- RENOVATION of abandoned house in MADEIRA, Portugal. Part 4. What do we find when we get home? Our first visitors come to stay!
The annexe was finished enough for us to live in. Our first guests were arriving any day. We take delivery of our possessions. We see progress with the renovations in the main house. We share an important tip for anyone taking on a renovation project in an area of Urban Rehabilitation. We enjoy time visiting some beautiful places Madeira has to offer.

I started 2022 in Coimbra, and 2023 in Funchal with the fireworks. In nine days Madeira captured my heart. I´m a widower from Argentina since 2017, but with an EU passport. I was dreaming about Portugal since 2018. In 2021 I managed the leap. I started 2022 in Coimbra as an NHR. I had to go to Argentina in Nov-Dec 22, but my goal was to start 2023 seing the fireworks in Funchal. Well, I made it the 31th of December at 9 pm. The first night was for oblivion, but the next week in Santa Cruz was wonderful. The airport, Santa Cruz, Funchal, Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol. and the last day Monte, its wonderful church & the cable car. I´m an old guy with a very special story. I lived nearly everywhere in a lot of continents, even in Teignmouth in Devon to improve my english at school in Hamburg. As you see languages are not my trouble. Without any doubt I can tell you that Madeira is heaven on earth. Winston Churchill wrote his memoires there. I´ll return soon ¿February?. Cabo Girao is on my wish list. At first I´ll live in Funchal, near to one of the three mayor shoppings. I hope we¨ll meet soon. My congrats for the drone filmings. ¡Thanks! 😀
How absolutely perfect and inspiring 🌻
Thank you so much!
Hello. Love your videos. Hopefully at the end of this project you could give a cost breakdown?
I mean , of the images of your house in Ponta Delgada.
Stunning view. This will be amazing when finished.
Thank you for sharing the renovation project of your dream home. I am planning an exploratory trip to Madeira for February or March. I’ve been looking at property to buy and see many old homes that require renovating. I was unsure it could be done until I saw your project. I still don’t know if it’s financially attainable. I hope you share the costs from the architect to contractors. Thank you!!!
Looking at this drone . You are neighbours with my friends 😊
Yes I believe we are! Hope you are enjoying the videos 😊
@@ourbrightjourney I most definitely am ! I think you are amazing and brave to take on such a challenge and I don’t mean the neighbours 😉 😁 Moving to a new culture and language and the construction work. I’m sure you will be very happy there.Especially as you enjoy the milder winter days and a drink of poncha 🍷☺️The house is coming on beautifully and you have an amazing views of sea and mountains and the rolling waves that never seem to rest. Fond memories ☺️. May it continue to go well for you both and take care.xx
It is good to see all the progress that the renovation of the house has had, it is turning out spectacular, and that beautiful sunset from your terrace, that was the best investment that you made to spend your life in Madeira, a big hug... by the way my ancestors are from Ponta do Sol, when you can visit Ponta do Sol, a hug from Venezuela South America...
OMG guys! Thanks for sharing your journey, it is really fun to watch. You are so brave for taking such an endeavor. Wow!
Please upload a new video, I'm (we all are) looking forward to see the full transformation.
Next video coming on Sunday! ruclips.net/video/23-_g6NCIGA/видео.html
Literally can’t wait to see how it looks now. I definitely enjoyed your videos. We bought in Calheta with small renovations, but Jesus the stress 😅 your place is so so dreamy, the view 🥰
We're moving there in March. Not looking forward to the renovation 😃
Have you exceeded the Golden Visa investment yet? Will the build be completed as you do?
Hi Dennis when investing in Real Estate for the Golden Visa you have to submit the paperwork to show the amount invested with your application. In our case because it was a renovation property we had to submit our builders quote along with the purchase price to show eligibility and the payments going to the builder throughout the renovation have to equal or exceed the amount quoted.
@@ourbrightjourney Thanks no one has ever made that clear to me before. How do you determine if the builder will come in under or over budget? I like the renovation limits but did not want to exceed them so much that I should just go to Golden Visa at $500k approach to avoid the stress of a build.
@@ourbrightjourney One last thing. I admire the fact that, unlike many of the Madeira bloggers, you are actually building something and not just talking about how it's done. I get weary of the one-year or less posters whom suddenly become experts in Portuguese investments without ever having made an investment in Portugal nor even owned real property in their native country.
With the renovation option you have to invest 350000 euros so you will provide proof of the purchase price and the proof of the renovation costs. The renovation costs are shown by the money from your Portuguese bank account to the builder's bank account. The first payment has to be made before the GV application is submitted. If the build costs go over the quote then that is fine because you have met the requirements. If your builder miraculously comes in under budget then you would have to ask him to do something else to make the money paid to him equal or exceed the total 350000 euro minimum investment required for the GV. We talked the other day about if we did it again would we do the 5000000 euros option but we looked at properties for that amount and would have needed to spend money on them to make them fit our needs. Our budget did not lend to this so we had to go the renovation route if we wanted our dream home. Hope that helps.
Thank you for your kind words. We have plans for so many videos to share information about the process that we discovered along the way but we want to get our renovations videos out first and I only have so much time to edit the videos and make them suitable viewing!
