

You just know that Adam’s story would make a great movie.
Is your glamorous assistant, Mr Adam Wilson, sponsored by Tatami? If not, he should be!

Thank you Chewie! Great video 👍
When you swung out of it it seemed like you ended up with the north/south choke position. Very cool.
Awesome examples! I will try this tomorrow :-D

Why does Adam stare into our souls?
Because that's what Adam does.
To condition our mental toughness.

That zero pressure north south is completely different from the 150kg spazzy white belt
Adam
Please do with a Gi!

Do u have a couple of answers for being stuck under high mount
Keep your elbows tucked into their knees and prevent them from getting high mount, because you're screwed once they get there. There are certain things you can't escape, and must therefore prevent ahead of time.

Muy bonito
What's that sweep called used in the second escape?
Hey chewy can you use the same move if the opponent has you in a seat belt hold north and south?
Why is your sidekick squaring up during the whole intro 😂
Hey Chewie, thanks for the video. Just wondering, do you have any good n/s escapes that work on higher belts? :)
These work on higher belts. The moves don't always have to change. It's about the way you use them.
Adam.
How do we buy a chewjitsu rash guard

I did this wrong and took their back, he was more confused than I was
How are the new mats working out?
Mat burn all day
