Excellent podcast. There are so many points Dr. Curtis makes that anyone new to radiculopathy should really pay attention to. From my journey with lumbar radiculopathy, the biggest failure of the system are bad PT's. The doctors can give you shots to calm things down and put you in a good position to make lifestyle changes and targeted strengthening, but I've seen too many PT's who place way too much emphasis on the PT visits and little to no emphasis on an at home program.

Very valuable, complete explanation that the patient might not get in a standard medical appointment due to time limitation. Time well spent. Thank you.

Have L. Radiculopathy, had first steroid injection which helped greatly with the pain, but lasted only 4-6 days. A week before this I started on Disk decompression, which is like a Miracle, slowly the pain decreased and so with the tingling. I have been doing the decompression for 6 weeks now, and exercise for Sciatica, almost pain free! I'm posting my experience so others may try this, Drs. Funiciello and Curtis, what's your take on Spinal Decompression?

I just found this video. It really helps to explain your spine. I do have a problem. I had a fall 8 months ago. I was diagnosed with a DVT, pinched nerve, and nerved damage. Also been given the diagnosis of sciatica. I do have the back of my leg numb, all the way down. But I also have the front of my leg numb, and with pain on the top of my knee and groin section. My lower leg is also getting really red. I wonder if it has to do with the sciatica? Thank you

Ok. . . reaching out because I have a friend with this but it got worse from bad surgery.
Question... Couldn't the surgeon put a protective flexible tubing around the nerve to prevent the pain and more from any swelling?
I have a flex tube for all my wires for my computer and desk area. It's the same idea. Reverse stint...

30:21 you mean “bulging disc” … herniated discs involve annulus tears and disc nucleus spilling out…which almost ALWAYS causes bad pain

I injured my back at work in 2010. Bulging discs, arthritis, compressed left traversing L4 nerve root, compressed S1 all shown on MRI. My right sole and three last toes have been numb and tingling ever since without stop. Much worse after standing. However, someone did a nerve test back in 2010 and did not find anything concerning my toes. How is this possible when I have had to suffer from non-stop numb and tingling right foot and toes since 2010?

I’ve been trying to get feet pain service connected as secondary to my L5 S1and the VA continues to deny well into appeals process even with residual sciatica. Current treatment provided by Chiropractic and Podiatrist and both agree my feet pain is associated to my lumbar...🤷🏻‍♂️

Keep fighting don't give up the VA loves for veterans to give up, educate yourself. Look at your Ebenefits medical history see what you are rated on specifically. Their are some good videos on the Web of RUclips to watch and see if you have secondary issues that can be connected. The name of the game of secondary service connection is do you have Medical diagnoses if you don't get yourself to the Dr., asap. Without that you will never get any were with the VA ever, that's the key in opening up the door. As the back will affect other areas of ones body, especially if you have any type of degenerative issues going, had surgery, etc.

The problem with some like my feet pain is in my VA notes and the Podiatrist flat out agrees with his assessment that my feet are being aggravated originally from back with the ridiculopathy. Have seen a Neurosurgeon had a micro discectomy of L2/3 for sciatica. Didn’t work. 2019 I had Sciatic nerve down my left leg 2 mths before a C4/5 S/1 fusion for a different nerve pain and also I couldn’t stand very long. Sciatica still there. Have Seen 2 pain Specialist trialled a Spinal stimulator, didn’t work either. Had 2 Block injections lower back., didn’t work. So now they are calling it Radiculopathy, which means the sheath of the sciatic nerve is damaged and can’t be fixed. I now live on 20mls Targin (Opoid) and 25mils of Endep, daily. Cost a lot of money over 2.5 years and these so called Specialist couldn’t help but kept takinglots of $$$. I now have the problem that my GP doesn’t want to keep giving scripts for Opoids as he may loose his Registration. 🤬🤬🤬🤬
