I soak all my fruit including berries and veggies in cold water and white vinegar and then I place them on a towel to dry. After that, I go over everything with paper towels/ or a clean dish towel and make sure they are very dry and I store them in the fridge in glass containers. They last a very long time 😉🍓🍒🍅🥦🥕🥒🍆🍎.

I always try to buy the "freshest" looking ones. The organic and more "delicate" produce tend to go bad first but I store blueberries in Mason jars and strawberries, raspberries I store in a single layer in glass containers and they last for about 2 weeks. I shop at Costco, the Whole sale market ( Downtown LA) or the organic produce warehouse ( Downtown LA too) so I get a lot of it every time I go. The bell peppers, mini cucumbers and zucchini seem to love the vinegar bath too!. I do the same thing with them but I store them in reusable plastic bags in the fridge. I hope that is helpful 🤗.

The potato and onion one...I had no idea. I have been keeping my potatoes and onions right next to each other for years. Some of my onions do get mouldy and mushy... But I just peel the first few layers off and it's fine. I will be keeping them farrrrr away from each other now. Thank you
I juice my ginger and freeze it in an icetray. So when i need some i can take just a portion out. I also dry some fruits and make for example applechips or fruit leather. And i also dry root vegetables and with greens like kale i make chips; they are sooo yummy.

So, i really love avocados, and i found out that you can also put them in the freezer to preserve them. Mine go bad after about 3-4 days, so if i have a few avocados i just cut them open and place them in a ziploc bag and then keep them in the freezer until i am ready to use them. I learned this after seeing avocados in the frozen fruit section of the grocery store and i just figured i could just freeze my own.

Lemon or orange peel, I throw them in drawer under oven until they dehydrate completely. Whiz up in blender to powder, use as citrus cleaner, as flavor in foods asking for zest, and in my RV Black Tank to deodorize. Don't flush paper in RV tank, clean smell, no clogs🚐😁🌞🌴

With the pandemic, I wash everything right away. Then, I soak them in vinegar for about 10 minutes. I never know who's hands have touched them. I have been very successful in extending the life of my organic kale. After washing the separated leaves. I wrap them in a cotton t-towel/dish towel (I purchased mine from IKEA). I store them in a plastic storage bag, Then place them in my refrigerator. I have had them last for two weeks. They are all fresh and crisp just like the day I purchased them. I learned this from another RUclipsr, Stacy Flowers.
Red peppers -- I chop these and store in the freezer -- LEEKS -- I wash and chop and store in the freezer As I cook meals I add from these frozen veg bags -- they cook fast -- I only buy frozen broccoli. I steam and portion our potatoes if they are getting old -- freeze and use in meals

I grow a ton of fruits, veg, herbs, and flowers in my garden. If I have a super harvest, I try to share with others in the neighborhood or trade with gardener friends. I also prep and freeze extra bounty, like peppers, onions, squash, herbs in EVOO, tomato confit, etc. You can look up the best way to prep and freeze online and then enjoy summer throughout the year! I also freeze a ton of fruit if I grow it or get extra bounty at the farmer's market. So great in smoothies, oatmeal, etc.
Love the tips..... i usually use Seran Wrap to individually or double wrap carrot, cucumber, potato, courgette, tumeric, ginger etc..... this also prolong veggies and fruit for WEEKS!

When you buy avocados get them hard put them in the fridge after about 4 days they start to ripen take out what you need leave them on the counter the we be good to go in 24-48 hours enjoy
A tip I heard somewhere is to not store bananas with other fruits and veggies as they'll speed along their ripening process and things will go bad more quickly.
Thank You for the tips. I thought grocery store sold me bad onions. 😆. After seeing this video, I immediately separated my potatoes, onions, ginger, and garlic.
With fruits, I often find that when they go bad, it starts around the areas where the fruits are touching each other. I assume that's both from the buildup of trapped moisture, and from the force 'bruising' the skin of the fruits. So, I tend to sort my fruit such that the softer, more ripe (especially overripe) should be at the top. And I try to avoid stacking fruit too high in the fruit bowl. In general, it's CRUCIAL to ensure fruits and soft veggies don't get bruised, if we want to keep them fresh longer. Bruises aren't always visible, but can be evident to the touch, so either don't buy bruised produce, or eat those first, and make sure your groceries don't get any unnecessary bruises on their journey to your home, nor when you store them. With citruses, I've had them stay good for up to two weeks, non-refrigerated, if they were kept very dry. The skin would look cracked or wrinkled and dull, but the inside was still fresh as ever. However, that was with non-organic, not sure if organic would behave the same.
Literally thought about this yesterday. Noticed that the frozen veggies were gone in the store but the fresh ones were well stocked! Because nobody wants to keep going back to the store for fresh produce ☹️

You can keep turmeric in the freezer too. Easy to use a bit whenever you need it.

Yes! You can blanch to freeze them. Lay on parchment paper to freeze after blanching and cooling. That way they won't all stick together :)

A tip I heard somewhere is to not store bananas with other fruits and veggies as they'll speed along their ripening process and things will go bad more quickly.

Thank You for the tips. I thought grocery store sold me bad onions. 😆. After seeing this video, I immediately separated my potatoes, onions, ginger, and garlic.
With fruits, I often find that when they go bad, it starts around the areas where the fruits are touching each other. I assume that's both from the buildup of trapped moisture, and from the force 'bruising' the skin of the fruits. So, I tend to sort my fruit such that the softer, more ripe (especially overripe) should be at the top. And I try to avoid stacking fruit too high in the fruit bowl.
In general, it's CRUCIAL to ensure fruits and soft veggies don't get bruised, if we want to keep them fresh longer. Bruises aren't always visible, but can be evident to the touch, so either don't buy bruised produce, or eat those first, and make sure your groceries don't get any unnecessary bruises on their journey to your home, nor when you store them.
With citruses, I've had them stay good for up to two weeks, non-refrigerated, if they were kept very dry. The skin would look cracked or wrinkled and dull, but the inside was still fresh as ever. However, that was with non-organic, not sure if organic would behave the same.

A tip to avoid your potatoes from sprouting and have longer life is to put one or two apples beside them.
Literally thought about this yesterday. Noticed that the frozen veggies were gone in the store but the fresh ones were well stocked! Because nobody wants to keep going back to the store for fresh produce ☹️

Anytime I browse I see things about the food pyramid which is cool but that's it. I want my kids to learn more about the benefits of certain foods like how certain foods are good for your skin, hair, digestive system and so forth. However, something that is still engaging for a child. Do you have any suggestions?
