Nothing overly complicated there - just a simple and functional setup with some ingenious hacks. I liked Dylan's philosophy too.
Thanks for another engaging video, Ronny. 👍
Seems like a decent bloke who keeps it nice and simple.
That Led Lenser head lamp is the best thing you can buy. Worth every penny.
ronny, this is what I love about this series. once again it shows, that out in the field the most clever things are invented by people who actually use it, live with it, and depend on it. not saying, 50% or even more from the catalogue are shite, but many, many things are designed with a pencil, not with experience .. keep em vids coming!
What qualifies as a weekend warrior camping setup in Australia qualifies as an extreme overlanding rig in America lol
Haha this is kinda next level weekend warrior here. Most of us weekend warrior's here don't have half this stuff. Contrary to RUclips, most Aussie's go camping in their family 2wd car with a tent and esky (cooler box) and maybe a gas cooker. And usually stay at paid camping sites or small donation public land camp sites. The fuel alone to get to remote places and home is thousands of dollars.
This sort of set up, even though its the cheaper stuff is too expensive for most people here. The vehicle alone without mods is usually most people's full budget. Tradies make LOTS of money and WA is full of mines so even more money in it for the surrounding industries and they can use their utes for work and claim lots on tax. Im a nurse and 46 and its taken me my lifetime to accumulate the gear a 25 year old tradie will have by 25.
Ronnie's ute would have cost him the price of my 2 bed unit Haha.
The cheap chinese gear market is big here even if its throw away after 3 uses its cheaper to just replace things every couple of years.
Its cheaper to fly to Thailand and stay in resorts for 2 weeks than to overland into remote areas. Im not short of a dollar either haha. But if I went out and bought a vehicle, modified it for overlanding and purchased all the equipment at mid/higher tier and factored in fuel and tyres and maintenance and parts for roughly 5 or 6 years of say, 4-8 weeks good overlanding and camping each year, it would come out about the same as a 3 bed house. Esp if you add a good camp trailer.
Ad in hunting gear and licences and access fees and major repairs and its a rich mans point of view you get from most youtubers.
sloth-e you’re spot on mate.
The drop bears are pretty fierce- gotta be prepared
That's why you carry the Fu bar
Love these vids. Seeing different people's bits n pieces and ideas is cool. Little hacks, different gear, mods, tools etc.
Even when most of us are 90% similar in our kit and set up, there's always that one thing you see that's new or different with each person. Or seeing that someone uses a blower on a fire or a modified tool or piece of metal in the same way i do, validates my idea or demonstrates a slight difference that I never thought of.
Loving this camping setup segments Ronny... lots of good practical ideas and use, keep em coming.
I never knew that I coud ask someone to let me go through there camping staff now I will after watching ur videos
So simple. So affordable. 2nd time Im watching. This is camping. Then we head off to Patriot and the organ sales begin
That's a great set-up. I love all the DIY custom stuff. It's fun to solve the problems yourself. Great video.
Got to agree with you Ronny. The cheap ebay head torches are so much better than the complicated ones with wires, battery packs and focus rings etc....
Totes!
Ronny Dahl
Could we have a link to your head torch Ronny?
Black Diamond headlamp
Loving these episodes, great tips ideas and hacks.
Ronnie repping the Pirate Life brew good work mate
Rooftop tents are great for young people, they can get up and down that damn ladder.
A seasoned adventurer being shown someone else's gear. One must respect the love of the outdoors is the common thread here. If we can learn from each other's experiences, shared knowledge, easier ways of doing things , a better off-road outback world this would be....
Love how I'm not the only one that prefers home pillows. I had a thermarest medium pillow initially but now I just use that in my hammock. I am dying to pick up an engel fridge myself then couple it with solar. Nice ride!
top setup Dillon, well thought out
"Pegs" were genius, so I'm gonna buy screws and do the same thing since I already have a impact driver in my car
I used to bring a plastic tube to blow through for getting air to the fire. Worked pretty good, if you could get past the obvious rude and funny remarks.
One of my favorite hacks is to use "Bridge Spikes" for tent/tarp pegs. They are like HUGE nails 10 inches long and 3/8 inch diameter. Great video. Always good to see what others have come up with. I do like the adjustable head lamp. I'll have to look into one of those.
classic man. loved it. happy trails to all
I noticed Dylan used his Maxtrax to level out his rig (good hack). I just bought some leveling blocks intended for RV's, they look like large Lego's you can lock and stack to build up height. I also have a RTT (Smittybilt) and never needed anything until my last camp in the Blue Ridge where there was no flat area to park, (had to use fire wood) havent use them yet but they look promising.
Smick nice rig and great video Ronny cheers
I weekend camp too with a GMC Canyon and enjoyed this video. Black Diamond makes some great headlamps in my opinion an I personally have two.
Great video! Love this little series so far
Finally, roof top tent! Nice!
Packed up my tent with my keys still in it once. Mates wanted to get going and I was looking everywhere for them.
Haha I know that feeling too well
I use my 300lpm compressor with an air gun the same way as the leafblower is used. It puts out so much air you can use it for lots of different things around camp and the car
Good work
Stanley FU Bars are still avalible on ebay there are two sorts.
Your next camping should be the land cruiser 120 episode 60 of rig run down.
2018 gripes about head torch, now look where we are
Great stuff guys, keep it up.
Rocking chair cushions (america) work great as seat cushions for the camp chairs. No slumping, circulation to legs is good, and warmer on breezy nights. (i hate cold buns)
Thanks for the video
can you up load a nother video like this ive watched it 8 times and i would love to see a new one 😍
Ronny, check out Nitecore NU30 400 Lumen headlamp. USB rechargeable, multiple brightness settings, super bright RED led and special leds just for closeup reading. 330 hrs runtime on low.
Not the only one up late/early then!
Yep, i bring a masonry drill bit to limestone campgrounds, your idea's even better.
THANK YOU DETAIL VIDEO
As always, a great video Ronny
What good fella, some great ideas.
Been watching you for 4 years or so now...
How about you interview an older chap, i mean 50+ or even 60+
I've learnt some of the most valuable and simple tips from travellers of this vintage.
And things i still have not seen on your channel to this date..
Just a thought, you really need to be speaking to right older guy tho.
Don’t rule it out mate, I’ll see what I can do
Blowers aren't anything new to us but if you haven't tried it get onto to it
Nice awesome thanks
For shower look for Gloria Auto pump, made in germany. !
Ronny you have mentioned doing a camp chair comparison. Have I missed that or are there any plans for a video?
Great job as usual 😁 LED LENSERS ROCK - TRY ONE RONNY! I started off with one like Dylan's and that was great - don't really need any other camp lighting with one of them! Since then I have moved onto a LED LENSER MH10 - kicks butt over the one in the video - lighter and has more functions as well as being lighter and rechargeable - get one mate your will be converted to the light side 👍😎
Tell Dylan to check it out too - is a much better light he would love it if he rated that so highly
*cough* Zebralight 😉
Looks like a darche intrepidor rtt if anyones wondering.
You mentioned about the roof tent model in the description?
Have a look at darche.com.au, good dependable gear..👍🏻
Driving this truck / jeep IS a drem cam Tru
You need to teach your mate about what a decent knife is. That ebay job is for kids
You gotta be fast around here
Dylan seems like a decent dude, great setup and love the water setup with taps. Not a drinker though I noticed? Ronny is getting into the pirate life IPAs but Dylan opted for the Kirks... no hate at all, just curious.
True.. no "coldies"!
This was ages ago. Gives me an idea how long it can take to release. Good work.
👍🏻
Hello!
Hi 👋
Although it's not popular, I'd highly recommend all roof top tents should be fitted as far forward as you can get them on the vehicle. Imagine a weighted line hanging from the centre point of the tent base going through the vehicle to show where the weight of it will be acting in various positions. Fitted at the rear on flat ground the weight is completely over the rear axle with very little being transferred to the front suspension. Now imagine the vehicle heading uphill, the weighted line will now be behind the rear axle causing a lifting action at the front axle which I'm sure we'll all agree on, is bad for traction. Now throw an off camber step/rut into the uphill section & the weighted line will now be behind one wheel so the weight will be acting completely on one suspension unit & also lifting the opposing front wheel off the ground. Again, not great for traction or stability.
Now move the tent to the front & replicate the conditions. As the weighted line will never pass behind the rear axle the weight will be acting on all 4 suspension units giving more stability & traction in all conditions. Seriously, it feels noticably different moving a RTT to the front, in a good way, so definitely give it a go 👍
Ignore the "Roof Top Tent Rack" B.S. where the tent has to go towards the rear, they're simply a marketing gimmick & put the tent in the worst place.
At 5:48 The female legs and shoes in the picture. It looks like a handshake shot, cut from a episode of Russel Coight. Lol...
Hey Ronny, i just bought a ford ranger xps tub and i want to know how can you set it up for offroad and camping or best advice is to upgrade to a tray? Tnx mate
Where did Dylan acquire his pointer from?
#Ronny Dahl why don't you like head lamps?
Jay G he does like head lamps just not those led lenser ones. He likes the $15 eBay ones.
What is an Eski ? A cooler ? Im not from around here , lol
Yeah
Can someone explain the "museum"?
Where can I get his pants that his wearing shoudve asked him
Bullshit it’s the same amount of time to pack away the roof top tent as it is a swag.
I didn’t catch what kind of screws are used as pegs that can go through rocks?
Coach Screws
@@stevehercules7372 Thanks. I think those are carriage bolts in US-speak. (I'm a bit surprised they will go through rock since they are designed for wood.)
Swag??
I have an awesome hack to add to this if you woukd like to know Ronny
