Amazon, and things purchased online want payment before shipping your items!

I learned this lesson the hard way. I use to take payment at pick up and then one person ghosted me and never came to get their cake and that changed it for everybody. Now I require 50%percent at booking which I use to get ingredients and supplies. Other 50% due at pick up or no cake, and that has been working, but I think going into the new year, I'm going to request payment in full beforehand. Do you think you can do some square tutorials? I just recently started using then but not really liking my set up etc.

I just had this happen to me. She paid me through PayPal with an e-check and I got a notification today that it did not go through. She is my friend. I do not want to hound her for money but I also want to be paid like we agreed upon. I am going to take your advice here. Not to mention she called me just one week before she needed it. It was for her 4 year old so I didn’t want to say no. Lesson learned.

I don't make cakes but love watching smart women run businesses. I have a crochet business and make this beanie. Billy Gibbons beanie from ZZ TOP. Absolutely, they pay before I even begin to make the beanie. I also have a no return policy because of health and safety and if they order the wrong size. Usually, there is always 1 at the holidays. Because they didn't measure their head, or Mom didn't ask what size. Smart lady and you will still be in businesses 5 years from now while everyone else is scratching heads wondering what went wrong.

I don't make decorated cakes. Only pound cakes and some layer cakes. I require full payment in advance 99% of the time. I accept orders w/o payments from a very select few people. Nope, not even deposits.

I’m glad I stumbled across your page. I will be taking 50% before the order is started. I had a scare when I had an order and didn’t get the money right away. Took a few hours to see the money for the full payment

Yes, I made this mistake this week. Doing a favor for a friend. I normally ask for a deposit before I start an order. This was an order for 10 Cocoa bomb Christmas cut for a daycare center. Sent her the invoice and didn’t request a deposit. She was fine with everything. Today (12/17/23) she cancelled with an excuse that the parents didn’t think the children wouldn’t drink them. What’s so funny, one of the parents works with me. She was the one who gave her my info because the daycare owner was looking for someone who makes them. My coworker knows that I do wonderful work and she knew that I would go well beyond what other people do. She was looking forward to what her twin children would be bringing home. My coworker also made an order to have for her other child to bring to school for his teachers. I’m not happy about this, and I’ll get through this, but from now on everyone pays a deposit. I don’t care who they are!

I have learned the hard way. People will screw you over. I require a 50% down payment first and the rest when picked up. Or they can pay in full when placing the order (for local customers). But if I have to ship anything then a full payment is definitely required. Also, if they don't pick up before or on the said due date there will be no refund. Because at this point the agreement has been made per order contract. I do offer delivery but with an extra fee of $10 (local) or $20 if the delivery is more than 20 miles from my city. And that's for anything I do. Baking or crafting and even doing hair. Because these online stores and even your local grocery store want their payment up front. And lets not forget the shipping. You have to factor that in as well. But for my die-hard customers I do give a loyalty discount and/or a new customer referral discount. Because you have to keep your customer coming with some sort of discount. But the discount is not all the time. If that make sense.

I learned the hard way and had 2 people not collect in the same week. 😭 One of them was my husband’s friend. After that, 50% deposit and balance due before pick up. I’m trying to implement payment in full is due at the time of placing an order but not sure how people will react. I just don’t want to deal with the “harassing” people to pay up.

Oof! So frustrating! Just go for it. It’s your new policy and you can inform your customers of that. Some may not like it but you have to protect yourself.

I found the video and so happy, but wondering when you use your buttercream frosting recipe for the cookie butter mini cakes, do you use the velvety one or the basic with 3 ingredients? TY I will making these today and I'll let you know how they came out. My husband is my "professional"' :) taster! TY so much!

I'm planning on taking 50% on orders for ingredients which is non-redundable 7 days before delivery and the remaining 50% the day before delivery.
    How does that sound ?

I want to know how to handle the health department as they don’t allow most foods to be made in a home environment & it’s mandatory they come check out all places that charge for food items. Can you tell us how to get by baking from home & dealing with the health department codes? Thank you
