Wow! What a transformation!
Quite why anyone in their right mind would add paper labels to a new model… Never mind!
Fantastic refurbishment, Dan.
And doesn’t she look just the part running along the sea wall?
👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
:O When you turned the loco round to the damaged side my jaw dropped, and is STILL dropped lol. As you said why would anyone do that. Maybe to a Lima model but not to a modern Dapol which is easily over £100 depending on where you buy. What a plum...great job as always. I should have waited to the end :( That varnish disaster, gutted for you as well after the work. At the end it DOES look superb, so a victory
Took alot of work rescue that poor Western once completed it looks stunning.
What amazing patience you have.. Great job.
The Class 52 Western is my favourite diesel locomotive by a long way. I've just bought D1000 in maroon from Cheltenham Model Centre. Nameplates and numbers are already in place fortunately. I won't be modifying it!!
Marvelous renovation - your skills are wonderful & commentary was enjoyable (and funny). Thank you.
From the grave, a magnificent model. I've just subscribed just to see more of your efforts. Well done.
Keep up the great work on the restoration videos people would be Inspired to restore other locomotives.
What a brilliant job you made of that and definitely think the maroon paint job looks the part 👏🏻👏🏻
Incredible patience you have. Many a time ive dropped a screw or a part and consumed many minutes looking . It is a fantastic finish altho I only have 3 Heljan Westerns. Tips here are vital
Great work Dan that showed your determination to get the job done after some setbacks, brilliant results though and an entertaining watch keep up the good work.
Absolutely beautiful looking engine once again, the maroon with yellow bufferbeams is a pretty underrated livery and seeing that poor blue thing with the tacky paper superglue plates made me cringe really hard with this being such a detailed model 😂
Lovely finish, well done.
Wondered what had happened to that new western i evo sticked to death lol , fantastic effort and looking at the end result it definitely payed off , now wheres my evo stick and a new warship .
What a transformation and a superb video really helpful
Not my type of loco, but a fantastic job. Some great tips to take away and to put to use. Love the show’s format and commentary.
Excellent job!
Absolutely brilliant Dan 👏 I have learnt more about this hobby from your work than I care to remember, totally honest information that is crucial for amateur modelers like myself, we can't thank you enough 😊
Thanks for your kind comments. It is appreciated.
I have 3 westerns but yours looks great nice job
Cracking job Dan, shame about the varnish, which has helped me, as I am about to buy some. Won't be Humbrol now. 👍
Hi Dan. I hope you are well. Concerning losing those etched parts on the floor, could you not use a magnet on a stick, similar to the wartime use of mine detectors, to find the parts in question. Of course, this would only work if the parts were metallic. I’m not sure if brass is magnetic, lol. Just a thought. I usually get down close to the floor and try the ‘’up close and personal’’ approach. That seems to work a lot of the time. Anyway, excellent video and very informative.
Great video Dan 😊
Great job. Presentation superb. Great vid.
Astounding work.
The issues with Humbrol’s spray varnishes is a common one, but one only really had when using them with other brands of aerosols or if they’re old. When using their varnish over a HST painted with Halfords paint, I had similar frosting. When used on hand painted items, or even over primers - grey or red which I use for the main colour of various models - I’ve had little issue.
I have had issues with cans I’ve had for a few years so perhaps yours was past it’s best? Aerosols become seriously funny after time in storage!
Wonderful work considering the substantial setback however. Have always had a soft spot for the Plastikote stuff.
Thanks for your kind comments.
The can of gloss was brand new from the local model shop specially for this makeover. however how long since production and storage at Humbrol until it reached the shop i have no idea.
Good recovery twice,
Another brill vid fantastic 👍💯👍
Great stuff Dan, now fix that turntable
Funnily enough, the next video maybe turntable based!
humbrol products have been shite for years i once bought thier metalic red and it was pale lavender ,, gave all my humbrol away and changed to acrylics vallejo premium matt varnish is outstanding
in fact presently in europe including the UK humbrol enamels have been removed from the market
a modern release you mean as with them damages straight to preowned status
I have a medical condition and I'm not allowed to spray can you recommend a paint that I can use with just a brush . Humbrol enamel name is absolute rubbish as well
Tamia Acrylics are an excellent paint for brush painting etc
