- The Toyota Tacoma is all new for 2024, now built on the TNGA-F Global Truck Platform. Toyota keeps the options alive, with the choice of 4x2 or 4x4, 5-foot bed or 6-foot bed, double cab or Xtra cab, 8-speed automatic transmission or 6-speed manual, and three different versions of the new 2.4L turbocharged four-cylinder-based powertrain. There's a standard output iFORCE, high output iFORCE, and hybrid iFORCE MAX (tuned for power more than efficiency). This TRD Sport model is only available as a double cab, with the high output iFORCE that makes 278-hp and 317 lb-ft of torque (270 and 310 respectively in the manual version). How does the new truck stack up against the old one and against the other mid-size trucks on the market? Let's go ahead and take a look.

UPDATE: At the time of the recording, the i-FORCE MAX engine was not yet available. It is now available as an option on the TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and Limited. It is standard on Trailhunter and TRD Pro.
Great vid Thanks! Out of all reviews nobody has mentioned if water stays in the scoop louvers? Are there drains? Assuming so. And why is yours black? I have to buy a manual in Canada just to get a short bed in the sport option.
Thanks! I don't remember seeing vents on the top honestly, but they're pretty shallow, so not much pools and it gets out of there when you drive. Wish I still had the truck to go check for sure though. I believe it's always black for the TRD sport, but maybe that's just a US thing(?). That's strange that you can't get the short bed with the auto in Canada. I wonder why Toyota went that route. Maybe just based on sales history in Canada or something.
Maybe the water runs onto the hood and they are open to it? Yeah we can get the short bed in an off road premium only! You guys have so many options! Guess I’m getting a manual!
Good luck with the search! Let me know how it is!
does it have a memory seat function for the driver's power seat? did you mention the trd sport doesn't come with the hybrid max?
No memory seats on this one, and I don't see it as an available feature on any of the others either, unfortunately. As of right now, the TRD Sport is not available with the I-FORCE MAX powertrain, but it looks like there's a chance that may change later in the year.
TRD Sport is available with hybrid max as announced today.
What is the width of the bed between the wheel wells?
41.5"
Cool. It comes with a built-in snowplow. Or is that an air dam?
It’s both. 😂 And it’s removable
😆😆😆
What grade fuel does it take?
Regular/87 is fine, but it's recommended to use Top Tier brands
@@GearboxCarReviews Thank you. I wasn't sure with its turbo engine and redesign.
No problem! I was kind of expecting premium to at least be the recommendation, even if not required, but the manual doesn't even mention premium from what I can tell.
Looks like it would plow over 4" of snow .
Yeah it's pretty massive. Luckily it looks like it's pretty easy to take off if you've got a lot of snow in the winter, but definitely wouldn't want to test it in a snow storm.

I saw one up close last night. NOT a good color. At least, for me and my friends. It looked so bland. The trim was TRD Off Road. Priced well above $50K. That's beyond ridiculous. Just sharing my thoughts. I'm sure someone will like it. Just not us.
I think it looks good in the right light, but I personally wouldn't get a white one either. You can get a TRD Off-Road for 45k-ish, but if you load it out, it can definitely get up there in price. Unfortunately that's about on par with the market for what you get.
@@GearboxCarReviews_ I checked one out at my local dealership. The Ice Cap one is as bland as they come. If you must, take the White one. It somehow have this hue of gray tint in it. I guess you can call it off-white, instead of snow.
@@GearboxCarReviews$53k is raptor territory. No way the TRD comes close in capability to the raptor not par for the course
@marklihsu I don't think most people are shopping the fully-loaded TRD Off-Raod though, which puts you down at $45k-ish. I think a lot of it is just stuff for dealers to upsell, honestly. Maybe one or two things that would be worthwhile. But if you are shopping a fully-loaded version, then absolutely, I agree the Raptor should be in the conversation.
I'm hate this blue color inside🤮🤮🤮
It's preproduction, that blue isn't on the production trucks
Looks to much like a GMC
It definitely feels like it's gotten a little more generic looking. I get Chevy Colorado vibes.
