the hype around this examination is in the number of students appearing vs the number of seats in total, for a general category aspirant getting into an IIT is a big achievement because of the competition and this is the reason why i have a lot of admiration for those who are able to get through, but because 99.9% of us are not gonna be able to get into it so there's no sense of being depressed about it either, life can definitely be better for a person who didn't study in IIT than an IIT graduate, so we can be hopeful always!

I think the main problem with our system is that we perceive certain skills to be 'much better' than others. If we were to randomly ask students which profession they would want to choose for themselves, most of them would choose from engineering, medicine, legal practice, chartered accountancy, civil services, etc. There is nothing wrong with these careers. The problem lies in the fact that students are opting for these professions not because of their genuine interests in these fields, but because they feel that other fields are not even an option. Naturally, if you get into a field in which you are not genuinely interested, and on top of that, if you see that as the only means to improve your life, then mediocrity and frustration is natural. One cannot deliver anything in such a situation, be it an IITian or a non-IITian.

I feel that people who haven't gotten into IITs should not be disappointed, because think it like this way . Our population is huge and no of IIT seats are 1% approximately, so who just can't enter a college narrowly, must know one thing that luck didn't favour you but you have definitely worked hard. Just do the same amount of hard work in other institution you are choosing, nobody can stop you from being successful. Success has many aspects and many a times those who are roughed hard by life end up at the most suitable positions. Telling from life experience.

Eventually, Brain also behaves like a muscle. Preparing for IIT helps you in working out your brain. I think that helps a lot in the future whether you get into IITs or not. Even UPSC exam, right now focuses a lot on analytical skills, which makes it easier for engineers to crack it. As a 30 year old, my advice is to give your all in JEE preparation, whether you make it or not, it will help you a lot later in life. And if you make it, IITs provide a lot of freedom and infra to students compared to any other college in India. Things about social and emotional skills might be true, but you will learn them quickly once you get out of college and might even get better at it than most people.

Bruh that is an extreme schedule tho I had a somewhat similar schedule too. When I was in 11th-12th as a science student I was studying in this coaching class. Now at the time I didn't knew what was that coaching institution for just that their initial lectures were good, surrounding around basics so I liked the teaching staff there & so I opted for the class. Until I realized that they were taking too much time of my day. My college was from 7:20AM-12:00PM even then I had practicals 3 days a week so my college then would be finished around 1:00 PM. I had class right afterwards at 2:30PM & I was coming home at around 6-6:30PM. I actually didn't wanted to prepare for entrances at all tbh but I didn't knew they were going to include the entrances fees in my total too. Now since I paid for it I had to attend those JEE/NEET lectures. Even then we had some extreme topper students who'd attend both JEE/NEET lectures. I opted for NEET as my maths wasn't that good, but turns out I lack the whole base for physics & chemistry from academic times (8th onwards) itself. Then in the end I didn't applied for neet I ended up applying to MH-CET (state level entrance). Back then I felt giving those exams was useless until now when I look back, I atleast saw how they conduct exams, how they ask questions etc. Most people around me were serious so I was under pressure but even then some strong souls were there, giving these entrances just to experience" I think that is indeed important. Tbh I took science due to my parent's pressure, even now i was pressured to continue science & now I'm stuck in Bsc but I did realize one thing- your mental peace is important. Whether you're an arts student or commerce, pick a stream you like, work on your skills there & better learn how handle your failures. I wasn't used to the schedule mentioned above so I scored 57% in my 12th boards. I was honestly very disappointed & felt useless (still do sometimes) until now when I'm doing my degree. I honestly don't have any perticular interests in this field but tbh I'm glad I can atleast study in peace & not under pressure

I can speak for the education part in Physics dept:
Almost every prof is very good in their research area. However, it is not often the case that they are also good at teaching. In fact, majority of students don't wanna attend classes because its often the case that the content is way too rigorous (often the case in physics). Also, due to so many years of experience in their fields, profs assume we know certain things, hence while teaching such rigourous stuff they often skip some imp. concepts.
However, excellent profs do exist. These are pure legends and you wouldn't wanna a single class. So, overall its like any generic case (with very less spoon feeding).
For the comment that "since research is good we would be taught latest stuff"....
Nooooo, this is not necessarily true. A standard curriculum is followed for any course. So, its kinda like monotonous. If you wanna know latest stuff, you have to go out of your way to ask the prof how the things that are taught are related to the latest research.

there have been many people who have never been to IIT or any top universities or colleges. Forget top colleges, some didn't even do graduation but have been guest speakers in IITs and IIMs. So we all have a scope. We all can learn things from the outside of these institutes as well, especially in today's times when internet has revealed everything to us. Main thing is to gather skills because knowledge alone can be ignored but skill is something we use to execute our knowledge in reality and create a tangible outcome.
We must also remember Eklavya who never got great teachers, mentors and Gurukul and learned himself and still beat Arjun who had received best of the everything. If Eklavya without any resources can do this, why can't we do with the help of almost all resources?

I have been through depression during my college days may be I was not confident enough, I dint had friends , no one was talking with me in the college I really don't know the reason but when I passed out I learned so many things with built my personality and I was able improve on my weakness. Today after 8 years working experience I am really doing so well in my life. Not only in terms of salary but also a good profile which I always admire of. Mera beta IITian banega" is a phrase you often hear in Indian households. The dream of becoming an IITian is ingrained in the minds of many Indian students and their families. The IIT brand is seen as a beacon of hope, a ticket to upward mobility and social status. Students spend years pouring over textbooks, sacrificing their social lives, and attending coaching centers in pursuit of this dream. But do the Indian Institutes of Technology truly deliver on these aspirations? Are they really that different from other engineering colleges in India?
In this video, we take a closer look at the quality of IITs and explore whether the "IIT brand" is just hype or if it can truly be justified. We'll dive into the facts and figures, and ask the question on everyone's mind - is the IIT dream worth the sacrifices?
