Took a lot of attemots though and i cant do it consistently, but my god did it feel good when i got that star without the coin or glitches
I actually like Wet-Dry World quite a bit! It's definitely the most "abstract" course of the bunch (minus the flooded town, you'd have no idea what that place even is), but there are quite a few cool challenges in there.
In this video I'll explaining exactly what I do to collect Watch For Rolling Rocks with 0.5 coins, but first we need to clear something up, because every time I do a coin less run I always get the same comments over and over asking what it means. Even though, I always have a whole paragraph in the description explaining it. With even starts with, "If you're wondering what a coin less run is, read this before commenting to ask." But maybe what guys need isn't a paragraph, maybe you guys need an example. So, consider Wing Mario Over The Rainbow, not even the whole star, just consider getting to that cannon platform, which is a necessary part of getting the star. So how many coins does it take to get there? Well, if you say 0, that's wrong, because then Mario can't go far enough. If you say 1, well it's true Mario can get there with 1, but we can do a little better. We can do it in half a coin collection. To do that we simply start the level with 1 coin already in the counter, and then we use that coin to reach the platform. Now hold on, I know what you're thinking, "A coin grab is a coin grab. You can't say it's only a half." Well, SMM "Mayro" Gaming, hear me out. A coin grab actually has three parts to it, when the coin is collected, when the coin is held, and when the coin is released. And together this forms one complete coin grab. Now usually, it's the grabbing that useful, because that's the only part that adds coins to the counter. However, sometimes it's sufficient just to use the holding part which allows Mario to do little kicks, to swim in water, to fall slowly while twirling, and to fall slowly with the wing cap, and for the release. Well, there's currently no case where that's useful or important, so don't worry about that part. Now if we map out the required coin grabs for Wing Mario Over The Rainbow, it would look like this. We merely need to hold a coin to reach the cannon platform, we need to collect a coin to launch from the first cannon, and we need to collect another coin to launch from the second cannon.
*It is possible to get the star behind Chain Chomp's gate without touching that red coin on top of the wood:* you have to pick up a small Bob-Omb, then jump and throw it, then grab it again while it's in mid-air to make it look really really fat. The Bob-Omb should give you infinite momentum backwards. Use this backwards momentum to clip through the gate as you throw the Bob-Omb. I know you can't do that glitch because you didn't allow it in your challenge, but I'm pretty sure we can do it!

@@gamermapper Snapping upwards to a ungrabbable ledge when you're less than 50 units below it is a 100% intended mechanic built into the game by the developers, this is how walking up stairs works, you can't call that a "glitch".
@@gamermapper It's an exploit, not a glitch. The difference is that an exploit is an unexpected use of intended mechanics, whereas glitches use unintended mechanics.
*Fun fact:* In Super Mario N64, the coins are 2D sprites set to always face towards the camera! The same goes for Bowling Balls, Bob-Ombs, Bullies, trees, 1-ups... Even the number that appears when Mario touches a red coin is a 2D sprite facing towards the camera!
What is the minimal amount of coins for 100%, we will look at the "impossible" stars, and see how little amount of coins we can get, glitches are aloud. First off, there are twenty-three red coin stars, bringing our total to three hundred sixty-eight, and since there are fifteen one hundred coin stars, it brings our total to one thousand and eight hundred sixty-eight coins, that's a lot of nasty coins for a minimal coin run. For the star behind chain chomp, we can dodge that one red coin by using the bob-omb clip, easy. The star where you fly through circles of coins is a bit difficult, especially with the clunky wing-cap, but with enough precision, we get eight coins, bringing our total to eight thousand and eight hundred seventy-six coins. For the slide in Cool Cool Mountain, like Nico said, it takes a minimal of two coin to enter the slide, multiply by two, than that's four coins, bringing out total to eight thousand and eight hundred eighty coins. Now since we can do the red coins, the snowball star is accessible. For the finale star for Shifting Sand Land, we have to get eight coins to get into the pyramid, bringing our total to eight thousand and eight hundred eighty-eight coins, wow, four eights, four's half of eight, coincidence, I think not. In fact, our total is 8,888 coins, it's not a coin-cidence at all, I may have missed some problematic stars, but, I think we've got the estimate, really, the only problematic stars are the stars that require you to get coins, with Cool Cool Mountain being the exception, however, if we somehow find a way to clip into the loading zone, that would cut our total to the perfect amount 8,886 (I think Cool Cool Mountain wants the four eights), and no, there's no way to cut that perfect amount, because it's built up on stars that require coin collection, red coin stars give us 16, 100 coin stars give us, well you get that, and the 2 stars in Bob-omb Battle Field and Shifting Sand Land gives us 8 coins each.
@@benjaminw.1471 that painful to research though, you can't just search "How many red coin stars are in 64?", and get the result you wanted. Plus, I've kind of lost a bit of track writing this Article of a paragraph. Thanks for that, the math was a big headache. Wait, it's not 8,888, that's boring, that would've been a great not a coin-cidence on the Wall of Fame.
What would be required to ensure that on every level where one got any coins, one got exactly 256? Would that allow one to end the game with zero coins?
Mario: hey can i ground pound to release the chain chomp while your on it Red coin: are you doing coinless% Mario: yes... Red coin: then it is impossible for you to get the chain chomp star and you cant bomb clip because your doing a glitchless run
11:18 I just came from a Pannen video. The hitboxes for the activators are actually a bit above the coins so you can get another star. But you beat the game anyway so it doesn't matter that much.
"Impressive time of 20.6 seconds" "IS 20.9 SECONDS A JOKE TO YOU" I made this comment 4 years ago, I remember typing this, I wasn't even in high school yet, good times.
Yeah he already made the video. The only stars you can't get are the 100 coin stars and the red coin stars, with a small exception for the snowman's head star in Cool Cool Mountain (since, to access the star, you need to get the 8 red coin star).
I know the video is old, but just so any new people watching it know, at 11:20, the hitbox for the secrets is actually slightly above the one for the coin, so doing a well-timed kick midair can help you avoid the coin after grabbing the secret
Clearly the reason you beat Bowser so easily at the end was because you didn't have all those heavy coins weighing you down!

Is it possible to beat any mario games without having fun?

Ville Matikainen I don’t believe you fully understand the joke
*Fun fact:* In Super Mario N64, the coins are 2D sprites set to always face towards the camera! The same goes for Bowling Balls, Bob-Ombs, Bullies, trees, 1-ups... Even the number that appears when Mario touches a red coin is a 2D sprite facing towards the camera!
7:03
It is only then that I know it is "So long King Bowser" instead of "So long gay Bowser"
Your math is a bit off, it would be closer to 1900, not 8900, you added the eight to the beginning lol
@@flatfingertuning727 get your pen and paper, because this is going to be interesting.
sadly, its impossible to get 256 on jolly roger bay. cant even coin clone (from what i remember)
Mario: hey can i ground pound to release the chain chomp while your on it
Red coin: are you doing coinless%
Mario: yes...
Red coin: then it is impossible for you to get the chain chomp star and you cant bomb clip because your doing a glitchless run
And then Nico discovers that Pannenkoek already did this a few years back.

There's this thing called Accents.
It sounds like "Shifty" but his accent makes it sound like that.
