Thanks for the straight up informative video. Not a bit of useless information in it. Very refreshing. Supposed to be getting my RAM in April so this is immensely useful. 👍🏻
That is the best video I have ever watched explaining and showing how to do anything! Great job. The 2500 I just bought has these. I am pumped now. Thanks
I love those solder fittings. (Time stamp 7:40) What I like to do when I use them is to get a piece of shrink tube and will slide it over the wire before I put the solder fittings together. After I've completed splicing the two wire together with the heat-shrink fittings, I then slide the piece of regular heat-shrink tubing over the new joint and apply the heat to shrink the tubing over the joint. This looks much cleaner than using electrical tape and it is much easier to apply than trying to wrap the electric tape around the new joint.
WOW! I have hide-away strobes for plowing I've been dredging to install because I didn't have a clue how to wire the Aux switches. It is so simple. Thanks for the video, I'll install them tomorrow!
Great video! Got right to the point without all the stupidity that many add. Stayed on topic and very informative and showed us how to do it and where to get the stuff you like. I’m now subscribed!
I actually enjoyed listening to you go through your hook up, I have a 4500 and I want to put lights in my tool boxes and your video helped a lot , thank you
Another good idea to light up the tool boxes. I have a cab and chassis too. I wanted to put a work light to light up my flatbed and might as well do my under mount boxes while I am at it.
I was always a Ford diesel guy but once I went to my first Cummins in 2001 I have never looked back. Especially after all of Ford's problems with the 6.0 and 6.4's. No thanks.......
We'll be getting a Dodge truck let this summer, early fall to tow a 5th wheel. Wasn't sure about the upfitter switches if I wanted them or not. Now I do so I can wire "passing" lights to my trailers running lights. Old school they call em ICC lights. Also want to rig back up lights to the trailer, so I can hit those when I need em..
Last state is only if the switch is set to Ignition, then it will retain the last position used (ON or OFF) even after the ignition has been shut off. Again awesome video, thank you!!!
I know im asking randomly but does anyone know a trick to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my password. I would love any help you can offer me.
@Zakai Benson i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
The manufacturer of the "Solder/ Shrink" fittings say to NOT use a flame to set them, they require a heat gun to do that. We use these shrink fittings at the boat shop and only use the heat gun. The flame will degrade the outside jacket and actually melt it. In addition, I personally use a secondary heat shrink tube over everything to give it a professional looking connection then cover it with a jacket all the to where it would go through the fire wall to give it a "Factory looking" wire harness. Also right next to the relay/ fuse location is a ground connection point that is a better location for a ground connection as it has no paint there....
Good video! My 2022 Ram came with them, and I was wondering what I would do with them. Also helped me understand what all the wires that came with my truck do lol
Thanks Brother! You made this simple, short and direct to the point. Very informative and well done. Now it's time for some upgrades / ??? on my 2018 Ram 3500 crew cab 4x4 cab and chassis flatbed. I just hope I can find my wire packages but have a good idea where I put them. Thanks again!
Question. Would it matter if each light were grounded to the vehicle SEPARATELY or alternatively how about if both grounds (one from each light) were connected together and then ground to a single point? Would the differences determine series or parallel? Please explain. TYSM
I’m my experience, all lights can be grounded to the same ground as long as you have a good ground. I don’t know if it makes any significant difference running them all separate or not.
Could be. Upfitter switches can be wired in to anything. If you have a 3500, it’s possible the shrines were wired into the Upfitter box under the hood.
Bro this video is EXACTLY what I needed. So glad that I found it.. I just subbed you and gonna order the connectors using your link are you an Amazon affiliate?? Keep them rolling brother.
There may have been a better way to wire it but I had all my other custom lights wired to the same spot so I just wired in a relay and kept them all together for convenience. Thanks for asking though 👊🏼
I bought my ram 5500 with strobes already installed. Looks like Aux 1 button is wired to them. But for some reason they won’t come on. I set it up on the dash for battery and ignition. Tried both, still nothing. Any ideas why? All 5 Aux button are lit.
I’d Check the fuse in the box under the hood? If still good, check the ground wire? If good, check to make sure the positive wire from the lights are plugged into the right number on the aux harness under the hood just in case. If still not working, just find the wires from the lights and look for any bad connections. If all wires look good and lights still don’t work, maybe take it to a shop to look at.
No, my 2016 Ram has aftermarket oem replacement painted bumpers. My 2018 Ram had chrome bumpers but I had them professionally painted. They sandblasted them, primed with an epoxy, then base coats and then clear coated.
The wiring came with the Upfitter package with my truck. If you already have the switches and plug but no wires, check online or call your local parts dealer and they can get them.
Yes, you can unplug the wires from the main harness. However, it’s probably a little harder to disassemble the whole assembly to remove to reinstall in a different truck. Also, I have an EFI tune.
@@DieselLegiance yea I was hoping just being able to take out the wires if I decided to sell my beast but it’s not happening anytime soon . Just bought some lasfit pods and have a custom bumper. My old shop did and extremely crappy job putting my light bar on and they put the switch right by my knees as get out of the truck. Great videos watched all of them. Seems we have lots in common. Where are you from.
Not at all, I thought about running a ground block from the battery to the cab for all of my wiring but I have not got around to it. I just wanted to keep as little wires around the battery and hot engine as possible which is why I grounded at the corner of the frame. Sometimes I ground to the frame underneath if it’s a shorter run and easier depending on the situation such as my power steps. Either way is fine. If you do ground to the frame, just sand the area to make sure it’s clean bare metal.
Yes, the aux switch housing has fuses inside in different sizes. Just figure out which size fuse you need and switch the fuses around or replace them as needed.
I’m not sure. I just went to the Ram dealer yesterday and they couldn’t help me. I want to add it to my other Ram so I’ll have to find a kit aftermarket.
@@EdSchellhase thanks for checking in!! not yet I’m guessing I need to take the truck to dealer to program they couldn’t tell me if that is the issue some folks aren’t great at there job! Why not just buy the ends and crimpers for the upfitter plugs so you have no spice joint at all? Much cleaner than a bunch of electrical tape connectors. Also do yourself a favor and put your wires in plastic loom for protection and appearance. As for last state I'm guessing that didn't work because you selected battery. If you selected ignition the device would be controlled by the ignition and if they were on when the ignition was switched off they'll come back on when you restart. With battery they'll stay on until you shut them off which is probably not what you want for interior lights as you could run down your battery.
I do use the upfitter ends at the box under the hood. I have used wire loom since this video. I am just always changing things up and sometimes don’t have the loom on hand at the time of filming.
@@DieselLegiance by ends I was suggesting buying the pins and putting them directly on the wire you are connecting so you don't have to have a splice joint from one wire to another.

I am getting ready to install fog lights in Aux3 do I need to use a relay and an in-line fuse for the lights?
Typically the aux switches have a fuse and relay in the box under the hood. You should not need to add any unless the old ones are bad.
I have a 2021 1500 Warlock and was wondering if these would fit. It is very similar to the 2019 Rebel.
Not sure. The aux switches I have were an “add on” package from the dealership.

Hey, does it matter which color pigtail to use?
No, it does not. The colors are for your own records to keep track.
With a light bar would you need to wire in the relay or how’s that work?
No, the auxiliary switches that come as an option for the ram already have fuses and relays in the box under the front hood.

What brand are ur interior LED's that u put on Aux 3?

Where did you get the wire kit for those Aux switches?
They came with the truck from factory but I’m sure you can find these wire end connectors online and make sure own.
Appreciated your video very informative. Quick question where did you get the wiring for the upfitters?
The wiring came with the Upfitter package with my truck. If you already have the switches and plug but no wires, check online or call your local parts dealer and they can get them.
Can they be removed after if I decide to sell my truck and take off the accessories? Also what kind of tuner is that I have the same truck ?

Yes, the aux switch housing has fuses inside in different sizes. Just figure out which size fuse you need and switch the fuses around or replace them as needed.
@@DieselLegiance thanks man, solid video. 🤘
What is the part number for the wires to the AUX box under hood?
I’m not sure. I just went to the Ram dealer yesterday and they couldn’t help me. I want to add it to my other Ram so I’ll have to find a kit aftermarket.
Where did you get the wiring?
It came with my truck as a package. You can probably call a dealer and order it or if you can find the metal clip/ends, you can make your own.
Ill see if I can get one from a salvage yard RAM.
Yeah that’s my plan too as my other Ram does not have the Upfitter package. I did find a company that makes them but they were out of stock.
A proper gas-tight butt-splice crimp and shrink tube is far superior to soldering. Soldering weakens the joint.
Do you have a link for the uplifter switch package you got?
I don’t as my truck came with it from factory. You may need to contact the dealer for a kit if needed?
@@DieselLegiance thanks boss man
Do you know the part number for that panel i need to swap mine out for it?
I don’t, sorry. You may have to go to the dealership to have them look it up.
What's why are you wiring your fog lights to your AUX switch? Is the factory switch bad?
This was a tradesman model that didn’t come with fog lights. I had to add them.
I have a 14 3500 I don’t have juice to the upfit housing on firewall the interior switch lights turn on but nothing at the firewall housing any idea
Maybe a bad wire connection going to the Upfitter fuse box under the hood? Maybe the relays or fuses are bad?
