I am 47 years old, and my uncle had a white Mazda RX-7 back in the eighties. I couldn't pass this one up. This is my second LDRC vehicle. I have the red AE86 that came with two sets of tires. On that one I put the more grippy non drift tires. The two remotes are not compatible which was a bummer for me. I also could not get the side mirrors to pop on, or the suspension limiters, so I gave up for now. All in all, a great value and some parts seem to be available. I would recommend.
yeah you need to bind them to the cars. I have seen issue with some parts not fitting but this happened on the LDRC unimogs. This and the red 86 (episode 401) didnt have that problem
my favorite part was *Gasp* "Whats in there? something I might need later?" "yes" "oh okay Im gonna need those later" hahaha, thank you for the review! If you ever do upgrades to this car please let us know! I just purchased this model and the AE86 model and apparently LDRC is about to release a GTR model as well!
You sold me on getting one... just the scale looks alone is great, and they are running $65 with two batteries, so cost is reasonable enough for what you get. Thank you!
I think being steady on the wheel with smooth steering helps. When I tried to drive it like there is no gyro I could not handle it. when I let it have the "control" on the turn it actually did nice perfect donughts. next stage is doing eights. cool review.
I'm a RWD 1/10th drifter and this looks cute. I think w some work on the toe out and camber in front and a bit of practice it could be a super fun rig!
@@AMPROEngineering It will most likely need better steering angles and some suspension work to get the ride right but you already have the basics. Plus, it looks really nice which is a bonus> :D
Thanks for making this review, it reminded me that I had the LDRC AE86 on my shopping list but hadn't got around to buying it. I've rectified that issue now.
Just got mine. Watched your great video while charging and I subscribed to your channel. Gotta go now... The charger says battery is fully charged 😊😊😊😊
@@AMPROEngineering I had!!! I definitely need to practice!!! It's funny how car runs differently according to surface. I have 2 types of hard floor (basement and ground floor): on basement surface car is basically impossible to control (= driving on ice) even with gyro set on 100% while on ground floor it's a lot of fun even with just 25%gyro. Anyway it's a cool toy: body details are very good. Love the pup up lights😍
Would’ve been cool if the body was taken off to see how the chassis looked like. This car would be a good candidate to put a higher end radio system in, with a high quality micro servo, and a 1s lipo. Foam or rubber tires can be made for grip
So, I did that in the V2 A-series review. Haven't seen it? That is because SOMEONE hasnt posted that yet....episode 401! Totally my fault. I made rubber ones for the V1 A-series and I love it but grippy tires and that over exaggerated steering are not good. With better electrical they would be killer.
More looks then any kind of expected performance and it helps if you have a larger area to run these on. But I give this RC a 4 out of 10 in performance and a 7 of 10 in looks. Hood scoop is not centered
I think that car may be a little to light in the front and the front wheels r just pushing. I believe it would work alot better with the gyro off! That or add to weight to the frontend. But i cant get over how good and scale that car looks👍oh yea!! U know that old saying? Practice makes makes perfect. 😂😂 cool video.
Drifting is like the NY Jets first game- full of hope and excitement then after halftime that part of the Hobby is done - Except for the non athletes lol
Tamiya needs that RX-7. The Merkur Cossworth and the Mustang SVO/ please stop humping Subarus leg / and the worst year Mustang - get with it or get left behind / Cmon your the king show us loyal fans deserve better
I bought the new Fiat Abarth and it is a mess. The body proportions are all wrong, the wheels sit inboard 8mm per side, the body mounts go right through the edge of the scoop, the grill is a mess....remember when Tamiya owned "Scale"? They they are getting owned.
Hey buddy if you or someone you know have the ability to use 3d print i can confirm you could add coil suspension and more steering angle provided you print some longer arms/ links I was waiting for reviews to come out on this little guy as from what i read online it was meant to be a 4wd which put me off completely and i thought the lights were fixed rather than flip ups Youve absolutely sold me on this now 🤙 some tunning i think this would be a great starter kit for someone whom wants to get into drift without spending 700+
I am sure you could add coil springs but at the size this car is, they are probably the ones you can get on the FMS smasher. I don't know that they would do much though. This is a great car and I cannot believe it is as cheap as it is!
@@AMPROEngineering definitely gonna add it to my collection and see if we can add some quality of life mods on a budget 🤙 I think we could atleast make it drift abit better with weight distribution and some better rims/tyre compound maybe some ds5 like what they run on the atomic and drift art rigs Gonna need some mods to fit them size rims but again I would say it's impossible given 3d print tech
I really hope this and the 86 get some after market parts, hopefully makes diferent wheels and body kits,or even bodies,i know they will make a v3 of the 86 and an nsx,but im hoping for a fd rx7,also its true these have gyro issues? Or is that just people not being used to it?
Yes I agree. What issues? I have tested three of these heavily and had only good things to say. I would assume people are not aware of how to set it up.
@@AMPROEngineering i saw some people say they had faulty gyros but it could be inexperience, what i know wonder is to get this fc or the v3 of the trueno that has a gyro now
Are you still printing wheels for these? I'd like to see other wheels than what's offered. Something more like what's use in drifting with a high negative offset
Hey, I have the same Rx7 but I can't drift completely well because if I want it to come back it goes in front so it doesn't turn around...and I'm a novice

Where’d you buy yours?

Yeah this is a great car. I have done a lot of detail work and am adding many, many lights. You will see more of this!
You sold me on getting one... just the scale looks alone is great, and they are running $65 with two batteries, so cost is reasonable enough for what you get. Thank you!
I was never a FC fan but now I am in love. I like it more than the V2 AE86 and the more I drove this, the less crap I was!
I think being steady on the wheel with smooth steering helps. When I tried to drive it like there is no gyro I could not handle it. when I let it have the "control" on the turn it actually did nice perfect donughts. next stage is doing eights.
cool review.
Yeah you are right. I have been messing with it a lot and I am getting way better ( i mean I suck still but one day... )
I got this ldrc yesterday and it was great i am starting to improve😊😊
I love this car.
I'm a RWD 1/10th drifter and this looks cute. I think w some work on the toe out and camber in front and a bit of practice it could be a super fun rig!
I agree! I really wanna keep trying and take this to the drift track. It was way too much fun.

I am a huge fan of the 86! I did a ton of work to mine and use it a lot.

Have fun!

Aliexpress has this car and the Trueno 2 for one. 45 plus tax for both! I ordered them plus the AE86 decals for the tofu shop!
WOW! That is killer!
You should take this to a local hobby store and find people who does rc 2wd drifting and give it to them to try it to see what they think 😅
There is a shop that has a drift track that I plan to visit. That was my first thought!
Lol.. you were right about your drifting skills. ..and I'm no better.😢
Fun to watch though. Great little car. I'm sure you'll make it better.
I may suck but man....I didnt want to stop! It was really fun and I feel like a few more packs and I will suck less!

Why a 1s lipo when it comes with a 2s lipo? Makes no sense.
Yes your need to get some Kyosho Fazer mk2 from Buick to 57 Chevy to the new C10
That is a cool chassis for sure
I'm not into drifting, but that car looks soo good, it might be my in.
Same but I had way too much fun with this car... now I want to try more

I cant complain for the price. As for the scoop, correct. It's offset on the real one too.

I tried with the gyro off and I couldnt do a damn thing BUT i am terrible at it. Yeah, it does seem to push a lot! I will keep practicing!
Very Cool!👍🤙
Thank you!
I now feel better. At least I'm not the worst at drifting. I tie with you. lol
ahahahahah!

I do plan on making some. The wheels will need to be printed too but we should have something up.
Do you happen to know the wheelbase of the RX7? I thought I heard you say it but can't seem to find it in the buyer guides for the 1801-1803. Thanks!
I do measure it in the NSX video to get the actual scale.
@@AMPROEngineering Thank you! I'll check it out again :)
Benissimo 👍
Thank you!
Do you see these models being upgraded?
I would start with greased helical cut gears.
While you can get spare parts, I have not seen mods yet. These are popular so maybe we will begin to see upgrades soon.
I have a problem with the remote i did put in the batteries but it just wont go on
OH that's no good. I would reach out to LDRC customer support.
Hey, I have the same Rx7 but I can't drift completely well because if I want it to come back it goes in front so it doesn't turn around...and I'm a novice
Yeah it take a lot of practice.
the steering is proportional?
Yup!
Hi, do you know whitch type of battery it runs? It only comes with 1 so i would like to buy a couple more for switching them up
It is specific to the LDRC cars. Search LDRC Battery and you will see the ones it needs. Very annoying they are not standardized.
I like it
I really do too. I was planning on using the chassis for another build but I changed my mind!
You need some Kyosho MK2 RC
May need to look at them.
Where can this be purchased from?
Ldrc 👊🙌
Link in description.
I am going to buy it 😢
I run this a lot!
RX-7 always sat lower in the back.
It seems the 3rd gen supra did too.
They squated on power but didn't sit lower unless they had dead suspension
