Dr. Dre is the producer who first signed Eminem. He had listened to one of Em's earlier CDs and invited him over to his studio (not knowing he was white). They clicked as soon as they got into the studio together. In fact, Em's breakout song "My Name Is" was recorded the first time they met. Dre put on a beat and Eminem just started rapping to it. There was a lot of pushback from the label and every one around Dre because Eminem was this white boy who was saying some ridiculous controversial shit, and no one thought he would be good for business. But Dre decided to ignore them and signed Eminem regardless, and the rest was history.

This was his first solo release since 'The Mashall Matters Lp' which was released in 2000. The album 'The Marshal Matters Lp' received a LOT of backlash from a lot of people as it was one of the most offensive and edgy albums ever released. The entire video and lyric its a respond to all the people to try to cancel him beacuse of his lyrics ("Everybody only wants to discuss me
so this must mean I'm disgusting But it's just me, I'm just obscene") and the controversy that he represented those times and still represent now, that stupid thing that "white people can't rap or be part of hip hop culture". You're going to find a lot of reference of Elvies Presley in other songs cuz Em and Elvis blew up a music gender that traditionally belong to black people. So he's saying "why you all criticis me for be a white guy rapping and nobody say a shit about Elvies?"

@@GiddyKitty To put a bit more clarity into this - Dre is one of the most influential rappers and producers of all times. He started the group N.W.A. alongside Eazy E, Ice Cube, M.C. Ren, Doc and DJ Yella. He produced and influenced the careers of 2Pac and Snoop Dogg, signed Eminem when no one else wanted to touch him (mainly because of his lyrics and skin colour) and in fact at the time of signing him Interscope (his label) was not doing well and Eminem is the one who helped really get it running. The story of these two is inspiring, there isn't an album in which Eminem does not mention Dre's name and there are many instances where he says he would be nowhere without him and that he cannot ever repay him (example I need a doctor with Skylar Grey).

If you want any more suggestions there is lot of songs by him and all are completely different. If you want more fun songs, you can check:
We made you, My name is, Real Slim Shady, Role model...
If you want something more emotional, there is still Mockingbird which I think is his most hardhitting one.
or Space bound, or obviously Stan, which made the word what it is right now
and if you want to check something different he even made some horror songs like:
3.a.m, Guilty conscience, Criminal, Kim, Bonnie and Clyde (which is second part to Kim)...

Hi, just came to tell you a few things. I stumbled upon your channel by accident, but I enjoyed your reactions and reviews of Eminem's songs. Throughout the past 2 decades he released a lot of good songs - musically, lyrically, emotionally or otherwise - and it is hard to recommend some without you knowing the others and personal context to them at the time of their release. Glad you have your own stans here dropping all the juicy info in the comments xd
I've probably listened to Eminem the most out of all the artists or bands I've ever listened to, especially as a teenager and YA, maybe second close would be Linkin Park (not sure how familiar with them you are, but they have some nice edgy songs, wouldn't mind listening to your take on them)
Anyway... I've just thought I should tell you I liked your videos. What I usually do, personally, when I'm faced with experiencing something new that is spanning multiple items within the confines of the medium, in this case multiple albums and songs within rap and hip hop genre, I go chronologically for simulating experience, basically sending myself back in time and going forward til the latest installment, understanding everything one step at a time... but I never expect anyone to try doing anything remotely similar. People don't have time for that now, too much things available and new things constantly being made... but that's beside the point. The point is - do not feel discouraged that you don't get some references or connections, either cultural or personal to Marshal's life, some are very obscure and not worth focusing on if you don't know, and those who do know will get them sure but it won't take away from your experience. You did not follow his life and career in 2000s or early 2010s.
I'm also not native English speaker, but actually Eminem is one of those artists that made me want to learn more and get better at understanding and communicating in English, and after painful years of learning, self-development, media exposure, and work standard I can actually think in English, not translate to and from English, but I'm still caught off guard sometimes and need to rewind or ask to repeat. 'Tis the life of non-native speaker xd
One last thing, this whole Eminem "trilogy" thing (Cleaning Out My Closet, Headlights, When I'm Gone) you went for... to be honest whether the song is Slim Shady's, Eminem's or Marshal's, it doesn't matter, they are all part of his journey, but you can try to divide it into thematic phases if it helps compartmentalizing his discography xd Few good ones you're still missing from the emotional theme is Lose Yourself (Oscar winner), Love The Way You Lie (with Rhianna), Not Afraid which I personally treat as the epilogue of his character development, where all the hardship and drama that he went through are resolved... You should listen to them even just in your free time if not for the video.
Okay, I know I said last thing last paragraph, and I could apologize for the lengthy comment or just remove the "One last thing" bit, but text is my preferred medium of communication, so how I wish I could say it - I type it in, no corrections.
The actual last last thing, if you think Without Me was hard to follow lyrics and music video, try Rap God and Godzilla. First is actually the world record for the most words in a hit single, second is the most words in 30 seconds.
Hope you keep exploring more and more of what Eminem has to offer :)

    YOU'RE breathtaking!! 😍
Between The Marshall Mathers LP and this record, The Eminem Show, Eminem did a film called 8 Mile that's semi-biographical. He took a break from being Slim Shady and became Jimmy "B-Rabbit" Smith, basically the film's version of Marshall Mathers. Em won an Oscar for the song Lose Yourself. "Shady's back" is a reference to him coming back to form as Slim Shady on a record. Dick Cheney was George W. Bush's vice president. The U.S. government had Eminem under investigation for a lot of his lyrics that they viewed as being a potential threat to the Bushs and the Cheneys. He was very hostile lyrically on other songs. You'll definitely understand that better on songs from The Marshall Mathers LP.
Before Eminem, only two other white rappers had really gotten a huge level of fame as solo artists: Vanilla Ice and Marky Mark (Wahlberg, the A-lister). Eminem was a game changer, and Dr. Dre took him under his wing. I should probably tell you about N.W.A. You can look up what the name means, but the members were Ice Cube, Easy-E, MC Ren, Arabian Prince, DJ Yella, and Dr. Dre. Ice Cube has become an acclaimed actor in films like 21 Jump Street, Friday, Anaconda, and Ride Along. Dr. Dre is pretty much the most prolific producer in hip-hop. N.W.A were the single most influential music group on the planet for promoting racial equality, and their record Straight Outta Compton is one of the greatest hip-hop albums of the 20th century. Dr. Dre risked a lot signing Eminem to Aftermath Entertainment in 1998, and it ended up being the best move of his career. A lot of racial borders in hip-hop were opened, and Eminem was the first white rapper that the community truly embraced. He also brought a lot of music fans who didn't necessarily like hip-hop into the fold and changed their taste entirely. It was a huge transition that has made hip-hop very inclusive.
Eminem was the face of MTV in the 2000s, pretty much. He's the best-selling rapper of all time, obviously. He was up there in stature with Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, and Christina Aguilera in terms of popularity. That's monumental, because most rappers had a really difficult time getting into the mainstream, but he's one of the greatest lyricists around and so versatile as an artist that he broke that ground. A pop-centric rapper from Detroit with southern roots and a lot of determination. The Eminem Show was a rare space between pill addictions. He sobered up for 8 Mile through this record, but by the next record Encore, he was back on valium, vicodin, and ambien, then methadone. He overdosed and had a seizure in 2007. This was Eminem in the classic era at arguably his least Slim Shady; goofy rather than erratically hostile.
Eminem's funny songs are incredible. Some of them cross extreme lines, but he was very comfortable doing that. They're harmless and prove Parental Advisory stickers are unnecessary. You're going to really like that later, I have a feeling. Then the sad songs and the inspiring songs will really round out your experience. I don't generally follow Eminem reactions, but I know you're going to have an incredible journey. You're the best, GK! 💙

Prince was actually a musician and in 1993 he literally changed his name into an unpronounceable symbol. His name was changed to a sort of like a cross with a circle on top and an arrow head at the bottom.. yeah it's weird as fck.. He changed his name bcs (I dont really know about the details tho but pretty sure there are articles on this one) he had a "battle" with his label back then.
    (edit)
I tried to copy the symbol from wikipedia but this is literally what comes out :
Logo. Hollow circle above downward arrow crossed with a curlicued horn-shaped symbol and then a short bar

During that time ppl were saying that kids are buying his CD's and listening to content that should be only for mature audience. So this video is Eminem's way of sarcastically saying "so should I dress up as a super hero and stop every kid from listening to my songs?" The album cover says explicit content so it's their parents job to monitor them not his.

I am a huge Eminem fan and have been for years. This song isn't one of my favorites (maybe because I have heard it so many times on radio back when it was released), but wow, seeing the lyrics laid out like this.... the rhyme schemes and word play are incredible. GOAT

EMINEM came up and there was this artist Benzino who also owned a magazine called The Source which anyone who is anyone in Hip-Hop was in. EMINEM passed by him on his way to do a show and he took it as an insult. The guys of Limp Bizkit were supposed to be on a song with EMINEM dissing him, instead they went back on it and dissed EM so he made a song called Girls to diss Limp Bizkit and it actually explains the story more in depth.

Ms. Chaney was the Vice Pres wife, FCC tried to censor him. They came down hard on platforms like MTV and that's why Em brings attention to the parental advisory stamp at the end. He's basically saying if your kids are listening to me that's on you, I'm following the rules.

Oh you've never heard of Dr Dre? He's a rapper and rap producer and he discovered Eminem, he gave him his first opportunity. He is a rap legend, one of the most known name. He discovered Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, The Game, Xzibit,... on top of being a great rapper with great iconic songs. You've probably heard bits of The Next Episode (super super known), or possibily Still Dre (insane beat on that one). He also had some songs with Eminem, like Forgot About Dre.

Just wanna say...you're in for one hell of a rollercoaster with Em's music. My one reccommendation is gonna be one of his most inspirational songs for me and that's...Eminem - Not Afraid.

From this record, there are two songs I'd suggest:
    Hailie's Song
A ballad for Eminem's daughter. Eminem sings a lot, with a rap verse at the end. The explicit version is the way to go for as many of the lyrics as possible. There's one part that's censored even then, because one subject was touchy for a lot of people. Not horrific, but touchy. It will make sense when you hear the song.
    'Till I Collapse
Generally considered one of the best Eminem songs in terms of rap flow. VERY inspiring. Beautiful instrumentation like with this song. Amazing chorus. You'll hear Em at a definite peak.

Knowing the timeline of his career helps you understand him.
1996 Infinte album didnt go viral
Strugling with raising his daughter and money issues he create slim shady
He makes Slim Shady ep and gets the attention of iconic producer Dr Dre (the guy with sunglasses in Without Me)
1999 Slim Shady lp drops under Aftermath ( Dre's label)
It went platinium and beacause of his explicit lyrics lots of people complained about his lyrical content
2000 he dropped marshal mathers lp which was more serious than slim shady and he kinda explained himself and fired back at haters and critics
2002 The Eminem show album & the movie 8 mile
    2004 Encore album
2007 Drug overdose and near death experience
2009 Relapse album which was based on his drug problems and throwback to his first 2 CDs ( mmlp sslp)
2010 Recovery an uplifting album about being sober and basically recovery
2011 a duo album with Royce tha 59
    2013 MMLP2 a remake of his 2000 alum MMLP
2017 Revival album wasnt recieved well and caught a lot of hate from media
2018 fired back at them with Kamikaze
    2020 MTBMB album

one of the reason for this song is the fact that the parents and by parents i mean moms protested him and his lyrics, but they forgot that they are the generation that was throwing bra's on the stage at Elvis concerts, another controversial artist that was criticized by the "parents" for his body movement (the same movement Eminem was doing in the car) and lyrics.
