Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

They are one of the Founders of the genre...if one of those few bands were not voted the best, I would think Loudwire was either full of it or on the take..

So very true. Big corporate radio really prevents us Americans from experiencing so many great bands.
Try to remember, US radio stations will NOT play a song that is longer than 4 minutes to accommodate the advertisers.

@@CoachCastTV For your next one, try Phantom of the Opera by Nightwish. It's there version of the classic broadway musicals song. It is straight up amazing. Marco nailed exactly how the phantom should sing.
@@LordGrokken, well, you should point out, that you mean the 2005-version with their first singer. She's more operatic which fits this song a little better. Floor does good too in her version a few years ago - especially in the beginning - but for the ending Tarjas voice is much richer. But that's just my 5 cents.

The "very interesting and creative mind" that you refer to is that of Tuomas Holopainen aka The Metal Mozart - seen hear on keyboards. He composes pretty much all of the Nightwish material. You're in for a real musical treat with this band and indeed the solo material of their incredible vocalist Floor Jansen.

Good one. They don't block. Floor is a 6'1'' Siren/Angel/Valkyrie. Wacken 2013 was her introduction as the new singer to the European fans. Try any other from the same show it's all excellent, Story Time, Ever Dream, Song Of Myself, Romanticide, Ghost River etc.

But who cares, she said once she was 2.4 metres or something like that!
But yes, great performance and Floor has only got better.
In fact Nightwish got better and better until Marco's departure but although his vocals and the tone of his bass will be missed, Tuomas has got better and better still in his compositions and I truly believe, impossible as it may seem, that he will continue to get better

The singer, Floor Jensen, is a force of Nature. She is married to the drummer from the Swedish Metal group Sabaton. They do metal that highlights historical events related to war.If you have not seen them, they are awesome. Always watch their videos to the very end. No Bullets Fly is a must see.
Sabaton is straight up amazing just for how they turn history into music.

Just FYI, that’s about 70 minutes into the show, and Floor had been killin’ it the whole way already. Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. I love watching these reaction videos and my biggest hope is that people follow and enjoy the Symphonic Metal path I was led to. Welcome to it.

That highly creative mind you mentioned belongs to the keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen, who composes and writes the lyrics for the great majority of this band's work. He is often called the "Metal Mozart." This is a group of highly professional musicians who play for the song. You will find no egos here, only a team working together to produce the best music they can. As you go down the Nightwish rabbithole, you will find that every song is different, and there isn't a bad song in the bunch. I'm going to subscribe in the hopes that you will continue to enjoy this group. Blocking, by the way, is usually not a problem in the US,

Yup!! I've easily watched this video 200+ times. Original and reactions since discovering Nightwish this time last year. Then there are the other Nightwish songs, especially from Wacken 2013.
Just 200? 😀 I think I did that many times when I first heard it, without listening to anything else 🙂. Now it easily is a 4-digit-number, still not getting tired of it.
I discovered Nighwish and Floor Jansen about 3 years ago, and since then I listen to EVERY reaction video of this song I can find. Must have been about 2.000 or more, and I will go on doing so for as long as there will be new reactions!

I am 66 years old and have been listening to rock and roll, heavy metal etc, since I was a.young boy, doing my homework with my best friend, listening to Steppenwolf and Led Zeppelin! In all my years, I had been looking for a band the is better that all the great legends of"Rock and Roll" and Nightwish is the absolute best I have ever had the pleasure of listening to...plain and simple!
This concert had 82,000 people in attendance, and as you could see...everyone was singing along with the band...and I wish I could have been there!
You will find out the Nightwish fans are passionate and will direct you which way to go! We all have our own personal favorites, but really, just follow Gabriel's suggestions!

As a 65 yo classic rocker, I discovered NW/Ghost Love Score through a reaction video pre-pandemic and was instantly smitten! I was initially hesitant to check out more NW since I thought there was no way they could live up to GLS but I couldn't have been more wrong as pretty much every new track I listened to became my favorite. Don't expect every Nightwish song to be like this. Every song is different and each one an adventure. I've been listening to rock music since 1956 and this is the best band I've ever heard.
Nightwish and Floor Jansen will keep you busy. The Nightwish discography is deep, going back to 1996. Floor has been in three metal bands since 1997, After Forever, ReVamp, and now Nightwish. She has also produced a project album "Northward", a recent solo album that is mostly pop, plus she produced a range of covers during the pandemic. Lots to choose from . . .
She is classically trained and is capable of ranging from opera to death metal growls, plus a very broad range of genres. To date she has sung in eight languages, of which she speaks four with a smattering of a fifth. In this song you heard three distinct genres from her training, opera with its dark sound, then classical and musical theatre. Then she pulled out some metal rasp and finished with a rock & roll belt.
Just wait until you watch and hear her sing "Phantom of the Opera", played by Nightwish and featuring Henk Poort, a former Phantom who played the role about 600 times on the Dutch stage.

Always to happy see Nightwish reactions. The true mind master behind Nightwish music is Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards). He is our metal Mozart, our Finnish national treasure. He writes and composes this beautiful music. Tuomas once said in interview he does not write music for radio. Maybe many people have not been familiar with Nightwish, just a common statement. Hope you continue this Nightwish journey because this music is so beautiful. And that Jukka's drumming, I love that.

This song is a story, it is a play with several acts. If you watch it again and see every key/tempo change as a new act in the play it all makes sense.

At this time, Floor was a stand-in vocalist having been called in ar short notice (like 48 hours) to help the band through the remaining gigs of their US tour.
Even as a stand-in she had the crowd of 82,000+ in the palm of her hand. Unsurprisingly, shortly after she was invited to make it permanent.

Nightwish Army, Florida Panhandle Division checking in for duty! Welcome to the amazingly beautiful world of symphonic metal: a very deep, very wide rabbit hole that will never get boring! Yes, Viking / Celtic vibes and themes are quite common among Nordic metal bands. This particular song is written in the style of a grand movie score, hence the reason for "score" in the title. The background musicians are, in fact, The London Philharmonic Orchestra with whom Nightwish collaborates frequently. The background gospel choir is provided by Metro Voices of London, a contract choir house with whom they also collaborate. The guy on the keyboards is the maestro composer and world-class poet lyricist who writes and scores essentially all of Nightwish's discography over the past 26 years or so. The band is from Finland, the current singer is Dutch.
This song is a deeply metaphorical poem that tells the story of a young man whose romantic heart is torn out and trounced by unrequited, one-sided love. He spends a significant portion of his young life totally smitten/infatuated/obsessed with a woman with whom he is forced, by circumstances, to be closely associated with professionally. His frustrated dreams for romance are dashed when he finally realizes that the object of his infatuation is a figment of his imagination and not the real woman as she actually is; in effect a "ghost"; hence the "Ghost Love" in the title. You can see this interpretation most clearly by listening to the choir voices in the first two verses and contrasting them to the same voices in the reprise of the verse in the grand finale. Before the realization: "My fall will be for you, my love will be with you; If you be the one to cut me, I will bleed forever." And after the realization: "My fall will be for you, my love will be with you; You were the one to cut me, so I will bleed forever!" Welcome to the Nightwish rabbit hole. Most of us suggest sticking with Gabriel's list. Not for the purpose of following it in order but for the purpose that he has selected / curated the best of the best RUclips links that go to high quality, professionally shot recordings that will best showcase the beauty of the compositions. If you stray from Gabriel's list of links, you run the risk of getting a lot of poorly uploaded, poor quality videos from fans' cellphones in the noisy crowd. While studio album cuts are always good quality (and in fact are recommended for a handful of tracks here and there), they are not the best choice for appreciating Nightwish. Their pro-shot, live performances simply cannot be beat!

17:45 we of the Nightwish Army actually do listen to that one song over and over... every time we see someone new react to it 😁 To give a little context as well, Nightwish was the headline act of Wacken 2013. They were the final band to play, on the final day, with 82,000 people in that crowd. In Nightwish lore, there is pre-Wacken Nightwish, and post-Wacken Nightwish, because Wacken 2013 was absolute perfection the whole way through. It was, and to many still is, the single best performance that Nightwish has ever done, and seeing as they bring that much energy, fire, and drive to every show they have done, that's saying something!
I discovered Nightwish at the age of 65 and now I am totally hooked. Every song is special, with fantastic music and deep texts. And Floors voice every time grabs me by my soul - so warm and strong at the same time. She can sing like an angel and as well like a demon (listen to "Yours is an empty hope" from Wembley 2015 - there you even can hear her growl). If you want to hear her going fully operatic watch "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" from Epicas concert "Retrospectiv" (Floor was a guest at this concert) or at the end of "Shoemaker" from Nightwish. She is able to totally enchant me by her fantastic highly versatile voice. And Floor is only one member of this band; they all are highly skilled musicians and Marko (bass player) also has a great voice.

Welcome into the wonderful world of storytelling by Nightwish and their incredible talented female vocalist Floor Jansen (pronounce Yahn-Sen).. To me this song is one of the best examples of symphonic metal music.
Although the band is Finnish, their 3rd singer is not, she is Dutch, lives with her husband Hannes van Dahl, the drummer of the Swedish band Sabaton and their two daughters in Sweden.
Floor was born on Februari 21st, 1981 in Goirle the Netherlands. At the age of 16 she started her career (initially) just as the background singer from the Dutch metal band ‘After Forever’ in 1997, but real soon she took over the lead until early 2009 and the band fell apart. Parallel she studied at the Dutch Rock Academy in Tilburg starting in 1999 where she graduated in 2003 and spent two years on classical training with the National Conservatory. She studied Musical Theatre and one year Opera. She plays guitar, piano and flute and has completed 12 years of music studies. She’s a Light Lyric Soprano and her vocalrange runs from E3 to D6. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons.
On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ‘ReVamp’, which was disbanded in September 2016. In August 2010 Jansen was a guest in the TV program De tiende van Tijl. In that program she sang an aria by Puccini. From October 1, 2012 (while she was within ReVamp, but recovering from a burnout) Floor replaced Anette Olzon as the singer of Nightwish halfway their Imaginaerum World Tour. After one year (shortly after the Wacken Open Air festival concert 2013) on October 9th 2013, it was announced that she was to become the group's regular new front singer.

Nightwish, After Forever and ReVamp worked under the same Nuclear Blast record label. Tuomas and Floor know each other since August 20th, 2002 when Nightwish played in a sold-out and swelteringly hot “Hof Ter Lo” in Antwerp with After Forever and Charon as support act.

Saw this video and Nightwish for the first time a couple of years ago. I had the same reaction. I'm in my '60s and have listened to hard rock and heavy metal as well as Frank Sinatra and some pop over the years....but this song literally brought me to tears. After hearing it a hundred times, I still tear up when she first starts singing. Floor is original and something very very special... 👌

I'm 60, I discovered Nightwish about a year ago. Music is a big part of my life. I cannot sing or play an instrument, but if I'm at an orchestra or a choir, I can tell you if someone is off and know which person it is. I'm a big RUSH fan (Canadian Trio) who are the gods of progressive rock. This is symphonic metal. As someone previously mentioned, Floor is the 3rd and present singer of the band. This show was the 2013 WACKEN (pronounced Vokken) Open Air Concert. The 2nd singer for the band Annette Olson, who is also very talented just to work out. Floor was asked to fill in for the 2013 tour but was not a member. She was so successful that she got the full time gig after the tour. You should she her with Dutch Opera singer Henk Poort, do the main song from the Rock Musical "Phantom of the Opera" on a Dutch TV show "Beste Zanger". Nightwish is a Finnish band, with a Dutch lead singer, singing in English.
To answer you question about videos being blocked. It isn't so much the music label, but a person (either a soloist or a band member). I'm a big Fleetwood Mac fan, but their guitarist/singer Lindsay Buckingham is a A-hole, so some of their songs get blocked. Same with the Eagles, because of Don Henley.
Yes, we actually know of a big reaction channel that got several copyright strikes as a result of their reactions to the Eagles. Some labels just don't get it.
