Still no way to retrieve an information I want to use ... (like : create a page in other database and give it the same name as the name of line where I click the button)
Yeah that would be the dream 🥲 good news though is that they seem to still very much actively develop buttons, so I’m hopeful that we get more variables and dynamic data soon!
I somehow love how saving a single click can bring so much joy. Fantastic stuff. I find that this functionality is a good START to what we all want. Dynamic variables are just needed. Instead of saving a single click, I want to save meaningful time (editing the task, the date, etc). But I think they are clearly building towards this, just taking their time to make sure it's done properly, which I appreciate.
Haha thank you! And I agree, would love to be able to save much more than that and move some of my automations back into Notion - in the meantime, I’ll celebrate the little wins 😂
@@mfreihaendig 100% man. I love Notion to bits, it has solved so many problems, so well, so I'll celebrate this stuff with you. I'm just incredibly impatient. "I want it now" is in my blood. Anyhow, great content and thanks again.
Your video "How to share only part of a Notion database..." Was amazing, but Make needs the specific ID of the database. What we are doing is a daily Journal(as a template) with 3 DBs(for example one database related to an Assets database and these assets' quantity is updated every day and we want this quantity to update in the main DB, also an expenses database with expenses added every day and they should be added to a main DB too, but I guess this one can be done with a linked DB filtered to today only), and the data from these databases should update/add to the data in the main databases, but they are created every day with each journal entry(and have their new unique IDs), so the Make solution does not work here. Do you have an idea how to do this?
Hm can’t quite imagine your setup from that description alone - but it doesn’t seem like you need partial sharing here? Couldn’t you just use roll-ups and formulas to bring the data into the main database? 🤔
@@mfreihaendig I thought dynamic sharing of variables between DBs is still not possible, but maybe I misunderstood. I will study more and will try to do it, thanks so much for answering.
Hallelujah - "time done" is finally possible! All your other use cases also super useful. Thanks for the video - a nice surprise, I hadn't spotted this feature yet.
There’s no built-in way to do that - but you can use the Notion api to query it and then export it to wherever you need it Here’s the documentation: developers.notion.com/
I wish and want they can add - The feature in DATE property the start date and end date with Now and Today. I dont want separate property for start date and end date - The same conditions/filter with Edit pages of a database for "This Page" - When you click the button change the label name for another cascade of action and a more of clicks too
It would be great if the button for status can switch/change between different status types (from not started, to doing, finished; for example). Now you can link only one type and I don’t want to create two buttons for doing and one for finished.
That’s a bit of a longer one 😅 you can use this separate formula to turn your minute output into an hour and minute display: if((prop("Total Minutes") == 0), "00:00", (((format(floor(prop("Total Minutes") / 60)) + "hr ") + format(prop("Total Minutes") - (floor(prop("Total Minutes") / 60) * 60))) + "min"))
Definitely a cool feature to add, but idk if I'd call any of these "creative use-cases". These all kind of seem like the obvious use cases for database buttons
Fair point - I think it depends on how deep you’re in the weeds of these kind of features. Do you have any use cases that are more creative than this? 😇
Oh! I have an idea with this. What if with the click of a button I make a private page/note/task visible or duplicated in another database that is shared with someone. Would be that possible? Thanks for your videos!
Unfortunately no 🥲 Can’t duplicate information atm since we don’t have access to the data inside the button and share settings aren’t even exposed on the API - hopefully possible in the future though!
Awesome new feature. Love the Today button. Will be great for then jumping to Notion Calendar and scheduling. Time tracking is going to be great too, but I'd prefer a separate database that allows for multiple entries. I hope they add buttons to the navigation as well eventually.
last night i was cracking my head on how to set up a time tracker with the new button feature in database but i found your video and you explained how to do it THANK YOUUUUUUUUU
Great examples Matthias! Thanks for sharing ideas for buttons in databases!
Glad you liked it! ☺️ found any other use cases already?

Hi Matthias is it possible with these buttons if a status is changed then to set a reminder at another property with an “end date”? Thanks 🙏 I
Buttons are still very limited without dynamic data.
Unfortunately yes - but it’s another step, so I hope we get the rest soon ☺️
Real world examples please for better visualization of your concepts.
Any specific industry?
I found it last night... Came here,, found nothing,... Used it... And now comes the notification...
Took me a second to upload 😅

Hello Matthias. How do you create or export the schema of a Notion Database? Greetings.

hey sorry! i have a question regarding the time tracking formula, how can i edit the formula for it to show the text “hour” and “minutes”?😅

Yep, when setting up your “add page to action” it will show a small “as …” option where you can pick the desired template 😇
