- At Shell, we are committed to delivering more value with less emissions. As part of our #decarbonisation efforts, we launched some of our largest research & development programmes in key areas for energy transition technology. Electrifying industrial processes is one of them. Using renewable electricity to produce consumer goods, steel or cement is paramount to achieve net-zero emissions.
We are delighted to share with you some of our latest advancements in our industrial electrification technology programme: from energy storage as a central part of the energy transition to the crucial role that digital technologies will have to integrate the entire power value chain, we are developing end-to-end solutions for the #electrification of our own assets and those of our customers. You have solar that works without light and wind energy that works without wind? Batteries require recharging which means having excess power to that normally required and once the batteries are charged you have enormous amounts of energy with nowhere to go.
Great thinking there.
In the UK we sometimes have weeks without much light or wind in winter, then come the frosts and rain which cover the solar panels, long nights and short days and the sun goes very low in the sky.
We have the largest battery plant in Europe that will provide power to 300,000 homes for about two hours, what then? You talk of industry and renewables? What sort of 'development' is this?
