Oh boy, a big hole in the top tube for rain to pour into… an integrated headset so I’m less likely to be able to fix an issue on the roadside, and now I can’t mount my phone or aero bars for another hand position on long rides… Great update canyon… 🙄
The concept of an aero race bike with endurance geometry is great but those marketing terms are just an never ending loophole Thicker tubes: more aero and stiffer Thinner tubes: lighter and more comfort They can literally make any shape and use those terms to justify their decision and claim it’s ‘better than the previous version’ without the consumers having any way of testifying. I guess I’ll patiently ride my 2015 supersix which can fit 28c tyres until the golden age of bicycles return then.
Got the email this morning, immediately ordered the CF SLX Rival. Bit pricey, but it perfectly suits this 62 year old road dog. Yes, a similar gravel would have suited in my long tour bike packing days, but this works for us OMILs upgrading our decade old Bianchi race bikes. Like my hotels, I prefer 5 star comfort now I can finally afford it and I reckon I could get up those hills better on this new steed. Still, no fender mounts and that ugly top bar storage hatch are a miss. Concealed storage is welcome though, even if I won’t be able to get my banana in. It’s very peevy of Canyon to not bundle the tools. Even at my 57 years of owning, loving and riding bikes, this one still excites me.
Canyons’s excuse for no mudguard mounts is really lame. Probably just forgot. And that top tube battery style hatch is plain daft - but few bikes are perfect, except the one you love riding.
I bought it. Love it. I would like mudguard mounts, but there are possibilities to add a mudguard without a mount. Internal storage I don’t care much about. It’s an endurance bike so you probably don’t mind having a saddle bag to store tools.
Will Canyon go to threaded bottom brackets at any point? Hate seeing pressfit on a bike like this. I also am not impressed by the top tube storage. My Domane uses the downtube for storage which allows me to not only have a multi tool attached to the door of the storage but the internal roll can hold CO2, levers, an inflator and a tube. The size of the storage compartment can also allow a small pump if one chooses (I don't) and some additional snacks if need be (I don't as I carry in my jersey). Using the top tube is pretty much a waste IMHO. 2 Reply
I just purchased 9-20-23 the small cf Slx with sram force etap axs. Did a 100 mile ride on it and it rides awesome, the ride from my old bike is way more comfortable, smoother, fast I was surprised how it rides, at 55 yrs old I am more happier and will ride more👏🏻🚴🏻♂️
I have a 2020 Endurace CF which I love. The internal storage in the new model seems to be a bit of a gimmick…I can see myself just filling the bag with jellybeans “for emergency use only”. But I guess the improved aerodynamics can’t hurt and the bike undeniably looks better being cable-free. I think I’d also appreciate a 12-speed cassette because 11-speed has a lot of big jumps from 11-34. Are there any figures published for improvements in frame stiffness and weight? To answer your question, I couldn’t care less about mudguard mounts and I reckon 90% of my club mates would feel the same, even though we live in a country that probably gets even more rain than the UK, namely Ireland. There are lots of mudguard designs now that don’t require mounts.
The top tube bag is to hold food, gels, chews etc. so that you can grab and eat while riding. You can't do that with that tiny integrated storage in the top tube.
Marketed as the fastest endurance aero race bike of all time, but missing out on the option to put on aero/tri-bars. Big fail for ultracycling events like the transcontinental race where this bike could shine. Well Canyon...next please.
7w at 45kph? That’s an embarrassing claim considering they hid the cables and slapped an aeroad handlebar at on it. What did Swiss side actually contribute lol?
@@CarpeDiem13x hey smart guy, start your leaning starts here. At 45kph with a cda of .300, which would be good for an endurance rider, it takes 418w to travel 45kph. If it saves 7w that means they lowered the cda to .294. Hiding the cables is worth 4 watts at that speed. Say the handle bar that they just lifters off the aeroad is 3watts faster. Now we’re at 7, we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say this comparison is with the same wheels on each bike. I also give them the benefit of the doubt that they equalized handlebar width in this test. Tell me what Swiss side did with the rest of the bike to make it faster in the remaining 0 watts? Then it wasn’t even mentioned if this is a bottles on or no bottles condition. You need a better life detector to know when you are being put on. So yes, I could be a bike designer who didn’t happen to be a former aerodynamicist for a back of the pack f1 team (like I should be proud of that) and make the old endurance 7watts faster (if you happen to be putting out over 400, they leave that out don’t they) by hiding exposed cables and stealing a handlebar made for our aero bike.
Mudguard sure (I don't understand the appeal at all, an ass-saver seems to work just fine). The price? No chance, Giant has to support physical retailers. By the time it makes it from the factory, through 3rd party distributors, and then 3rd party retailers. Each stop costs money that gets passed onto the consumer. Canyon is a direct-to-consumer, they own the entire process from factory to doorstep.
It sounds like the CF SLX and CFR Enduraces are more race-focused, whereas the lower tiered versions are more endurance-focused (mounting points, traditional stem/handlebars). This split reminds me of Cervelo's Soloist and Caledonia offerings, with the CF SLX / CFR Endurace similar to the Soloist; it's an attempt to be an all-arounder. I have a 2020 Endurace CF SL 8 (Di2) and really like it. But I did have to swap out the stem, something you can't do if you have an integrated cockpit. I also don't care about aerodynamics; as a triathlete, I have a tri bike for that. I also would have appreciated mounting points for bags and fenders.
there's a huge gap in the range, if you want a simple carbon endurance it's either 2000€ or 3700€, it's nearly double the price.. and I'm worried there isn't going to be an sl version as I think shimano isn't making 105 and ultegra mechanical anymore, if true that's a shame. I was defiantly on the market for an endurance but in the 2700-3000 range
They're still selling the older version which does fill that price point at the moment. Once the product matures more, they'll fill in those price points especially as the older models get sold.
Wow, look at that storage space. I'm sure my multi tool will fit in there 🙄 I'm forever riding at 45kph so it's good news I'll be able save so much effort 😒 Did Canyon even think about who this bike is aimed at?
Are you in the UK by any chance? You guys are obsessed with mudguards :) Despite getting even more rain here in Ireland, the mudguards thing isn’t as big a deal.
I must be missing something, but why can't you just use an ass-saver or something? I lived in the East Coast of the US where it rained all the time too, clip-on ass-saver worked perfectly fine.

I do think the Domane is better, but for the SRAM AXS force build, it’s $9700, that’s more than the top spec Endurace. I love the bike, it not at $4k more
Does a tube fit in the internal storage? After all this time, I think they wife’s on the update. I would rather have a domane. Surely top tube bosses and storage in the bigger down tube are better.
I don't think the people who are buying this bike are cross shopping for a Domane. Even though they're in the same bike category, the prices are completely different. If you look at the Domane SLR 7 AXS Gen 4, it's $9700 in the US (also can't believe it comes with an alloy stem for that price). The specs more closely resembles the Endurace CF SLX 8 AXS Aero, which comes in at $5500. If they were the same price, I would 100% take the Domane, but that price difference though.

One of the issues with the older Canyons is that they tend to be light by reducing the amount of resin used in their carbon. However, this makes it brittle so they break with far less force than many of their competitors (having dealt with two broken 2019 Aeroad frames personally). I suspect one reason the bikes weigh more is to add more strength to the carbon.
Hatch looks horrible, looks like a cheap plastic battery cover for a TV remote control and takes away from a clean design line. Im sure water is likely to get in and no doubt easy to drop it/break it or scratch it. The space isnt much use for anything practical either. Backward step here Canyon.

DO NOT BUY THIS BIKE. I bought this bike - Endurace CF SLX 8 Di2 Aero, and it arrived with such an ugly paint job. Numbers are visible on the frame, and the bike has so many white spots, as if it wasn't properly painted. I paid €5,258.80 for the bike and got such crap.
