Not exactly true. There is an ORIGINAL member of the group still alive. George T Babbitt. If you were to meet him you had better salute him too! In 1998 George played drums with the Ventures just before his retirement.
I played in a surf band "Tidal Wave" years ago, we played a lot of the Ventures music,,So Fun, Everyone danced and had a Great Time....TW is still going ,over 30 Year's!
The original Ventures, Bob B. Don W. Nokie E.and the ever hard hitting drummer Mel T. May you all rest in peace. You may have gone but your memories and music stay.
@@jeffreymcfadden9403As far as I understand there is no clear ”original drummer”. In the beginning they used whoever was free at the moment for their recordings, and live performances, and the first one who stayed with them for a longer period was Howie Johnson, so I guess he is the closest one to be called their original drummer.
Absolutely love The Ventures. Still have many of their original records from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Best ever instrumental band to come out of the U.S.. I used to play some of their hits on electric guitar back in the 90s. Love their unique style. A fan till the day I die..
Nickie Edwards was simply amazing. He inspired so many youngsters like me to try our hand at the guitar. Too bad he never got the recognition he deserved.
He was indeed great. True, he isn't widely recognized as one of the greatest, but so many who are recognized as such are often wildly overrated (I won't mention names, but I'll say this, for every fabricated "king of blues/rock" there are a dozen amazing true artists under the radar). So I'm fine with knowing and loving him for all these years, without him having a spot on some Rolling Stone list etc.
I was born in 80 and this was def my parents music. Even through the 90s and all the retro stuff over the years, I never came around to it. But for some reason today at 43 years old I just decided to do a ventures dive and man, it is impossible to not feel happy while listening to these guys. I'm also a guitar player and maybe I'm just coming around to more of the cleaner tone stuff (definitely a metal and hard rock guy), but purely from a guitar standpoint, this is as classic as guitar tone gets.
The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame was created for musicians of this caliber & it's a shame it's become a joke because it was not meant to be . I was lucky as hell to have seen The Ventures with Nokie in the 70s & they were the reason we need the hall to chuck out the schmucks that don't belong there & there are so many that need to be in the trash heap. These guys were legends & will always be. So many of us that play owe them so much .
In my mid fifties now and grew up listening to these guys. My father has every album they ever released and knew the band. He has every album signed by all 4 members. I still remember dad with his Fender playing all these songs. Some of the best times of my childhood.
Ventures Number One 1. The Shadows 2. Both are my favorites, Ventures will never go out of style. Solo nos queda recordar con sus Videos Saludos desde Culiacán Mex🎉❤. P.S.. By the way, Nokie, whom I admire as the best guitarist of his time. It was a great success that he went from the bass instrument to the guitar.
Thank God someone had the sense to film this! There has never been a band like The Ventures. They're from the 60's and sounded like no one else at the time and their music was played well into the 80's on the radio. Now it's like they never existed. This is why youtube was invented! Gen Z, pay attention! THESE ARE ARTISTS.
I'm in full agreement with you. My brother introduced me to the Ventures in the 60's. I've never found another group like them. I never get tired of them, but then I'm also a big fan of Buddy Holly too.
Grew up with the Ventures and played a lot of their music. Still do. I have the 1960 Walk Don't Run album in monaural. I didn't have a stereo then. Still have several other albums including The Colorful Ventures.

In this show the Ventures had their best and most classic lineup, in my opinion : Don Wilson on rhythm guitar, Mel Taylor on drums, Nokie Edwards on lead guitar and Bob Bogle on bass. I am Brazilian and I live in Iperó, a small and beautiful town in the interior of São Paulo. I greet all fans of The Ventures around the world! hugs !

The true thundering sounds of the Ventures I used to hear when I was about ten. I am from Sri Lanka and didn't know a ball about electric guitars. But these sounds mesmerized me.
