My only complaint is that most times when he says "those" he should probably say "these", but at this point I can't tell if it's on purpose or not since it is so prevalent in his videos.

I really like these Mario challenges that have been popping up lately. It's really interesting to play a game with certain restrictions, y'know? I also really like how you dove into some retro Mario games for your coinless videos. Playing an older game coinless must be much harder because of the lack of movement options. The question you asked (5:10) intrigued me, so I booted up my 3ds for the first time in months to answer your question. For some reason, those dandelion things are treated like enemies when you touch the flagpole. They disappear. Why is there only one then? My theory: There is some sort of code in the game files that goes a little like dis: If dandelion? Then disappear. If coin in dandelion? Then collect it. There is a coin in one of the dandelions.
You forgot the Crown level in S8. You unlock it by getting all of the star coins in the game, get all golden flagpoles, and complete every level as both Mario and Luigi to unlock S8-Crown.

for that level you're confused with, possible or not, you can see the little flower circle things pop in the corner, giving you a coin probably because they were in the area. hope it helps.
You can beat the secret level with no coins if you take the item which brings you to the end of the level from on on the locked levels in the normal world.

The goal is not to touch coins. When you get coins from the timer and the flag, you don't touch them. Then you don't have to wait for less than 10 seconds on the clock and do not have to grab the top. You also don't have to skip the level with the "Mystery Coin". You also don't touch the coins from cosmic clones.

there are a few other times in the run where he clearly has several dandelions around a flag pole when he gets it yet there are no coins. Probably just an enemy accidentally put out of bounds by a dev.

The coin from 2-2 at the flagpole it was because 1 coin was in the white/yellow "bush" thing that why you get a coin. Tip: You can see that all the white/yellow bushes fade away after completing the level.
8:38 There is a glitch where you can stay on the edge and no enemies will appear until the first pirhanna plant appears. Which also saves you since you don't have to dodge as much.
Nico, the "broken level flagpole" is caused because if you notice the side of the screen, the puffs on the platform by the pipe are destroyed and the game must believe it is the same as an enemy or other entity.
At 5:20 If you notice the puff ball flowers explode when you grab the flagpole. The first one has a coin in it. So when it explodes, you collect the coin.
I think why it’s giving you a coin in 2-2 is because there is a flower onscreen when you grab the flagpole and the game might register it as running through the plant or using a fireball on the plant
5:20 the reason for the mysterious coin is when you hit the flag pole all the dandelions (I'm not sure what their called, the white and yellow puffy ones) expolde giving the coins they have on them
At 5:33, it looks like the coin at the end is gained from those flowers on screen since they pop at the end of the level. If you find a way to destroy those flowers without collecting a coin, it should be doable.
