  • In this video we will show you how to set up, add, connect, configure and match a dedicated WiFi repeater or an IPC Router to your ONVIF NVR in order to extend the range, improve, boost and increase the strength of the wireless signal for your IP Smart Camera & CCTV system. This unit allows you to connect the system using the Air Bridge technology and also designed to make wired camera wireless. You can use the built-in repeater in WiFi Camera but dedicated IPC router provides better stable connection and avoid "Too Much Connection" error.
There are also other methods to solve "out-of-range", IPC disconnect or poor signal which we have discuss in our previous videos. Click on the following playlist to watch them:
    • How To Open PTZ Dome W...
With the advanced of technology, WiFi or wireless security cameras have become increasingly popular over wired systems. The downside to a wired system are complexity of installation, flexibility and portability.
We bought this 8-Ch DVR kit from Hiseeu Store on Amazon.com. Here's the link to buy: amzn.to/2EPeOzs.
Wired IP Cams, such as PoE (power over Ethernet) and hard-wired analog cameras, need wires for video transmission and power supply. They typically use Cat e5/6/7 Ethernet cables to communicate with home network router or ONVIF NVR (Network Video Recorder). Traditional systems need 2 cables, one for power and coaxial connecting to the DVR (Digital) for data.
Alternative to wired and wireless is a wire-free system. Wire-free IP cameras are the most flexible, easy to install, can be mounted almost anywhere making them the ideal choice for apartment renters or homeowners. Battery technology such as in Blink XT2, the best in indoor/outdoor 2-way IP Cam, could last up to 2 years. Blink XT systems also works with FireTV and Amazon-Alexa for hi-tech home automation.
The major downside to the wireless IP Cam systems is interference with competing signals and overlapping broadcasts from devices on the same bandwidth , making them less reliable. Wireless signal strength, or scope of coverage, is tied to factors such as router, amount of interference presence, the distance and the barriers. Buildings, structures, trees, walls, floor or metal barriers between the camera and wireless router could magnify connection issues.
However, there are several ways or methods in which you can boost, increase or extend the weak or poor WiFi signals and improve the transmissions of your IP smart camera -- bullet, PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom), dome, box, miniature or spy IP cameras -- to the NVRs. If you IP Cams keep dropping off from the network, the first thing to do is to test you home WiFi signals.
There also also many products and devices on the market you could buy in order to increase the range, extend the distance and achieve maximum coverage of your CCTV system. They can be purchased from Amazon, AliExpress, BangGood.com and more.
    1) Antenna Range Extender: These spiral wired simple directional antennas usually come with RP-SMA Female to Male connectors along with cables but you can always purchase additional cable with different length but be mindful that signal lost will occur over longer cable. Some also have magnetic base.
    2) High Gain Antenna: Some of these omni-directional antennas are Dual Band WiFi 2.4GHz 5GHz 5.8GHz with high dBi gain from 3 to 10 decibels. But keep in mind most WiFi cameras operates on a 2.4GHz frequency. These are perfect for Wireless Network Router, Access Point, USB Adapter and PCI Adapter rather than for IP Camera WiFi Range Extender.
    3) Dedicated Wi-Fi Repeaters: A wireless repeater is a range-extending device that works with your existing router to forward the signal farther. Place the repeater within range of your router and point it in the direction of the wireless camera. These dedicated Wi-Fi repeaters are essentially IPC router designed to be easily matched with your NVR and WiFi cameras for a simple plug-and-play.
    4) Using IP Cam Built-In Repeater: You can use software manager on your NVR to program the cameras to create a daisy-chain to extend the signal of the weaker camera via the closer one to the NVR. This method hasn't work for us because it resulted in "too much connection" error code.
Other ways to do it: Adjust the antenna, relocate the router or NVR, use old router to create a bridge and many other methods we will cover in future videos.
We have an Hiseeu system featuring 8-Channel ONVIF NVR 1080p 1TB HDD IR66 Day/Night Infrared capabilities but there are other popular brands such as Armcrest, Hikvision, OOSSXX, NightOwl, Swan, CamView, HeimVision, SafeVant, SMONET, Blink XT2, ZOSI, ANNKE, LOREX, Reolink, ONWOTE, GW PoE, EZVIZ, Anlapus, Arlo Pro, Wyze, Canary, Ring Spotlight, Reolink, Google Nest and more.

For those of you still interested in having 4 cameras connected to the repeater. Delete all cameras (Max 4) that you want to connect to the repeater from the NVR. Press the reset button on all including the repeater. Go to match code on the nvr. The DHCP will automatically kick in on the repeater whilst scanning. The channels will be allocated using 192.168.1.xxx IPs as opposed to 172.20.14.xxx IPs. After this if you check in the repeater settings you will see all 4 connected. These NVR's are hard work I know 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thank you so much , life saver !
On my instructions it only shows how to add them individually connecting each cam to the NVR by cable, but the two cams I have connection issues with are not easy accessible , with your help I connected them both to the extender, unfortunately even then one kept having issues, so as you said each cam is a repeater in itself I used another cam nearer than the router and nvr as it’s own extender and now it’s all running perfectly and will be getting some extra cameras without having to worry about range.

Hi Aiman! Do you know where I can find help on the repeater? When I plug it in with the ethernet cable, the NVR does not recognize it. It doesn't show up on the "Video Manage" screen, and I tried pressing the reset button for different time lengths, I got a voice to say "Matching codes" a couple of times, I pressed match code on the screen and nothing; other times I got "Reset to factory settings" and got nothing different afterward. Any link or idea to test will be very appreciated, thanks!

Thank you so much for sharing all of this information. I did try going into the repeater menu before purchasing a repeater and discovered that I could use existing cameras to help as a repeater. I realize it may pull down the signal strength from the closer one. I was able to improve my furthest camera signal strength from 18 to 33 by doing this.

I'm trying to set up the Repeater mode but I don't have the (Refresh) option on my screen. Do I need some kind of software up-date or do you think they sent me an out dated system ? Thanks for your help :)

Hi my name is Temidayo am a Nigerian. You got lovely n helpful videos n I hope to see more of same.
I need ur guide with my wireless cctv setup. I bought a wireless 8 channel Nvr using 8 wireless ip cams with no physical LAN ports to plug in any cable, is got just power port for 12v dc. The set-up was pretty direct until when 2 cameras were out of d wireless Nvr Wi-Fi signal range. Plus the Nvr doesn't ve a repeater feature under video settings.
To resolve this I want 2 use my Tp-link TL-MR3240 router as d Nvr's reporter but this is were I've gotten stuck n do need ur help with.
The routers ip addy is 192.168.0.1,
    Nvr basic ip: 192.168.0.90
    Gway: 192.168.0.1
    Pri. Dns: 192.168.0.1
    Nvr ntwrk ip: 172.20.19.3
    Gway: 172.20.19.1
All ip cams ip are: 172.20.19.xxx
So how do I connect the router so as to extend the Nvr to the 2 ip cams presently out of range n also boost signal to any around it too.

  • @davidh4941

good video, thanks. My setup is in a large warehouse using the same system you have in the video (8 wireless cameras), we were getting low signals to most cameras and after installing 2 extenders we are still having issues. Can a wireless camera be connected to CAT5/6 Ethernet cable and run as a wired camera? Typically the network port on the camera is used for configuring. My thought is to have a network switch that the NVR connects to, to provide its network access, then connect a cable from that switch to the camera. Will the NVR "see" the camera and use the wired connection?
My other question is, we have an existing wireless network in the building that provides much better coverage than the NVR, can the NVR and cameras use that wireless network instead of using the NVR signal?

    • @mgknair6978
      @mgknair6978 4 года назад

I think WiFi Camera system will not work with wired facility using Cat5/Cat6 &.switch etc as you mentioned especially because the supplied NVR is not designed for that sort of configuration. You will have to employ signal boosting devices and the best and cheap will be if used the Antenna with wire.

Ok I thought this might be a helpful video but I was more confused after just watching 1/2 of the video. I think your smart enough to do the job but you need to edit your video better. After clicking on several items you had a bunch of failures or ppp up messages that you couldnt explain and never tell someone to buy a cheaper product when the one you got wasnt worth the money you paid for it. Also say to buy a knoen good brand and do research on it to find out how good a product it is. This should of been a 3 min video but you lost me after the first 2. Re-edit this and skip all the issues and go as if everything worked the first time. Then at the end you can explain what to do if an issue or failure pops up. But on the right track so dont give up!

Completely useless video. You never discussed the range increase that was achieved. You never tested the distance. You don't explain whether that thing can be outdoor or indoor. You also don't talk about whether it needs its own wifi account with a provider.
