How To Increase/Boost Weak WiFi Signal IP Camera & NVR | Antenna Range Extender Repeater IPC Router

  • With the advanced of technology, WiFi or wireless security cameras have becoming increasingly popular over wired systems. The downside to a wired system are complexity of installation, flexibility and portability.
Wired IP Cams, such as PoE (power over Ethernet) and hard-wired analog cameras, need wires for video transmission and power supply. They typically use Cat 5/6 Ethernet cables to communicate with home network router or NVR (Network Video Recorder). Traditional hard-wired security cams need 2 cables, one for power and coaxial connecting to the DVR (Digital) for data.
We bought this 8-channel NVR video security camera system from Amazon.com:
    Link to buy: amzn.to/2EPeOzs
Alternative to wired and wireless is a wire-free system. Wire-free IP cameras are the most flexible, easy to install, can be mounted almost anywhere making them the ideal choice for apartment renters or homeowners. Battery technology such as in Blink XT2, the best in indoor/outdoor 2-way IP Cam, could last up to 2 years. Blink XT systems also works with FireTV and Amazon-Alexa for hi-tech home automation.
Unfortunately, the major downside to the wireless IP Cam systems is interference with competing signals and overlapping broadcasts from devices on the same bandwidth , making them less reliable. Wireless signal strength, or scope of coverage, is tied to factors such as router, amount of interference presence, the distance and the barriers. Buildings, structures, trees, walls, floor or metal barriers between the camera and wireless router could magnify connection issues.
However, there are several ways or methods in which you can boost, increase or extend the weak or poor WiFi signals of your IP smart camera and/or wireless NVRs. In this video, Aiman will explain several ways in which you can improve the WiFi transmission of your bullet, PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom), dome, miniature or spy IP cameras. Obviously the first step especially if you IP Cams keep dropping off from the network is to test you home WiFi signals. This methods would also eliminate error codes such as "IPC Disconnect", "Too Much Connection", "Network Unreachable", and others.
There also also many products and devices on the market you could buy in order to increase the range, extend the distance and achieve maximum coverage of your CCTV system. They can be purchased from Amazon, AliExpress, BangGood.com and more. The first we reviewed is antenna range extender.
    1) Antenna Range Extender: These spiral wired simple directional antennas usually come with RP-SMA Female to Male connectors along with cables but you can always purchase additional cable with different length, some also have magnetic base.
    2) High Gain Antenna: Some of these omni-directional antennas are Dual Band WiFi 2.4GHz 5GHz 5.8GHz with high dBi gain from 3 to 10 decibels. But keep in mind most WiFi cameras operates on a 2.4GHz frequency. These are perfect for Wireless Network Router, Access Point, USB Adapter and PCI Adapter rather than for IP Camera WiFi Range Extender.
    3) Dedicated Wi-Fi Repeaters: A wireless repeater is a range-extending device that works with your existing router to forward the signal farther. Place the repeater within range of your router and point it in the direction of the wireless camera. These dedicated Wi-Fi repeaters are essentially an IPC router designed to be easily matched with your NVR and WiFi cameras for a simple plug-and-play.
    4) Using IP Cam Built-In Repeater: You can use software manager on your NVR to program the cameras to create a daisy-chain to extend the signal of the weaker camera via the closer one to the NVR. This method hasn't work for us because it resulted in "too much connection" error code, which we will cover in a separate video, so check that out.
Other ways to do it: Adjust the antenna, relocate the router or NVR, use old router to create a bridge and many other methods we will cover in future videos. Watch our previous videos here:

    Hi.
I don't have a network cable near the camera. Can I plug the camera's network cable in a wireless range extender so I can cast it trough my wireless router to my phone/pc?

There's another way. Use a directional antenna. I made a yagi for 2.4GHz and it works but it's on the end of an 8m coax and it's also hard to aim as there's a concrete floor between antenna and receiver. How do get around this?

I found that 3 Meters of coax cable ends up with only 1DBI gain over the stock attached antenna. The coax cable has asignal loss of about.25db per meter. So any gain from a 9dbi antenna, at 2.4ghz is lost in the transmission line. it is better to get a higher gain antenna that connects directly to the camera. Good video though. I discovered that there is that much signal loss in the coax cable at that high of a frequency.

His explanation showing step by step was good. I have a kit with 8 cameras and I use this same application and would like to know how to set up to listen to the audio because I can not hear. I have 7 cameras fitted and a single via Wi-Fi and at the moment it is only working the cable and the one that is via Wi-Fi does not work and the message is saying 'unreachable network, what should I do to correct the problem so that it comes back function. if you can help me I thank you from the heart.

Hello. Good boy.! I tried your advice and I am fine. The extender works well but I think I would gain a lot if the extender is installed outside because it communicates with difficult and external cameras, without having the wall as an obstacle. And then the extender connected to the NVR with the lan cable (not wifi). But 1 question: are there outdoor extenders? 2) if I connect the extender to the NVR via cable, do I not lose the ability to view the NVR from a smartphone because the LAN port of the NVR is busy? my system is Annke

You might need to remove any obstacle between the NVR and the camera; if that isn't possible, either use a repeater or a stronger antenna.
