It’s not just “change” itself that the locals are resisting, it’s the added traffic, insane prices, increasing crime… Where have we witnessed these changes before and has it boded well/worse for similar “small” towns (like Portland)?
I'm from San Francisco, live in Seattle now, and used to LOVE Portland! They are all now distroyed because they all highly enable the homeless. They provide 3 meals a day, drugs like methadone for free, food stamps, needles, tents, cell phones, and on and on. When theft and hard drugs in any amount became legal in all three places during covid I witnessed all these once gorgeous cities become unsafe slums. You cant go anywhere without seeing theft and open drug use. Prostitutes half naked. People coming into stores, and working in stores that are so high that they cant articulate what they need or want from you.
cold and grey weather isn't necessarily depressing. it can be calm and restorative. people are less active. there's less noise. it can be a time to slow down, rest, relax and recover
Great video! For those of us who love our winters here in CDA, definitely NOT grey and depressing! What has become depressing is the late summer! The smoke in the air is so heavy that you can chew on at times (all the fires from California up to Canada funnel right in here). Not good for anyone who suffers from asthma to be here during the summer. As for the change & growth, yes a hard pill to swallow! However, we must remember that it is happening all over, and not just here. The only thing that can be done about it, is to push for BALANCE! Grab ahold of what makes this place so special, and protect it from disappearing!
Thank you! Fire season has changed summer all across the west, making it extremely difficult for a lot of people. I couldn't agree more, balance and protection, there is a reason so many love the area, protected and keep it special!
I lived on 12th and worked at Bardenays in Riverstone for many years. I remember going to work at 3:30 in the fog, after waking up to a foggy morning, and by 4:00pm the sun was setting... sometimes with beautiful color in the sky that would last 15 minutes and complete darkness at 4:30. That to me is depressing. I can see the magic of the city now that I don't live there. There were the occasional clear days, but not that many! Just my experience of many years! cheers!
I don't know if I added a comment yet. I love the presentation of your video of my home town. I grew up in CDA. The only rule was to be home before the streetlights came on. We could ride our bikes to the city park. To me this city was very majikal. It was and still is my home town. Every now and then I would dream about going home ( home being 807 N. 2nd St.) but as I was making my way there I noticed new stuff was there and my old haunts were gone, like Taco Johns, Rathskellers, the Corner Pocket, and the old mill by NIC. Even NIC was changed. Not the same. So many more new condos, apartments around down town. Tubbs hill is still semi the same. The park is the same ( the city park that is). I don't know if you all recall Play land Pier but that is gone. Was blessed to be there when I did. Was a time when water was free. I watched them, yes "them" put the water meter attached to our house. Culture shock! Again thank you for posting this wonderful video.
We will hunker down on snow days, order door dash or rummage around in the fridge. It used to be much smaller, but always and still beautiful. Lots to do.
I live here in north idaho and I find the winter beautiful and not depressing at all. I love to ski and snow shoe. The only thing that would be depressing would be if folks brought there leftist politics and ideology here and ruined it like other Democrat run cities. Hope that doesn’t happen. Ever...
I lived in Worley and it was fine, Liberty lake & post falls were fine, but when I got into CDA the fog lingered all winter 🤣I remember driving to work in Riverstone at 3:30-4:00pm and it would be grey fog until 4:30 at sunset and then just a splash of color for 5 minutes and that was it... I found that to be depressing...
@@wollertz I get that. To many gray fog day’s could do that. I’m retired so a trip to somewhere tropical like Roatan for a few weeks can cure those blues!
I don’t remember the winters there being particularly “ magical.”. We all had to drive to the mill for work and ride the bus over Mica Hill for school on the icy roads. Mud and slush that lasted until March. Unreliable electrical service where we lived at Rockford Bay would go out, sometimes for days. 24 degrees below zero on one occasion. Cool if you are retired I guess. Came there in 1953, had a successful marina and store that contained a post office. Mom was the postmaster. Sold it in 1965. Where I live now, we’ve never had to await the sun plow or shovel sun so we could try to get to town. Watch out for the wintertime sun drifts.😊
I love winter. This summer here has been brutal. I could hardly take my dog for his regular walkies. This week is supposed to be the ending of the heat wave that has lasted 3 months consistently. Looking forward to cool days.
🤣 Its all 1 beg city now, roundabouts on Seltice, crazy traffic on I-90, and the farmland is making way for residential communities. It's changed a little...

Once you get more rich pompous people to move there it will change things greatly. Be prepared what this “change” brings. It will bring negativity. It will bring positivity as well.
I’d love to live their but as a senior on a fixed income, could only afford a large studio or granny pod in a backyard for me and my two non barking small rescues. I love the values there. I am very conservative, pro 2A, pro Constitution. I love the cold and snow!

Living in the winter up north is anything but depressing. You can snowmobile all winter long!! It’s the most fun you could ever have on earth. Summer is boring compared to snowmobiling all winter long.
The only thing depressing is your attempt at understanding true natural beauty. Not sure where you’re from, but it’s surely not CDA. I wish you better luck elsewhere.

Prices have definitely come up significantly in CDA, but there are still areas around this city that haven't boomed yet!
Lots of room here for more realtors. We need way more in the area to deal with the growth.
