Firstly apologies for the up & down sound quality during this episode, i am unsure why the voice over didn’t work quite correctly.
In this episode we look at a forlorn Hornby Tornado, sent in by a subscriber, it was a rebuild that threw a few curveballs along the way!

Hi Dan. Double ended motors are always a rarity that size.
However a simple fix would have been fit a single ended motor available for pennines, and leave off the flywheel. Cheers Gary
Increasingly hooked by your Trash to Track series. I’m watching out for Lucy’s next backdrop too! Interesting to compare your reconstruction with Barrie Davis’s video this week talking about derailments through uneven distribution of weight across the chassis. Couldn’t spot that problem with this one when you ran it.

exellent job you certainly got some patients i tend to like some of the older models cheaper and a bit easier to get parts the price of hornby new products soon be out of reach secondhand prices seem to be increasing as well but i cant justify nearly £200 for some models great to watch and good the way you describe the repair sound was ok soon came back

You should have replaced the glazing with krystal Klear, a pure pva material.
Because of the poor reputation of these motors, and the fact I have four Tornados, I bought a spare motor just in case. So far have not needed it.
I’ve got hundreds of those spare motors. And I don’t use those trash 3 pole motors I use 5 pole 😉 why do you use a 9v battery? Do you not have a dc controller?
Do the motors you have, have the fly wheel attached? I use a 9V motor as its more convenient than having the wires of my DC controller laying across the bench.
Hi. The motors I buy Are Hornby part number X6576. These are a drop in replacement and have 5 poles and are skew wound with very strong magnets. These have worms on both sides. But I take the worms off and put whatever is needed like a flywheel or worm. And I w done this with my duke of glouster, p2, flying Scotsman, tornado and many others.
Got an old hornby Terrier loco which used to run very well but the commutator is jammed. I'll email ya the details if your interested.
