Pure class to plug Mojaxx straight out of the gate Phil 👌
He’s gonna boss this one
His review was very thorough. Yours is also super informative and your tone of excitement to share the unit with us was palpable. Great job my dude! Loved the tune you chose to demo it too! Whats the ID on that?
Aaahhhh.......... the brotherly love felt wonderful. Respect for Mojaxx was well received.
Edit: coming down when I typed that...
He's the best in the business for in-depth tech reviews, in our opinion.
Mojaxx the goat
This!
coming down off the snorted winky? little clanker flahistimo lay off the dunk
What an amazing shout-out to Mo Jax! 👏 That said, I have a prediction to make: Rotary midi controllers, will become a thing soon enough.
The only reason I don’t think they’ve come to market yet is the feel on a rotary is super important. The pots and components need to be very high quality analog bits with no stepping between values.
I would like to see one but I think the component cost would keep it a niche product.
Rotary mixers in general are a niche produt.@@beastfremont
Even though I have no interest in rotary mixers I'm still watching bc I'm a gear head (equipment addict) I love all the videos and the respect you guys show each other is very respectable and commendable. Great video as always thanks Phil and the DDJT team
Awesome! Thank you!
I don't know how, but I have to put my hands on that phenomenal machine! 🤤
Right?!
I have a fantastic Rotary Mixer A Bozak 1620 shout out to DJ Larry Levan and Richard Long Sound! This Rotory Mixer was the
Cadillac of its day. Buzzy Beck was the sound engineer of the Bozak mixer.
I heard one in the flesh recently. The sound is absolutely phenomenal, especially the isolators. Blew me away
We agree!
Lovely mixer. Love giving it a try.
Have fun!
Just when I thought I was finished buying DJ kit. :(
Giving a shoutout to Mojaxx, Phil's a class act.
It's a very desirable mixer, isn't it?
I wonder how long it will be before there's a Decksaver cover? @@digitaldjtips
Very nice review Phil
Glad you enjoyed it Shauny
What a beauty… but most importantly… how does it sound. Design wise they nailed it 👍🏻
It sounds really nice, as I say in the written piece, best sound we've heard from the brand... up there with the V10.
How are the phono inputs? Can you compare it with the Model1? Maybe have some audio files from both?
I think it's definitive mixer for me.. juts what I'm waiting for: sturdy rotary with (essential) FXs and DVS option.. I think I'll sell my 96, DB4 and MasterSounds 4Vmk1 to get this beautiful..
Sounds like you're the exact target audience here.
@@digitaldjtips 😄 I think to.. when available in Europe (Italy) ?
Holy smokes Phil!
Yeah, what a beast!
10:29 finally, a review that hit it on the nail. These mixers are meant for a specific genre. They won’t satisfy the quick mix style of DJing that is a growing trend.
We are old enough to remember them first time around 🤣
Honestly, if I could afford one and add it to a set of turntables, I wouldn't hesitate. 👌 Thanks for the review Phil 🙌
Any time!
Well, you also touch on stuff that Mo-Jaxx didn't mention in his review🙂You have covered a lot of stuff. Big Up...
Between us we've got it nailed then! 👍
Oh wow this is a beauty! But I know it’s not for me and for what I do. Well, my status could change within the next year, who knows. Thank you Phil!
Glad this made you smile Benny!
@@digitaldjtips come to think of it, I just released 2 House Tracks and I’m a total House Head from Chicago. But for now I do a lot of weddings and have to keep open format until my status of DJ/Artist/Producer pick up so I can move up, travel and get this mixer. The courses really made a difference in my career! Thank you Phil and DDJT crew!
The Tape Echo sounds amazing. Is that a new effect on Pioneer gear?
BOOM!
this is what I had envisioned intensely abt 5 years ago contemplating the optimal form of a tool to mix tracks together digitally that was not emulating imitating turntables or influenced by former methods but also carried a presence and soul that could be taken seriously, unlike the typical laptop and plastic software controller with jogwheels. almost exactly my vision but mine had 2 analog vu dials.
Wow, looks like you're impressed. And that "multi needle" VU is actually a great idea.
What a gorgeous mixer❤ I would love one, but I think I have to settle for one of the Ecler rotaries. At under half the price, a Worm4 seems a good option.
They seem really nice, we like the look of those too.
Amazing mixer. This is high end stuff definitely. If they put the same approach on a four channel line fader mixer, it would be the best out there, something in between V10 and this one. Loved the effects section. And if you look closer, both V10 and this had brought back the isolator.
Yes that’s true
This looks amazing! I’m wondering if we will see this mixer being used at the big music festivals.
Only if DJs ask for it
I would love this in the home studio. I fit in the niche of someone who would utilize this unit both for sound and aesthetics.
Definitely has a real high-end feel.
I want it but not for mixing, I want to hang on the wall like art, it's beautiful
Yes there is a strong element of that!
Pioneer moving a fast pace in product development. Looks like they blending retro with futuristic design. Btw phill I am trying to set up Opus Quad in rekordbox but am not seeing the option to select it. I have rekordbox version 6.8
Nice one Phil. Bat shit crazy breakfast review. I wanna go mix some Techno now.
Ha ha yeah, definitely a curve ball. As I said at the end of the written piece, the kind of thing we used to expect from Vestax.
I just pre-ordered. According to the Sweetwater sales rep, the first production run is already sold out. The second batch is due by the end of the month.
Interesting, thanks for the feedback.
Hey Phil, amazing shout out to MJ! Still we need all the info so checking your review as we speak. Also, comparing SQ from the V10 and the Euphonia, what can you tell us?
Sound the same to me
Wondering when rotarys will appear on controllers!
A controller with rotaries would be amazing
Ohhhh 👀
Indeed!
What is the best Android DJ app ? I need to play with an impulse 500
👍👍👍👍
Nice video, Phil. Naive question: what can be done with this (or, generally, a rotary mixer) that you cannot do (or cannot do it as well as with it) with a fader mixer with comparable quality?
Nothing, it is all about what you prefer to use, and the workflow.
@@digitaldjtips 👌
time to replace my Rane XP & MP mixer? look forward to your full review.
They want it back lol
Allen & Heath has to deliver now
Getting back into DJing and my goal was to switch back to vinyl eventually, but seeing this has me thinking maybe using Lossless files and carrying this mixer to every show instead lol
Ha, vinyl will never lose its appeal!
@@digitaldjtips It's too sexy to ignore! Sorting files on a computer just feels like desk work lol I'm a film over digital movie guy too tho it's a theme.
This mixer looks amazing. I would like to use it with Traktor and a Traktor Kontrol X1, do you know if that would work? Also when recording the mix in Traktor or Rekordbox software will the signal pass through the Neve Transformer before converted to digital?
Yes, that should work fine
Great. Next, they will release the XDJ-ZX2, which will be just like the current XZ with a bigger screen, a 6-channel mixer and the ability to play just two tracks... groundbreaking stuff
looks really oldschool
Now THIS is how a mixer should look and sound like…
Can't argue with that, it is a thing of beauty and it sounds amazing.
I would love to see Andy C get his hands on this, or Christopher Lawrence.
Why Andy C?? I love Andy but wouldn't envisage him on this?
No, me neither...
@@TheDropInn because he’s mostly a vinyl DJ
@@TheDropInn please do elaborate, how soon?
Probably because Andy C is a DnB dj and they don’t use rotary mixes, as not the best for quick cuts.
The pfl's meters.....damed... Rodec set the standard..maybe to high....
the timing knob is dope...
I saw light ,a glimps of hope but then ,...the price.
near 4000 € .....
Definitely an object of desire!
How much this rotary beauty?!
If you have to ask, you can't afford it 🤣
3.5K roughly, depending on where you are in the world. It’s a bargain!
Why not also for Techno?
No rules but a V10 would be my techno choice
@@digitaldjtips Thanks Would I be able to use it with Traktor and the standalone AUDIO10 as line inputs? what would be the bad thing about that setup?
Everyone talking about how expensive it is….it isnt.
Union audio orbit 6 (no fx no digital)= £5000+
Mastersounds valve 4 (no fx, no digital) + MS effects unit. = £3200
Plus many more niche mixers that cost more but have less features. Audiophile sound only goes so far these days.
You know what they mean though. Want, but can't afford = Expensive.
They're all expensive
@@MadelnMachines Yeah, rhe Pioneer tax is outragous
@@Fran-or3lt
Still it is cheaper and more advanced than all the rotary competitors!

Don't think yours will be the only one
Pioneer: Hey lets finally make that analog rotary mixer they've been wanting..
Also Pioneer: but lets change our name to Alpha Theta and then make it unaffordable for nearly every DJ that spins vinyl.
It certain does cost a pretty penny
3799$ 😳
...can't wait to see how James Hype or any pro deejay will use this mixer on a big festival or party....🙄
Nope, not for those types of DJ
Warning to everyone buying and a question for alphatheta; DigitalDjTips; will this mixer have post fader serato effects?
This was a big issue that was never resolved with the Rane mp 2015. As soon as you turned the rotary down, off, cut the volume there was no echo, reverb, no tail on the effect. It was instant off. Rane blamed Serato; Serato blamed Rane and it was never addressed. This was not the case with Traktor so it wasn’t a hardware issue.
Please demand Alphatheta Serato and anyone reviewing to be clear and go on record before you buy the mixer to use with Serato.
DigitalDJTips, will you please clarify if this mixer will have post fader serato effects when used with Serato Software?
No reason why it shouldn't but if we get a chance we will check. You could ask Serato too.
@@digitaldjtips
Thank you for replying. I did ask alphatheta (don’t they also own Serato?)Wouldn’t you agree that this is an important question? This was overlooked with the Rane mp 2015 when everyone reviewed it. It was rather painful to find out after I purchased the mixer and paid for Serato, 1, because it was such an expensive mixer and didn’t have a Serato license included and 2 because it wasn’t mentioned anywhere when reviewed; to be fair, this should be disclosed by Serato and a tested feature by reviewers as effects are an important part of deejaying/performing.
I remeber back then Serato responding pointing to word play, saying that there is a difference between Serato “supported “ and Serato certified. Making the point that the “Supported” list of devices means that features (undisclosed list) of Serato software aren’t supported before saying that it was something Rane needed to correct to unlock.
I don’t remember if it was Rane or Serato that stated it was something that Rane had to pay Serato to unlock.
I thought it new absolutely crazy to boast support for a mixer without telling people that Serato effects wouldn’t work post fader. Something Rane should have made clear as well.
@@digitaldjtips
Also why not compare this to the first hybrid (Rane MP 2015) mixer? Nice that you shouted out Urei. I still have my original one from the 80’s.
You did a nice review of the Mp 2015 (I remeber laughing when you had the dj perform a scratch showing us all the possibilities and how scratching isn’t quite meant for rotaries but possible).
A sound comparison between the two would be nice as well as a feature comparison. I think Rane wins in some categories with their customized high pass low pass, blended filter as well as the bus channel for effects and the 4 channels or using the bus channel as a 5th channel.
The isolator on the 2015 was also more customizable (unless I missed something on all the euphonia reviews)
Very surprised no one is mentioning the Rane MP 2015 that was first out of the gate with this type of hybrid mixer. It made quite the splash when it came out and fetches a good amount of money on reverb and eBay (upward of 5k)
Thank you digital dj tips; I am subscribed and liking, doing anything to support your channel. Your reviews speak to and include all of us (old and new in the business)
I’m waiting for the first 4 channel rotary standalone/hybrid dj software controller if anyone at alphatheta, Rane and Denon are listening?
rotary mixers aren't seen in clubs for a reason
They are in some, for a reason.
to try and look cool probably 😅@@digitaldjtips
Actually a lot of clubs do have rotary mixers!
@JamesHype hates it already.
James Hype would stomp off stage if that was what he was forced to work with !
Now, if this thing streamed directly from services or the cloud or even the digital had a little stems section plus the bluetooth and multi i/o from their other mixers pus the filters from the Xone 96.... Now, I know that is not the "point" of this mixer but just saying..... (might bring it closer in line to the price tag and maybe mixers shouldn't have a "point")
All good and nicely, but honestly who really will use that Mixer ? For Bedroom Djs way too expensive, and I can’t even imagine that Mixer really in a Club environment. On Top of That , it will be obviously not available or orderable for a long time like whit all "Pioneer Dj " Stuff in the last couple of years
Pro and serious hobby DJs who come from the rotary mixer background (it is a thing, trust me!).
It’s me! It’s me! Bedroom DJ with good disposable income, the joys of being oldish !
Removing the filter knob on the individual channels is a big disappointment. Digital mixer needs that filter that Pioneer mixers are known for. If it had that, I'd be all over this.
It's mimicking the workflow of an analogue rotary + tape echo + isolator, which is why it is like that.
Apparently on the effects unit, the last effect to the left allows the send knob on each individual channel to act like a HPF, giving each channel its own filter in a way. Only problem is now you can’t use any other effects unless you have some auxiliaries.
@yrureadingthisname yes noticed that, but it's shared across all the channels you can't use it individually. For example, if I'm mixing out of track 1 into track 2, I'd like to be able to mix changing each filter parameter individually. One raised and the other lowered. Also, the effects section for me is best used in conjunction with the filter. Specifically, Reverb. As you said, you can't use more thsn 1 at a time. This should have a filter setup just like all other Pioneer mixers. It's a shame that it doesn't.
Seems wayyy to expensive to do what you can do progmaticly with in software. Neich is correct.
Why? This is, once again, a niche product just like the OPUS Quad. Hardly any working DJ is going to invest in this over a DJM V10. The OPUS Quad has dropped in price by 600 Euros here in Germany, direct proof of the lack in sales. That Alpha Theta is a toy and a waste of space, and now this. Isn't Pioneer listening to us anymore? When is the new XDJ XZ 2 coming?
Question: Why should they make every product for every DJ? This has a definite niche it is targeting, so by definition, it won't be for everyone.
@@digitaldjtips Hi Phil, I’m not suggesting that every product is meant for every DJ. I think my opinion on the OPUS Quad is relevant as an example and comparative to this AlphaTheta device. It costs enormous amounts of money to bring a brand new product to market. The FLX 10, for example, was just an upgrade from the 1000 and it’s SRT derivative and exploded onto the market with a bang. Great machine all round. The OPUS has nose dived over here. It’s a great machine but has received relatively small acclaim in the DJ world. The resources invested into that mistake could have been invested into bringing an XZ Mk2 to market, a machine that many are waiting for and many are speculating about. The original XZ is still a beast of a machine but now well outdated. No streaming, slow and small screen, no STEMS etc. Pioneer, like any other manufacturing company, is interested in sales volume. I just feel that all this experimentation going on at the moment is just catering to the few whilst the masses are waiting for that next big arrival which will produce massive sales volume. My opinion is of course very subjective, and I know there will be others that think this new mixer and the AlphaTheta are great products and will sell well. I don’t however and believe that Pioneer has dropped the ball somehow. My best 👍
Looks like a shit DJ mixer from Tandy circa 1993
It does indeed have that Realistic mixer look, you're right! My first mixer was one of those... however this is obviously nothing like them, other than harking visually to a previous era.
They are really running out of ideas.
Not true! Look and listen again!
