Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 Review!

- The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 is a beast of a monitor with the best HDR experience I've had to date thanks to the 1000 nits and 1196 local dimming zones. This comes with a hefty price tag though so it finds itself in a niche place among monitors. I'm hoping there are some really good Black Friday sales this year so more people can pick this up because it looks incredible in person. Links are below if you want to get it now and if you have any questions about this let me know in the comment section.
*This doesn't have PbP, only PiP, for those wondering which I would consider a slight downside if that's something you really need.

Update to the HDR 2000, I saw the peak luminance on the spec sheet at 1000 nits and didn't see the Quantum HDR 2000. I checked out the review from Hardware Unboxed because they do very in depth testing and they were only able to get 1230 peak nits out of this monitor. So the HDR 2000 claim here is a little iffy in my opinion but I did misspeak in the video on this, my apologies.
Is the wobble really bad?
Are you feel VA disadvantages (what peoples and tech members are always saying) or not?

Their testing showed that the G8 was even lower, and that it was probably just hit and miss and that they're probably identical.
Just a personal question on the black bars.. Can I get a full screen if am playing with a ps5 or ps4? Or will I get black bars for those consoles?
Got this for $450 yesterday from Samsung in a stacked coupon sale, and decided to replace my edge-lit 2018 1440p acer Predator monitor that cost me $550 back then. Very excited.
how has it held up so far?
@@scads7994 is great, no regrets.
8 months later and this monitor is still unsurpassed in its category: that is true HDR without burn-in risk and text fringing. It seems like the market is going towards OLED which is great for gaming but terrible for productivity use. So if you are looking for a great gaming monitor that is also good for productivity, this is still the best pick IMO.
@@DrakonR Do you own the monitor to be able to say that? Yes the curve feels extra but it is certainly not terrible. Bottom-line: If you want a 4k, HDR, high refresh rate monitor that doesn't risk burn-in, this is currently the only option.
@@DrakonR I do like it a lot so I guess everyone is different. Regarding the curve i got used to it and I find it better than flat for some games (First person games mostly). My only complaint about this monitor is regarding the viewing angles: the content only looks good if you are looking at the screen dead-on.
And there is no such thing as being "afraid of burn-in". It will happen at some point in the life of an oled product, the when depends on how and how often you use the screen. I use my screen a lot so I would get burn-in relatively rapidly.
@@DrakonR What would you recommend for 80% productivity and 20% gaming?
Productivity can mean many different things to different people. For my productivity workflow the geometric distortions that come with a 1000R curve are a non-issue.
@@DrakonRit's not that bad tbh. I have been using it for a year and i even have a flat apple xdr display. When not doing colour accurate work i just got used to the way it looks and it causes no problems, i also really like the curve
I've had this monitor for 2 months. It's driven by a RTX4080 card. It's been a great experience for general PC use, content consumption and gaming. For whatever reason, the wobble issue shown on the review is far less on mine. It really is not a problem even when typing.
I got mine few weeks ago. Does yours have scanline on blue colors when adaptive sync is on or when using 165hz?
@@lidavid8056 from what i have seen this shouldnt be an issue when running 165hz. i know samsung is known for scan lines but only when running 240hz?
this is is amazing news as i will be getting my first pc build soon for this monitor. (also rtx 4080) i cant wait!
just checked this out, TOTALLY buying it when i realized its 50% off and only $564 instead of $1099
I've spent so much time trying to decide what high end monitor to buy... such a hard decision as they all have their own flaws and cons. But , I think I will risk it and go with this one . Great review thanks.
so how it's going? mine will arrive tomorrow, can't wait to give it i try =)
now i have 32 4k 144hz IPS, but i started to spend more time without lights in the room so IPS glow frustrates me sometimes ;(
@@zakkman so how is ur experience with neo g7 32 inch ? worth to buy for gaming and movies watching ?? or waste for gaming , any issue blur etc ???
@@kirangalani6236 you thinking to buy it?
@@kirangalani6236mixed feelings, you know... It is the ABOSLUTELY BEAST in terms of picture quality. Seriously, i have never owned a better all-around display in my life (although i remember plasma tvs (and still have one in my country house) with true black and now i have two OLED TVs, but i'm not huge fan of them due to low peak brightness and fringing text render). Great brightness, contrast and local dimming works very well (however, you can still see some blooming in dark-desktop scenarios if you turn it at "high" settings... but i even find it nice sometimes to see highlighted mouse cursor, maybe i'm an idiot, but it looks interesting)) but if you turn it at "auto" setting it will remove blooming while keeping VERY GOOD black level with ALL scenarios, MILES BETTER than regular VA panels. Absolutely mind-blowing vs other VA panels. And keep in mind that there is NO smearing and ghosting at all! (i can't see anything at least) My IPS Acer Predator panel is slower than this one!
Action games and movies are mind-blowing! HDR content is very good!
BUT! On the other hand i still can't get used to that aggressive curve ;( it is my first curved display ever and sometimes it looks weird... Im not saying that it's unusable, but in work or casual desktop scenarios, or even if you play strategies or topdown-view rpgs it looks some kind of strange and unusual. However if you play action games (rdr2, tlou, horizon, gow, all-fps-titles, etc) it will give you solid boost to immersion vs flat panels.
I'm getting used to this more and more everyday, but keep in mind that THIS point is MUCH more important than "bad view angles with VA" (it's overblown, yes). Honestly, if this one was flat i'd call this the BEST all-around monitor of all time, no doubt.
But anyway we have no competitors in this field ;( Samsung is the ONLY manufacturere who offers 4k 144+hz 32' VA miniled monitors... All other competitors use miniled IPS panels with shitty contrast ratio, so we have not much to choose from ;(
So, my conclusion is: if you're ok with curvatory, then THIS ONE is no brainer choice. Especially with current price drops. BUT! if you don't like curved displays, then you may come across some issues. I will say more: this is THE ONLY thing that you should keep in mind and consider to decide to buy this one or not. If you can live with it, there is no competitors, period.
Yes , how about 1000R curve , ok or hard to get habit with it
Price has finally come down a good amount and i def want this and ill be spending my money on this because this will be beautiful and i must have it
My god, this monitor looks awesome! Coming from a TN panel, this would be a completely new experience for me, also, I've never had a curved monitor but I want one. :D
Picked one up from a local online auction for a whopping $47 USD. The steal of the century honestly
No minimum bid? Sorry only been to ebay auction lol
Lol sure you did. No one is that stupid.
I got a g8 on local auction for 400€ and i thought that was a steal, nope you definitely win with your 47$

I bought mine for $230 from BestBuy because it was missing a cable and was an open box. It works perfect and is BRAND spanking new with not even a scratch on it. I was literally bouncing on a cloud out the door because of how little I paid for a $1200 monitor 😂
I just ordered one to go with the beast of a PC I am having built. I am coming from a 27" 1080p with 8-Bit color depth meaning all the night skies in my games, and movies, have horrible color banding. I can hardly wait to have a nice setup with great graphics and all the power and then some needed to power them. And it will have a huge amount of storage, no more deleting a game so I can install another one.
I got my Neo G8 for $1091 USD 'coz of promotional discounts. Had to buy a monitor arm mount though due to how wobbly it is. Overall satisfied with mine and it's awesome for gaming! 😁
How did you get those discounts? I really want to get a Neo G8, But that price burns
@@ethanbuehlig There was a promotional discount when the Neo G8 launched and another conditional discounts if you are a first responder, works for the government, or education, etc. I gotten both discounts. I think it's over now though. If you can wait buying, do that instead. There will be more awesome gaming monitors on their way soon that might even be better than the Neo G8.

@1upnerdcore thank you for this review bro! i went and viewed the neo g8 at my local store. I absolutely loved it but wasnt keen on the all white back of the monitor and the full scale matt finish. I think i actually much prefer the neo G7 with its all black aesthetic and semi gloss panel i think i have just made my decision. thank you bro
I’m glad it helped 💪🏽
This monitor is $615 in South Korea. LG c2 is $1200. Prices are all over the place by region.
This 32'' version seems better overall than the 43'' version, even though they're basically the same price. I would love the bigger model since i sit abot 5 feet from my screen, but after seeing reviews and people complaining about ghosting and low text quality for reading, this 32'' seems as one of the best 32'' 4k monitors ever made.
Just bought one directly from Samsung from their Samsung Plus Store. Paid 870€, at this price I think that the monitor is very competitive.
How so cheap? Lowest I could get it was £890 with a a discount code

Both the Neo G8 & G7 are rated for HDR2000. Not that either actually hits that in normal usage but just something I wanted to point out. Only difference is the screen coating & refresh rate.
What I love about this is that it's a 16:9 from what I can tell and with these specs that is rare. I hate ultrawide

U said it i got it half off cant wait to try this out!
Just got mine at 800€ and here's a short feedback :
- it wobbles a lot more than most of monitors
- the buttons are not convenient, especially since the monitor moves a lot everytime you push a button
- the leg part that supports it looks cheap considering the weight of the monitor
- 1000R seems too much when used on desktop (does not bother me for video games or videos though) - 1500R seems to be the sweet spot to me
- it takes much depth on the desk
- colors seems OK, more accurate and homogeneous than the MSI 321CU as a comparison
- the mini led clearly makes the difference compared to edge led (the black looks great)
For that price I was expecting less drawbacks but it might be a valuable monitor.
Thanks for the review! Picked this up for $799!
Do you like it? Still use it?
@@madhaze0126 it’s good but sold this awhile ago. Currently using the new Alienware 27” OLED. Doesn’t get much better.
just bought this. Going to be jumping straight to this from a horrible 24" 1080p TN panel.
Nice!
It is currently on sale at Best Buy and Samsung shop for $499
Really?
I need a new monitor bit bigger than my 24's and smaller than the 48 4k tv which is too big for general use and gaming. I quite like this one and feel it may be the one. You mentioned having to fiddle with the settings a great deal for your liking. I see you listed the settings further down. Will be a great test if i get it.
@20:40 samsung claims HDR2000 for the neo g7 on their own product page, this is not an amazon listing error. this is a claim direct from samsung's own website and marketing.
I made the correction in the comment section. It’s pinned at the top. The issue though is that’s it’s not verified by an outside company like VESA. Hardware Unboxed couldn’t get close to hitting the 2000 nits in their tests
Been using this for a few weeks now and I realized with adaptive sync on and vrr off, the monitor is smoother than with adaptive sync off and vrr off, however I get bad flickering with adaptive sync on and vrr off. It sucks cuz with all the combinations, that is the smoothest experience but the flickering I can’t stand

I just got it set up and love it. I just need to adjust a few settings and it will be perfect for me. BTW, my monitor seems to be pretty solid, is not shaky unless I tap it and then it is minimal.
It’d be great to see what setting this should be when connected on ps5
I have this monitor and just like you said, the amount of settings are overwhelming! I would love to know exactly what settings you're using both on the monitor itself and in the Nvidia control panel if you wouldn't mind. Thanks! 😊
I don’t have the monitor anymore but I was using the RPG and FPS presets with the nvidia control panel brightness and contrast turned up slightly and the digital vibrancy turned up to 54.

I just noticed that if coresync is turned on then during changes there is a minute flicker on the display . So i keep mine off.
Mine was the local dimming causing a minute flicker. Thinking about returning since without the local dimming then whats the point?

@@1UpNerdcore I am hoping to purchase this one soon. I don't see that option in the nVidia Control Panel. The Color Output Depth is greyed out at 8, likely because my current Dell 2716DG cannot do that? Seems like an obscure way to go about it. Thanks for your work!

@1UpNerdcore thanks
Does the Neo G7 also have problems with scanlines like the Neo G8 with 240Hz?
Nope 👍🏻
Some people have reported scanlines on the Neo G7 but apparently it is less noticeable than the G8 and not as widespread. On my older Samsung CRG9 (120hz) I only see scanlines on some Lagom LCD test patterns but never in real life content. The worst issue in the Odyssey VA lineup will be freesync/gsync flickering which is VA panel problem and can't be avoided on badly optimized games that stutter.
What settings are people using for Xbox series X? Just ordered the G7 4k 165hz for £799.00 after recycle and cash back promotions
So after a month what settings works best for xsx?
I see nothing changed regarding settings since g7. I had exactly what you had, so underwhelmed and yet overwhelmed with the zillion settings..it drives me nuts, soecially the quircks the old g7 had with consoles where some options only come available when a setting is toggled off. @@Koodaris @Le'Dawn Hey, yep i did buy one, its very nice. As for 1440p many games look totally fine, for example Borderlands 3, Cyberpunk, however older games can look bad, for example guild wars 2. Now i am not doing anything special with upscaling or such, i am just setting resolution. There are loads of high tech upscaling that can be done in nvidia control panel and such so I'm sure there are ways to make lower res look better. Also given the release of the 4000 series GPUS it seems 4k is getting easier and easier. But its a nice monitor i bought it for the HDR and such tech mainly.
If you are running 1080p though normally, it might be too much of an upscale to 4k pixel density screen, this is where you get the bad effect as its having to stretch 1080p pixels over a 4k layout, im not sure of your system setup etc. Its hard to give advice on $1000 purchase i dont want anyone to be upset :) Check forums and such too for peoples advice there. :)

wonder how this is different from the samsung odyssey neo g7 43-inch i was hesitant to replace my 32 inch G7 which was curved with this flat pannel but I needed a 2nd monitor and the 43 cost less somehow than the 32 which i cant understand at all
So if I want good contrast, 4K picture, good HDR for my PS5 as well as content watching. On top of the fact that the HDMI2.1 allows me to play some of the games with a more consistent motion. Is it still not worth it just because I cant use some of its control panel?
Kinda of overkill for just a console but it’s also your money so if you’re really interested in it a say go for it 👍🏻
Thanks for the great review. Ive been really struggling with getting the image setup right, it always seems a bit grey, SDR always looks better than HDR enabled in windows 10. Can you recommend what settings to try in the monitor settings and also nvidia settings please
I don’t have the monitor anymore as I can’t keep all of the monitors I’ve reviewed long term. So unfortunately I can’t recommend any settings
you need win 11 for this monitor, I use HDR on all the time with win11 and nvidia RTX HDR fixes SDR video to look great with HDR, same with games. Windows 10 is bad with HDR, win 11 works much better with this monitor.
Thanks for the review. Two of the G7s or a Neo G9? Thoughts. Replacing two 27" 2560 x 1440 60 Hz monitors and setting up a new system with 4090 GPU and 13th Gen i9 Intel CPU. Great insight on the jump from 1440 to 4K. I was wondering this, and like you, I felt the jump from 1080P to 1440P was significant. Not sure I need 4K, and I would only be able to game on one of the G7s. Some games take advantage of the entire 5120 x 1440 Neo G9 screen, which looks really cool. I think it’s worth getting for pc
Hello. Please would you be so kind and tell how how do you call those tiles you have behind your monitor? Pardon my noobism, but they look like something ''sound proof''.
So since I find those pretty cool and I dont know the name, I kindly ask for the help :)
Thank you in advance.
They are 3D wall panels
Do you have some tips on setting up the color? Also, have you had any issues with gsync compatibility? I’ve gotten a lot of flickering with it turned on. Everything else has been great. No dead pixels.
9:07 I’m not sure if you noticed it on the very bottom there are flickers that I see idk if it’s just me or the wallpaper he has doing some light flickers if it’s live or something
Hi,is it worth upgrade from gigabyte M32U to G7 for only console ?.Thank you.
Not in my opinion
@@1UpNerdcore Thank you very much, better to wait for new oled panels.Have a nice day.
@1UpNerdcore is it worth to buy neo g7 in 2024 ? for gaming and movies ? 3070 ti card , 2 to3 feet distance between me and monitor ? please suggest me
If you don’t want to get an OLED it’s still one of the best monitors out there if it’s discounted from the original price
mixed feelings, you know... All other competitors use miniled IPS panels with shitty contrast ratio, so we have not much to choose from ;( So, my conclusion is: if you're ok with curvatory, then THIS ONE is no brainer choice. Especially with current price drops. BUT! if you don't like curved displays, then you may come across some issues. I will say more: this is THE ONLY thing that you should keep in mind and consider to decide to buy this one or not. If you can live with it, there is no competitors, period. I suggest to look at this in person, if you can.
@@zakkman 32 inch, how much minimum distance u need between u and monitor for viable and cover 32 inch full view for gaming and movies ?? RUclips , movies , netflix , experience , and monitor stand weak ? Need vesa stand ???
@@kirangalani6236 Perfect minimal viewing distance is 60 cm for 32 inch 4k
Would you be willing to share the adjustments you made to the monitor to get the pictured quality you wanted?
I used the RPG and Movie presets
20:50 a gaming monitor is never an investment unless you earn money on gaming, which prob applies the minority of the audience. A good purchase, good buy, or whatever else
unnecessary copage among the audience.
1000r is a deal breaker. 1500R+ is much better even than flat.
Damn. Zero dawn huh. As of where it stands yes it’s tempting I could Do it. But. Is it worth it? 4K was just to pricey for me last year when I built a halo pc, 5900x with a 6900xt. Hard to justify replacing my dell 32 inch curved 1440p monitor. At 165 hertz also. It’s nice.
1440p is great but I prefer 4k now. It’s a personal preference and cost thing so to each their own.
In some scenario from the video it seems as if the monitor is flickering , is this the monitor or the camera?
Camera
Is there a precil in the middle of the screen? and what types
A precil? Not sure what that is
@@1UpNerdcore This is for games, for example shooters, the sight is in the middle of the screen
Does HDR2000 certification not need 2000nites for true 2000HDR certification?
How do you use the lights
Should be an option in the panel menu
between this and LG's UltraGear 32" 32GQ950-B which would you recommend?
I haven’t used the lg but based off specs I would go with the G7. The LG only has 32 local dimming zones and the G7 has 1196
planning on buying this monitor on black friday. any chance you can share your nvidia control panel color settings as a starting point?
I just used the FPS and RPG preset with no adjustments to the nvidia control panel here
Will you be doing a video on the LG 32gq950 any time soon?
I’ll check it out but I have an aorus monitor to review after the G9 I’m working on
@@1UpNerdcore nice
Hi, is it 220v compatible?, or just 110v for US market only?, thk
what is the setting you use for the monitor ?
FPS or movie preset 👍🏻
@@1UpNerdcore what about other minor stuff like brightness and others, you said you been tweaking it til you enjoy the quality
Does anyone know if there's a plastic over the screen I'm driving my self crazy thinking I have to peel one off not sure
It would have very noticeable tape holding it on if it did.
I just wish there was a 27" 1500R version
Is 500 on sale now a good price for it, I'm mounting it so I'll be fine and I'm not picky.
It’s a good price 👍🏻
Do u think the benq ex3210r or the more dense ex2710r va panel are that bad against this ? Here in europe the neo g7 cost 1450 euro and g8 1650 euro , the benq only 299 or 499 the 32 version
I will use it only with series x , I'm scared about quality control of samsung
The G7 is overkill for just playing on console. As long as those other monitors are native 4K 120hz with hdmi 2.1 it’ll be a good choice.
I bought my neo g7 for 900€. Try to use a price tracker. I set the Limit to 999 and not a week later i got it for 902€ but in that moment you have to be fast... xD
Will this work with the govee lights strip you showed??
It could 👍🏻
