    I'm so glad I'm not the only one who likes giving Yuri gauntlets, I like making him into War Monk.
    Quad punching, Fistfaire and Honourable Spirit can deal a lot of damage together.
    The reason I prefer War Monk over Grappler is because it has a lower Brawl requirement, plus having magic on standby is handy against Armoured Knights or for backup healing.

    Hey! This was an excellent analysis, however as someone who's used Yuri on every single route since the DLC's released, I'd like to add something:
    As a class that is favorable towards those who are proficient in Swords, Authority, Reason and Faith, Yuri fits perfectly into this niche. His 50% Charm stat and high base Charm also meshes extremely well.
    In my opinion, Yuri is by far the best unit in the game for the Dancer class, mainly thanks to his Hero's Relic, Fetters of Dromi. With Aegis and Pavise, he also gains +1 Movement and Canto, which couldn't be more ideal for a Dancer. Once the Dancer class is obtained, he also gains access to Sword Avo +20, which is incredible for him as he has the highest Speed in the game and Swords are usually his primary weapon. Sword Dance isn't necessarily a game-changer, but its might scaling with Charm means that he can pack quite the punch.
    This lets Yuri utilize his spell list, and unlike in most classes, it is a boon, not a weakness. The available magic classes suit him extremely poorly, but in the Dancer class, he becomes a backup mage and healer. By focusing more on his utility, he becomes so much better.
    This also solves his endgame issues, which is perhaps the most glaring flaw of Yuri's. Also, he's sexy af. He's sexier when he's in his Dancer outfit.
    MAKE HIM A DANCER! Or a Wyvern Lord if you're NG+ (hell even in NG). He's amazing as a Wyvern Lord.

    Yuri is easily one of my top 3 units in 3H. His voice lines are incredible, his attitude is brilliant to witness, and his contribution is high tier at worst. I've recently tried putting him into bows, basically forcing a sniper endgame class with march/accuracy rings for Deadeye picks and mobility on CF, and he still makes monstrous contributions with close counter to murder things. Also good user of a magic bow, as his growth rates aren't horrendous.
    Oh. And he's hot. Best character.

  • @derpygoomy4155
    @derpygoomy4155 Год назад +19

    Honestly Yuri is one of the many cases in 3h where he would really appreciate classes not being gender-locked. He would love darting blow esp if he is going for a wyvern build. Also I think magic Yuri is underrated, as with magic +2 and fiendish blow his high speed and low speel weight will allow him to one round a majority of enemies via doubling, which most mages cannot achieve due to their low strength weighing them down when they use their spells. He prob would be better than dark flier Ingrid if he had access to that class. Unfortunate for him.

    • @calliope-greii
      @calliope-greii Месяц назад +1

      The more I examine 3h it really just seems like gender locking is a flat out failure in game design. Fates introduced male pegasus knights, and literally nobody disliked it, only for them to introduce the most egregious gender locking in the series in the entry following. So many 3h units would love to be in a class that they simply can’t get into. It doesn’t even work from a worldbuilding perspective, as there are no social structures in Fodlan that prevent women from becoming knights or warriors nor men from becoming mages that use multiple types of magic (until said structures magically appear in Ingrid’s support conversations because they need an arbitrary thing for Felix to be mad at her for)

  • @OperaQueen85
    @OperaQueen85 Год назад +8

    I did a magic only run and Yuri was surprisingly good because of his speed. Excalibur was also clutch on the Nader map since I had no bows. But physical is probably the way to go in regular play.

  • @rattyxoxo7397
    @rattyxoxo7397 Год назад +6

    I could also imagine (though I haven’t tried it) that he could work well as a mixed offense Mortal Savant. His boons line up perfectly to allow him to get Mortal Savant with Archer for Hit+20 and easy access to his utility faith pool, while he also gets easy Vantage which can pair well with Nosferatu to make some enemy phase plays in the mid stages of White Clouds. He can go Monk for Magic+2 and gain levels via healing and the occasional kill, then stay mostly in physical intermediate classes like Mercenary or Thief while dipping into Mage on maps with a lot of low-Res enemies to grind towards Fiendish Blow mastery in the intermediate stage, then certify for Warlock to get the base 17 magic. From here, he can flex between Warlock, Trickster, Assassin etc. to take advantage of different aspects of his kit depending on the map, then promote into Mortal Savant and pick up the Levin Sword. His fantastic speed should allow him to double, and the lower enemy Res with Fiendish Blow and Swordfaire allows him good kill opportunities while also retaining Swordfaire-powered attacks with physical swords to pick off high-Res targets, on top of supplying healing, chip magic and both physical and magic flier effective targeting with his Bow rank and Excalibur. A similar thing can be done with Ignatz, and while it’s certainly not the best class for either, I do think it’s a viable class option if wanting to try out a different route for these characters.

      Yuri was an absolute carry for the whole azure moon maddening run. I basically used the self imposed rules of your interesting builds playthrough. Went archer-brigand--assasin-mortal savant. His speed had him doubling for most of the journey, and he was a crit machine and a half deacent dodge tank.

      Also wanted to mention byleth is a hilariously strong trickster because of his budding talent ability, and I found it ends up slotting in perfectly for that transition towards byleth's unique class and keeping male byleth relevant through the middle of the game.

    - Brawl Prowess 5

    With a base speed of 50, he had around 120+ avoid, which is plenty for the enemies on that final map. If NG+, I’d also train him in flying for Alert Stance+ to make him untouchable

    There is always the option for player phase war master because he is not weighed down by a heavy brave weapon. Getting the Axe rank to C+ to gamble isn't much of an issue either when it's already at D+ for death blow.

    The ultimate challenge run unit, the second you start deviating from the normal gameplay loop his disadvantaged state matter less. He is argueably the unit that takes the least advantage from tutoring and the second you start deviating, his boons and banes become advantages with one of the easiest certs into assassin.

    One thing I like to do with Yuri is recruit him in chapter 6. He joins with 19 speed and thief class, then he can steal the 2 magic staves in that map. also in chapter 7 with a rally speed or hitting the enemy lords with seal speed he can steal a accuracy and evasion ring.

    I disagree about Battalion Vantage not being relevant. I have found Yuri to have a really nice progression into a late game enemy phase unit.
    If you focus on Axes and dabble in swords (windsweep), bows (archer) and Brawling you can get a game flow like this:
    Early on you go Fighter (Weapon Experience and Str+2) or Myrmidon (for the extra sword experience for earlier windsweep and Speed +2 for doubling) while you work on bows and axes. You then transition to Archer while you work on axes and sword. You then transition to Brigand while you work on Brawling and Swords/Axes (depends how soon you hit C+ Swords for windsweep). All of this setup allows you to benefit from Yuri’s strong early game without sacrificing his long term growth. Once you hit Level 20 you transition into Assassin (very easy cert with C+ swords and dabbling in bows) while you work on Axes and Brawling. Assassin is a really nice parking spot for Yuri for a long time as it makes his speed and dex growth insane and it has great movement, solid windsweep damage and then stealth and his personal ability go together nicely too. At level 30 you transition to War Master and give Yuri a Wo Dao and Battalion Desperation. Yuri’s Authority boons makes it easy for him to naturally get Battalion Vantage and a 15 Crit Battalion, which puts him at 75 crit base, and if you include his high Luck Growth and the insane Dex growth as an Assassin he will be at 100 Crit against most targets and with guaranteed vantage (Lethality from Assassin also rolls separately from Crits, so it kind of push these percentages in its own way too). You can also give him a killer bow to enemy phase ranged attacks if you don’t have a retribution gambit handy.
    This path allows you to take advantage of Yuri’s strengths at every part of the game and end up with a really potent enemy and player phase unit.

    I think for Yuri this would be quite helpful considering his personal skill means he's often away from backup and he also has low defenses. This combines well with his crest and speed makes it viable for him to be on his own despite having quite low defense. I think as a dancer with sword avoid +20 he could also be quite useful.

    Like as cool as Mortal Savant is and feels like it has characters talor-made for it like Yuri, Felix, Anna ends up a bit underwhelming or gets beaten by sniper thanks to less investment, and higher kill power with hunter's volley

      @danielgrotz6599 Год назад +1

      I would only recommend trickster if you don't want to invest in Yuri and if thunderbrand isn't being used by another unit. In this rather specific scenario trickster is actually pretty good; thunderbrand will kill most things without swordfaire. The limited move is the main downside.

    • @danielgrotz6599
      @danielgrotz6599 Год назад +1

      Sniper is definitely good, maybe better than grappler. In my experience Yuri doesn't usually need the safety of the range because he has great avo and never gets doubled; he's even safer if you give him fetters. As a sniper you only double things whereas grappler Yuri generally quadruples, and rarely takes hits on player phase because of the two chances to proc aubin. But admittedly the extra damage from quadrupling mostly matters against monsters which generally aren't too problematic in three houses
