    Thanks for the video mate. I've lived in my Landy for 7 years in Africa.
    What I have learnt is that if you're going to be travelling long term, rather than a week or two of holidaying in one place, its best to concentrate on time and effort required to setup and pack away more than anything else, as most days you're on the move. If you raise a sweat/your heart rate in setup/putting away then it's not optimised.
    It takes me 7 minutes from being in bed to driving, having eaten breakfast and with a coffee in hand.
    Kind regards, Darrin

    I tried many things over 25 years. Best for me is simple ground tent and one for kids. Water jugs and a engel fibreglass icebox. Everything else, fridges, swags, has had endless problems and expense. Keep it simple. 4 of us, one landcruiser, everything fits, works and is light. No trailers to store. Already have a boat and trailer, but prefer taking kayaks on roof. We are ready in no time, while our friends are getting organised and look at us in awe at how cheap and quick our setup is while theyre banging in huge pegs for their trailer tents, yet we have been around australia several times, while theyre back to work to pay for the stupid camper trailers and electronics and expensive car.

    good episode and love twilight cove. I use a fold up toiled seat that a plastic bag clips on to, when you are done, just tie the bag up and throw it on one of your friends back seat.... 😀

    Gday Ronny, my wife, kids and I have done a reasonable amount of camping. Our method of showering is a 2lt milk bottle, with some small holes in the lid. We mix some warm water in and tip it up wet yourself, them soap up and rinse. Often wash my hair as well. Most times the 2lts will be enough for 2 of us.

    Pooping with the ET (the wee shovel Ronny has) fold out the spade 90 degrees, lock it in place and pop it under one butt cheek as a seat. If you get real fancy, open the pick at 90 degrees and it holds your bog roll. Worked a treat out field for many years.

    Great episode! I had assumed the pod trailer would have a pop up roof so you can stand. Also surprised no awning. I think I’d want both if I’m towing a trailer. Think the off-ground swag set up was my preference as a result.

    I like ideas from each camp but I like the ability to set camp up as a base station so I can come and go as I please. Favourite set up was when we had several quikshades setup in the middle creating a huge 6x6m area for camp kitchen and Esky/fridges. If you need power just run a solar blanket

    Great vid but would love to get ideas on ute tub setups. i have a rolltop cover. All other options shown are easy with the room and money to buy all that, finding space in the ute with a platform, there's the challenge for you to solve... (without buying a camper trailer)

  • @WesternAustraliaNowAndThen
    @WesternAustraliaNowAndThen Год назад +4

    The older I get the more comfort I want/need so the pod setup would be the one I would pick and since we generally tow a trailer anyway, that side of it doesn't bother me. The days of 2 man tents and sleeping on the ground with just a sleeping bag are long gone :)

    • @stevezodiac575
      @stevezodiac575 Год назад +1

      Front Runner roof trays (at least some) have the table storage feature. Alternatively a roll up table (or two) can be a lower cost space saving / easy to stow alternative - but they will take a minute to set up and pack down.

      Likely any long-enough (2000 mm) roof tray. Of course, you'd have to remove the Maxtracks etc, etc first. So easier to just pop the swag on a comfy stretcher I'd say..

    I'm a really old bastard, though still stunningly attractive. I like it simple. My knees don't work that well. Too much sport. My wife has to answer the call of nature at odd times. Neither of us enjoy climbing up or down ladders, particularly when half pickled. Despite this we travel around to the extremely remote places that Ronnie hasn't even thought of yet. And we've done all these things a long time ago; way, way beyond Ronnie's dreamtime. We love, and normally sleep on the ground with just a tarp for cover. If things are a bit inclement; then we put up our 1 pole 9foot x9 foot tent. we throw our mattress, sheets and covers in there in one half. the other half we get changed in, whilst standing up, and throw other gear in as well. This type of sensible camping is NEVER included in all these dumb-assed shows. We all love you Ronnie, but you still have a lot to learn. Nameste.
