I'm turning 60 this year. Believe me, there is next to NOTHING out there in terms of fashion and makeup for my age range. All the faces and bodies are teenagers and twenty-somethings with bare midriffs. Do a search for 60, and there is an endless array of videos and articles about WHAT YOU CAN'T WEAR, and nothing else!
*Thank heaven for Wayne Goss*
I come to this channel, and I don't feel invisible, I don't feel talked down to, I don't feel dismissed. Always good, solid advice.
You're the best! ❤
I'm turning 70 this fall and I feel your pain! And on top of how hard it is to find clothes for mature women, I'm also plus size and petite.
Amen! I’m 71 & was just out shopping today. As I looked at some of the really adorable summer clothes, I thought, “Oh, to be 17 again & to be able to wear that!” Some things would just look ridiculous on us mature gals. Ditto for lots of the make-up looks. Yay for Wayne!
Check the Beth Djalaly channel "Style at a certain age", it's nothing but beautiful. Also "Fabulous Fifty", is a great channel for 50's and up
@@vincenzinabernabei4226 Thanks! I just checked her channel. Looks good.
A lot of the advice for us mature women is downright depressing and discouraging. For years now I've avoided any eyeshadow that was remotely shimmery and I never would have even thought of wearing anything shiny. But I''ve been exploring different makeup channels recently, including this one, and I've learned a few tricks that have changed everything.
One trick is to use concealer on my eyelinds before applying my primer. The other is to tap eyeshadow onto my lid instead of swiping it on. Using that technique and buying really good, finely milled shadows llike Charlotte Tilbury and Pat McGrath, I can wear shimmers and even metallics because tapping the shadow on gives a lovely sheer wash instead of unflattering glitter and gleam.
Wayne's concealer tricks are fantastic, too. I realized I had been apllying it all wrong, and certainly in the wrong place.
Wayne, I just want to remind you that you are one of the most attractive, handsome, beautiful men I have ever seen! You make aging look beautiful.
It goes without saying your heart is gold and you're a beautiful person. But I also wanted you to know you are simply gorgeous!
Please don't be too self critical, to others eyes, you are perfect ♡
He is very handsome, even after he's applied highlighter to the wrong spots.
Here here!🌹
And I love how he refers to aging as "progressing". So positive!
💯
Yes, exactly! I’m almost 50 and I had to figure this out myself. Highlight and contour depend so much on face shape that they should change from person to person. But we keep on seeing youtubers saying “highlight goes here, here and here”, as if everybody had the same face. Well, it depends on what is happening on your face. Thanks for teaching us again! 😊
So glad Wayne has pointed out that the fat pads move…I was trying to figure out what to do myself, opting for nose, Cupid’s bow instead. I have seen beauty you-tubers do make-overs on their mothers with the same old highlight techniques which, as you say, are not relevant as we don’t all have the same face. It’s most unflattering on a slightly older face for sure.
Wayne, I love how you say that you do these particular things for “your face shape.” Nod, nod, wink, wink. Your longtime fans know how you truly feel about that blasted nose tip highlight--on any face shape!! 🤣🤣 I love you…and your face. 😘
The end of the nose highlighting trend always made me laugh. 🤣
It’s looks like a lightbulb!
Same! Looks almost like a clown's red nose prop to me 🤡😄
Literally never done it!🤣
I totally agree. Looks like the Tin Man! 😂
now they are doing blush and highlight in the tip of nose and it looks like rudolph the famous reindeer
I am turning 70 this fall, and I have to be very careful about highlight where on my cheekbones I USED to wear it. I have developed very visible smile lines, so I now genrally put blush on and highlight a bit over the blush.
P.S. Highlight on the tip of the nose is a habit that needs to die and NOT just for older peoole. So many people who do it use WAY too much and look like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer's shinier cousin!!
Lol so true😂I never understood the n tip of nose.
Yes, the nose highlight is awful. It can be pretty on noses with little forward projection IF they do just a tiny dot. But so many people just brush back and forth over the whole tip and make their nose look more bulbous and greasy.
Yes! The nose highlight is the worst! I can't comprehend how anyone can think they look good with a glittery Rudolph nose 😂
@@krisdiane EXACTLY!!
@@krisdiane Overuse of highlighter can make the skin look metallic and, yes, greasy!
I am loving these videos because when I try to do a makeup and I'm learning from a 22-year-old it looks wonderful on her/him but on my 43-year-old skin not so much!
I turn 60 this year (how did this happen???) and I’ve always loved makeup. I like sparkle but I’m being much more subtle with it. I struggle with highlighter and I’m actually excited to try putting it further back on my cheek. Wayne, thank you for so generously sharing your expertise with us. You are very, very much appreciated.
These are actually good tips for ppl of any age. I see even a lot of teens and 20’s that will highlight for the trend, not for their face, and it shows by doing the opposite of what they THINK they are doing.
Having said that, I’m a huge fan of doing whatever the hell it is you like! ❤️
Yes! I question the use of highlighter on mature skin. I would much rather have moist skin with a subtle glow.
Hi Wayne-thank you for this video. Since the fat pads of my cheeks have dropped due to aging, I’ve been unsure of where to place my blush, and, to a certain degree, my highlighter when I wear it. This video has helped immensely and I really appreciate your advice for those of us over 40 and beyond.😊
I found out on my own about these particular areas as well. I so happy you're helping us find out other options. I was under the impression that the c zone and high cheekbone/ eye area were main highlight areas as well. Thanks Wayne. You always give such positive feedback. You are very appreciated.
Yes! I'm just figuring out where to highlight my face at 44 years old. The "top of the cheekbone" advice never worked for me, but I've been following your tip to highlight above the brow for years.
"...You want to avoid any areas that are heavily lined, or have excess texture...." You just described pretty much everything but my eyeballs. :-(
I’m 62 and I don’t use highlighter except lightly over top of blush. I never use a glittery one though as it doesn’t look good. Thanks for another great, informative video. God bless you!
I remember you mentioned an Ellis Faas highlighter many many years ago and I still use that one to this day for the most etherial glow on mature skin. You always give the best tips I don't see on other channels and you have definitely changed my routine for the better. Thank you so much!
I love that...."the way your face is progressing." So much kinder x
Wayne-53 and so far no fillers…highlighting almost opposite the way I did 10 yrs ago…also using darker foundation and not so matte, not putting contour any further in than the edge of my eyes-this has helped me-we really DO need to change our habits after 50!!!
As a 47-year-old, I appreciate this sort of advice. I've been avoiding getting highlight too high up of my cheekbones because it emphasizes the my crow's feet. I also can't highlight too close to my nose on the tops of my cheeks unless it emphasized the orange peel texture. There's a very small area where I can highlight on my cheeks. I find that a liquid or cream highlight looks way better on my skin than a powder highlight. Unless it's your powder highlight, then it's glorious. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this sort of a video. It's helpful to those of us who still want to wear makeup, but are dealing with changing territory.
You continue to amaze me. I'm 57 with thin Scandinavian skin, prominent blue veins are appearing around my eyes and temples. It's so easy to look up popular makeup tutorials and see the same patterns and fall into that cookie cutter way of doing things. Then, I watch your videos and find myself thinking....why didn't anyone tell me this before? You help us. You are so knowledgeable, sweet, genuine and humble. Thanks for all you do!!
I love this. I’m 30 but I have always had emphasized under eyes. Also, as I have fluctuated in weight and retain water due to blood pressure issues, I have to try to look at my face critically each time I do makeup. Thank you for this reminder to continue to do so ❤️
Thanks for the tips. While it seems logical that we evaluate our faces as they change, it's just too easy to keep applying makeup the way we always did. Loved the subject of the video as I recently turned 50 and can use all the pro-aging advice. Would've like a split screen, wrong vs right. Keep the mature beauty support coming!
Another great video of what to do vs what not to do when highlighting the face. Wayne Goss you know it all and I’m really happy about that! You’re my go to when I want to know “for sure” if I’m doing it right… Thank you for your time and the attention you give to each and everyone of us who learn from watching you. 🤩
Thank you! My mom has been getting into makeup lately and I'm finding that the same makeup that works for me as a 30 yr old than her as a 50yr old is not the same. This video was very helpful and I will experiment with a highlighter in different areas to see what works for her. Thank you!
More over 40 videos I am loving them!
Loving the realness and opening the convo on ageing🥰 personally, I've stopped using highlighter as I couldn't make it do "its thing" anymore. I concentrate on concealer, getting the skin texture filled in with serums, thin layers of foundation and baking power is my saviour, that stuff fills too without cracking! Obvs at night, I am using retinol, in day vitamin c serums and getting really good effect from a really ordinary No 7 factor 50 sunscreen, that actually fills pores, but that's not what it's sold as! I think trying to keep skin hydrated and supple is the best we can do if we can't afford surgeries, and take supplements 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Making sure I have false eyelashes on and good smudged eyeliner is also a godsend, my eyes are my feature even in ageing. They lift everything.
I am turning 50 this year, and I cannot tell you how thankful I am for videos like this! So many are geared to young people without the issues of aging skin. So please keep up your brilliant videos, especially the ones for those of us who are “experienced.” 😊❤️
I really love this approach. I like that instead of saying after age 40 throw out all your shimmer, he instead, is placing a more gentle reminder that as we age our face changes and with those changes it is necessary to allow our makeup techniques to evolve as well
Very informative video. Though I am tempted to highlight the “no no” areas of my face, you’ve convinced me less is more and finding “my” best areas. You’re adorable btw. Love your content 🙌
I love this! Thank you for the incredible advice, it’s helped me so much! It’s so much deeper than just the makeup it’s about self love and helping us embrace ourselves highlighting our best features. I have hooded eyes and I’m getting some lines on my cheeks so this is really helpful because sometimes I would do all this make up and then I feel like I look even worse. I’m 41 and I’ve been very sick so sometimes I feel like it’s affected my looks but these videos have helped me so much! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for your clear explanations and demos! Trying to figure out highlighting as I age was frustrating because sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. Now I get why. You keep me from giving up on the fun that is makeup.
SO much better when one side of the face wrong and one right, much easier to understand. When the whole face is done it's harder to remember what NOT to do. Thanks lovely boy.
Really love it when you demonstrate on each half of your face what not to do and what to do as you did in your previous concealer video. Thank you for all of your advice, hugs!
Wayne, you’re so good at knowing how to make-up your own face that I’ve wondered if you wear make-up on a daily basis. Thanks for being so sweet and informative. Love your videos.
These are great tips and I agree with you! I’ve been applying highlighter only in the areas that you are recommending since I was in my early 20s, and now 10 years later, it still looks great and natural. I never cared for the dramatic highlight or any type of contouring. Always love your videos! Thank you 😊
Thanks, Wayne for the clear instruction on highlighting the mature face. At 62 I'm finding it challenging to keep a fresh and glowy look and so began using highlighter after watching some other makeup artists but wasn't happy with the results. Your video just showed me WHY it wasn't working. Now I'll try again with a lot more understanding of what will work for me.
You are just lovely ! I normally banish all make up videos from my feed because the ‘experts’ are mostly unrecognisable before/after. Each to their own but that’s not for me. You have such a lovely way of encouraging people to find beauty in themselves and make their best features work for them. You do it in a honest but still kind & gentle way. I love the little wave at the start of all your videos! Thank you for sharing your expertise & look forward to the next tutorial 😊
As someone who has watched and follow you since 28, I am 40 now and I really appriciate these tips. Thank you. ❤️
Thanks for making this vid. I turned 61 this year and I realize I can't highlight like the youtubers. I discovered the best areas for my face to highlight are exactly as you described. Good to know I'm on the right track! Thank u Wayne! 💕❣💕
Thank you for these tips! Always on point, short and concise. Love you!
I love your videos and your comments! They really show you so much love and it’s so pleasant to see in this weird world of everyone having an opinion on social media.
Wayne! Wow you really hit the nail squarely on the head! I have some really pretty highlighter and now I am going to approach it differently now. This was a VERY helpful video and thank you! The sweetest, most intelligent creator of makeup/skincare videos on YT.
Omgs you are already highlighted from the inside dear!! That's what truly shines on you! Make up is wonderful, along with all your amazing tips. Yet, nothing can touch the highlights of your naturally kind and beautiful soul you radiate!!
I just turned 40!! Great timing with helpful content. Thank you for sharing your skills and experience with us all here on RUclips 😊
I see other women with waayy too much highlighter on, and hoping they see your video. 😊 I’m a a certain age 🤣 where I can only wear a touch of it, and that’s over my blush, which I keep up higher on my cheeks, otherwise, it’ll show texture. I found a highlighter that isn’t sparkly, and has no color, just looks dewy when light hits it. The eyes are a real challenge, hooded, and small. I envy the women who have room to be creative with their eye shadow, but we just have to work with what we’ve got ! 😉 You’re looking good, as always, and thanks for
the info ! Have a nice weekend ! 🦋🌞🌸
Hi Debbie how're you doing today?
Thanks Wayne!
I'm 44 this month. Your tips (😁) and tricks are amazing for us regular folks.
Have always always hated the glowing lightbulb nose highlight
This is one of the most helpful videos yet. I had no real idea about how to use highlighter for my specific features
🤯 NEVER thought of the cheek bone accentuating sunken under eyes. THIS is why you're so needed!! Thank you!!!
Thanks so much for this video! There have been times when I have tried highlighter on the standard, suggested areas, and it has done nothing but age me. Your reminder that we need to do what works for us is perfect!!
Thank you Wayne!! Short, relevant, and to the point!! ❤
This is such a GREAT video!! Such amazing helpful tips for us that aren’t MUA’s! You are truly gifted in your profession and you always provide the best tips!!! Thank you 💜
Love this! Thanks Wayne! I would definitely be interested in continuing to watch your videos on make up for the over 40s, especially hooded eyes, crepey skin around the eyes, lip lines and disappearing lips for lipstick!
Great message Wayne!!! I am still amazed when I see some of your old videos with your cheeks being so full and rounded. It is amazing how our faces change over time from our young adult years. At 52, I place highlighter on my cheek bone, inner eye and a thin line on the brow bone. I would never put it on the tip of my nose that I contour but some people on their videos place such a prominent harsh highlighter dot on the tip and it looks so unnatural and strange even as it's too much in the amount which is what I mainly see the younger ladies doing.
What a great video... I hadn't really thought about the placement so much but I will be keeping it in mind now! You look fabulous Wayne :-)
I'm 52, deep tan complexion and only recently started wearing makeup regularly - thank you Laura Geller and you Wayne. A while ago, I watched a video where to suggested that we not buy highlighter, but use something appropriate from any eyeshadow palettes we already own. So I had a look today and found something. Then I said, now let me go see where Wayne suggests I put said 'highlighter(eyeshadow). I love how straightforward your videos are. You are open, honest, and I truly appreciate you. You're my go to guru. ❤❤
You always give such good advice. Always interesting and so down to earth. Thank you!!
Wayne Goss you are Fabulous!!! Your 13 points, I think it was for applying foundation has totally changed my game and my makeup looks so very much better! Also your tip for applying concealer is the best way I have ever tried on my 60ish year old skin! Your tips are invaluable!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!!
Ow my honey pie!! You “don’t have trouble zones” you’re so so cute! And im so happy with your honesty, makes me feel it’s confident to cover some “trouble zones” and don’t feel like a cheater! thank you! You’re beautiful! No matter your age! You will always be my inspiration !💋💋💋💋💋💋💋
Another stellar and informative video - thank you Wayne! Appreciate that you talk about both the don'ts and the do's on this one
Thank you I am 55 and this was so helpful, I have just bought a lovely liquid highlighter that my younger friend uses and I was feeling apprehensive about where to use it on myself! Loving your posts on mature faces and think you are fab ! 😀
I love when you make these types of videos I have somewhat of the same problem with the C area near my cheek I've learnt over the years to stay away from that spot Thanks Have a great weekend ❤️
Thank you for these aging skin videos! I'm 37 and noticed some years ago that I cannot apply makeup the same way I used to in my 20s and early 30s. It is so frustrating to tell someone what I know I need and have them tell me I don't have mature skin, and then continue applying my makeup like they would on 20 something skin. I'm getting married in a few months and the MUAs I've been to have convinced me to do my own makeup for my wedding. One used highlighter everywhere, both used an airbrush application which I hated and told them that I did, neither application matched my neck or chest and neither wanted to blend the makeup down onto my neck and chest... instead one wanted me to get a spray tan so that he makeup matched my skin better. It was dry and crepey, didn't hide my deep set under eye area at all, and there was way too much blush way high up on my cheekbones which doesn't look good on me. So I'm very appreciative for these videos.
i thank the makeup gods you are to the point, keep it short, informative and real! thank you!!!!
Yes! My fat pads have dropped and there’s just loose skin due to weight loss! So not just aging......lucky me! Fantastic video to remind us to look at our own face shape when contouring and highlighting. You mentioned fixing the dropped fat pads with concealer - I would love to see you demonstrate that technique! Thank you so much! Just received your face palette and blush palette and am enjoying them so very much! 💖
Hi Wayne, I work in a large skincare and cosmetic store as a host, I'm the oldest staff member by about 17 years and have only recently trained as a makeup artist at age 46. I love your videos and frequently recommend your channel to customers as there is so little information or inspiration available for mature women on social media. I have a real passion for makeup for mature skin and hope to start holding classes as I gain more knowledge and experience. Thanks so much for all you do and your willingness to share what you know. 😊
Hello! I hope you are having a wonderful day. I was busy in my sewing room all day sorting out scraps of fabric. I hope you have a joyful week ahead. Thank you for posting your video!
That C is the bane of my highlighting existence. Thank you Wayne for this!
I'm not sure what hole I've been living in, but I've never heard of you before. Your makeup techniques are lovely, and your voice is so soothing. Thank you for this video.
Wayne I LOVE your videos! I'm 34 and even on me, the highlighting of the under eye cheek bone doesn't look good on me...I've learned it looks so much better on me on the outer cheek bones, like you mentioned. I live how all I can learn from all of your videos, even as a younger woman. Makes me not fear getting old!
What a great set of tips! Inspired mr to try a couple of finger-tip size highlight spots. Very pretty without looking overdone. Thank you!
Thank you for helping us 40 + year olds :) I was never taught as a young woman & really value your help:)
I love your videos💜
Great tips, thankyou. Never really thought that it would highlight your problem areas. It is hard getting older and trying to look your best x
Another amazing video Wayne and your advice is totally a treasure for me. 💗
So far I can highlight most area's on my face, but I am getting a little crepy skin, so I definitely avoid highlighting that. Joy! 😊
Thank you so much for this one Wayne! Excellent advice, I’ve got the same problem areas as you, so right up my street 🥰
Always The Best Wayne! 💖
Thanks Wayne, very educational, love how you explained the light and shade principal.
I try and avoid taking a critical look at my face as much as possible!! This is a really useful video, im 58 and find i use less and less highlighter, and shimmer eyeshadows now, i tend to use more matt shadows, and have a matt bronzer that I've been using a lot, its good for doubling as eyeshadow, & blusher day to day. Your tips on where you can use highlighter are really helpful! Wouldnt have though of above the brow bone! Great video, as always! Thank you!
Why have I not found you earlier in my life!! I love your videos, thank you so so much ❤️
Another Wayne Goss video added to my makeup 2022 playlist. I’m 42 and looking to update my routine.✌🏾
I love how you don't think any feature of the face or aging is unattractive, just something we deal with. Your tips are always logical and kind and I love it!
Wayne do not be hard on yourself!! You are so great and professional and your work is very useful. Aging is for everybody - we all have to deal with it!
Love it, love it love it! Thanks again Wayne!
Thanks Wayne! I watch these lovely RUclipsrs talk about the highlights that they love and I’ve been thinking then they just don’t look good on me. I really appreciate your advice and pointing out these things about proper placement.
This was a very helpful video Wayne. I will certainly be more aware when applying highlighter. Thank you!!
I am SO grateful for this series!for this knowledge, mostly im grateful For you, Mr Goss. In other news I received my very first Wayne Goss brush!!! (Edit 04, I believe its called) Im so excited to get home to wash it to get it moving. Great knowledge, thank you for sharing it 😀
I love highlighter and now I know where I should be using it.. thank you so much 😊
Mr. Goss, sir, you are an amazing spirit. Thank you so much for this "over 40" vein you have been striking. The tips have been helpful.
I've been afraid of highlighter for this very reason. Your videos are always so helpful.
Hi Wayne, another brilliant video, thanks so much!!!! I'm 51 years old, not a ton of wrinkles but aging of course. I still love makeup from PMG/ND those kind of beautiful brands, but stopped buying highlighters from them, and gave the ones i had to younger friends. Now i only want subtle highlighters, but don't have that much highlighters anymore. And i only use your Artist collection brushes for that, the ones with the wooden handles, so that the effect is more in control! But i love to learn here, what wonderful new (or new for me) ideas from you, thank you so much, love you and your Channel!!!!
OMG “the way your face is progressing.” That is so cute.
OMG 😱 BRILLIANT AND SOOO HELPFUL 🙏👍👏👏!!! Thank you Wayne, you’re as always, spot on 👌❤️
Absolutely BRILLIANT advice-thank you!!! More please, exact placement, on your face (I say selfishly because we have the same bone structure and face shape). Sincerely, thank you so much. It’s the first time it’s been presented like this to me and it makes perfect sense. 💙xx
Thank you so much. I always learn so much from your videos. You’re fantastic!
Thank you, Wayne. Really useful advice, as usual.
Thank you, Wayne. 💜 Very helpful!
Thank You this was wonderful and helps us so very much.
My chin! I can't highlight it, because it's kinda got little dimples.
The tip of nose - I sure don't want to make it look even BIGGER!
I can apply a tiny bit of non-sparkly highlighter on the high point of my cheekbones.
I'd love to be able to "let rip and glow like a beacon" though, it must be wonderful.
Highlighting the bottom lip is a new one to me but I thought it looked so pretty 😍
Love you Mr Goss, 💗💗💗
Thank you Wayne! I’m 35, but I feel like your tips are super useful as I age. Love your content. ❤️
