Awesome. This is how a car/track review should be done. A lot of work but great to watch and good info.
Thats a very well done show. I love how you analyze every aspect of the timed lap to show us how the cars perform instead of just cutting in a few pretty pictures. Very very nice.

For what? It's obvious the M4 is the faster car, since it has the same base while having more power and a sportier chassis.

The M5 and M4 have same vehicle dynamic control and stiff damper, however, the stability control is more effective in M4 due to light weight and the lighter it is, less mass pushing through the front tire for less push and understeering. However, the M5 is heavier although it's bulk through a turn but a bit more stable "physically". Anyway, I'll go for the M5.
The Evo channel is on fire this week with all the uploads! Really appreciate the technical breakdown between lap times. Dan keeps getting better and better in front of the camera. Thank you for the excellent video.

It should be M3 VS M5 or M4 VS M6.
I'd love to see M3 v M5 v M6 Gran Coupe, it would make more sense to put the four door cars against each other.

Eric M Not a valid comparison. Corvette and Camaro are different platforms. M3 and M4 are a shared platform, M5 and M6 are a shared platform. The only thing that splits the 2 door and 4 door Ms is 20kg and a few cm in height.

E60 M5 vs. F10 M5.. Please! I would love to see the improvements between the generation and the difference in which is better to drive. Naturally aspirated or turbocharged? I would love to see that Evo.

The difference is very slim, I wonder if BMW will let the M2 be as fast as the M3/M4 like the old 1M was.
Hmm will be interesting, the M2 is gonna have around 380HP (I think, not sure) and it'll weigh a hell of a lot lighter so you never know.

Last time it was jump from 306 to 340 so now i think it will be pretty similar.

Due to the fact he runs the M4 as a daily and will know the car inside out, you have to wonder how much influence this has had on the result of this test.
He looked like he didn't hit a few apex right in the M5.

I'd still buy the M5 if i could afford it.
i have the M5, the M4 is better for city the M5 is a distance monster to travel one country to another in comfort and luxury. they could setup more the m5 as the m4 to be less comfortable but then it wouldnt be a M5. in short you pass a ferrari in a M5 with the massage on and total relax.

Wow! This was so well done! I really appreciated the bumper camera and pausing it to see the positioning and gap. For a 4 door family saloon to be that close on track to the lighter, more nimble, shorter wheelbase M4…the M5 is mighty!

all come up short to the e39 m5 though. there just isn't a sexier BMW than that!

both are amazing but I prefer the m5 More cause it have good looking design 4 door more comfortable a handy control higher top speed and accrelation and finally it have the monster v8 yes I love the stright line 6 but that 4.4 v8 is just monster
mohand prince but it costs $40k more than the M4 only to loose the race lol true fact
I personally like the sound of the in line 6 cylinder much better

The M4 with the manual gearbox does have 4.3 seconds from 0-62.
But the one you tested, with the DKG only have 4.1 seconds.

Well done guys! A great review and track video comparison. I couldn't call this tie a win though. And in any F1 long circuit with 2 long straights and mix of corners, M5 would be at least some tens in front.

Kingsley Mpofu You sir are sadly mistaken, look up motor trends video of the e63 amg-s vs the m5 and you will see how bmws overrates their engines. Just like the B7 in their b7 vs audi s8 video they go to a dyno on both videos and show bmws overrate their engines, whereas mercedes and audi highly underrate their engines. Go take a look, the numbers dont lie.
Michael Brunnhoelzl I really dont see how you can say that when all bmw models, M3, M4 and M5 can keep up if not beat the equivalent mercedes and audi. Most Bmw models put out less power than audi or mercedes but still are strong competitors because of the driving dynamics.
daisy may well that m5 in that video couldnt keep up with the e63 amg s but then again it did have 4matic. But the premise of the guy aboves comment still stands, on the dyno the e63 was makign more power than claimed and the bmw was the opposite. Also when this new c63 is properly released, im sorry, but it will most probably take a dump over the m3/m4. Nearly 80-90 bhp more and a much better interior. Why would any sane person who isnt biased buy an M3/M4 over a c63?
supaahflyy well, i'm biased. and the c63 doesn't look as good or handle quite as well.
***** hah atleast you can admit it. I much prefer the m4 looks but it doesnt light a candle to the new c63 in terms of performance. The reviews ive seen of it suggest that it does handle just as well if not better than the m4 so the gap between driving characteristics has been closed by mercedes

Good but a road test would be far more interesting given the real use most owners will have.
Great review and I would still take the M5 over the 4. Roomier, more comfy and fast as hell in a straight line.

M5 should meet Tesla P85D on a track. That would be a very interesting battle. Best petrol sedan vs best electric sedan.
From a roll (real life encounter) M5 would pull so hard on it.
Not really because M5 is 5 times the car Tesla will ever be.
I guess as most of the times Tesla will win a drag race to speeds around 100 miles/h and lose there after. It will also lose as soon as you get to the first bends. There are YT videos of Tesla S vs M5 and Tesla can do only ONE lap at top power before the cars system shuts down the power level to stop the battery from over heating and starting a fire. Car & Driver tried it many times on their long term Tesla S with the same results. The track times? At best Tesla S was 2 sec slower than M5 around Laguna raceway.
***** Ive came very close to running out of gas (I-70 Kansas) before I pulled into the pump. M5 gives plenty of warnings before fuel is completely gone.

I cant speak for the p85D. But I have been challenged from highway speeds 60mph and pulled on the Tesla extremely hard.

I agree, but i think BMW is to "blame" and wants to show the new M4 and it's easier for them to deliver a M4 press car than a M, especially when it's Evo's own long test M4.
Same car as M4 just more doors.
Plus he said that the m4 he's been driving, so it makes sense to test that.
MKUltra Rex There's a weight and a slight width difference actually, if I'm not mistaken.
The m4 is on long term test so it was probably just easier for them to do that than to ask BMW for an m3.
Exactly like the week I spent with the M4! On the road it was bad no other word for it! I felt like it was rolling and it was uninspiring! But around willow springs it was unbelievably good! While the steering felt bland on the road, on track it was really good! More load in the tires equals more feel! The damping was really good! And it pulls so hard in a straight line! I liked it more than the 991 on track! On the road the 991 is more fun!

I want to see Cayman GTS vs M4
The M5 is an Autobahn car, it shines with luxury and speed, for a businessman, who drives from one town to another in Germany, with no speed limits, the M5 is the best choice, for a track car it is obviously too heavy, on a short tricky track it gives up to a lot of underpowered cars, but it is still a luxury sport sedan, built for longer commutes on a freeway.
