Such a useful piece :) I am in similar (if less well heeled :O) shoes, in that I have oceans of things to sell to facilitate the notion of floating away to Madeira or the Azores. So having some been-there-done-that advice on how to go about it was very welcome.
Some things will be very hard to let go as they are things much loved by my late wife and I am sure that there will be some tears along the way as she was a collector (not to be confused with a hoarder :)) so there are some things that have been on prominent display in our house for decades. But I can almost hear her voice in my head telling me it is time to let it all go now, that if I keep even some of those meaningful things I will always be looking back rather than, as I promised her I would, getting on with *living* my life.
Indeed, this whole idea of moving to another country is the fulfilment of another promise to do something exciting and out of the ordinary in these last couple of decades that we call "Retirement". We were going to retire to New Zealand but I think going to there would be as bad in terms of the not 'letting go' as keeping some of her beloved possessions. And with the barriers that Brexit has put in all of our paths, Portugal's visa friendliness (bureaucratic minefields notwithstanding :D) is proving a strong pull. I shall have to D7 it rather than Gold but it seems a realistic objective.

I am in the process of getting rid of everything now. I don't have a house to sell so that will make things easier when I move abroad. Finding an apartment for the D7 Visa will be my toughest challenge.
