Only thing is Kim, after washing veggies I would not store them back in the same bags they come in. Reason is, any bacteria that was on the veggies before washing them is likely in the bag. Therefore, you are recontaminating them.

If you want less waste, so avoiding excess paper towel use, I recommend flour sack towels. I am part of a CSA and pick up my veggies every 2 weeks. I use a bunch of flour sack towels to wrap up the items needed. Like greens. It works just as well and you just toss in the wash when done.

It’s amazing how they keep growing. I was blown away when I learned that. However, just a little fyi I discovered, they lose much of the flavor after the first cutting or 2. Basically, because they’re living in just water, no nutrients from the soil, it’s more like lettuce after awhile. 😂

When I bring strawberries home from the store I take the green tops off, wash them and put them in a canning jar and they last at least 2 weeks in the fridge. I also take my lettuce and put it in a canning jar and use my jar sealer with my food saver and it stays good much longer. Great tip about the mushrooms, never heard that before. Anxious to try it. Oh and for avocados, if I cut in half to use, I store the half with the put in a canning jar and then use the jar sealer again because it takes all the air out and it lasts so much longer.

Kimmy, next time try leaving the washed lettuce in the salad spinner. It has never lasted more than 3 days for me when I cut, wash, and place in bowl or plastic bag with paper toweling. The spinner allows for proper air flow and keeps the lettuce crisp. I do all the heads and it keeps for a good week.
I have better luck leaving the celery whole (I like to use the tops/leaves in stocks) and wrapped in paper toweling. No bag. Again helps with air flow.
And berries I never wash. We wash as we eat/use. I have 2 week old blue berries from a farm that are still good. Left in their original package.
I would be careful storing lemons stacked like that. Leads to rot/mold. Best to keep flat and in a storage container that you csn get the air out of.
Of course I food prep differently and only do so for 3 days. By the end of the week carrots are floppy and celery is saggy.

Using papertowels inside of bags, etc. With my things like coleslaw tho.... papertowels on both side... but I fold the top down about 3 times, then just pop on 3 clothspins! Carrots and celery if you cut them small enough to fit in a mason jar and fill it up with water they both will last a long time in your refridge. Your scallions or green onion, if you put them in a glass of water on your counter they will last for a long time and you will notice that they will continue to grow and you can take nips off of that for garnish or put it in your food

Great tips! I store berries on a shelf in the middle of fridge and only wash them right before we use them. They will last a week this way.

Thank you so much for this video! Can anyone recommend a good purple onion storage video to me? That's why I came here, although I ended up finding much more interesting information 😊

Advice I have for green onions when you cut the bottoms off set the bottom in a mason jar with water and set it near the kitchen window and they regrow within 2-3 days. You save so much money & get more for free

You can put a paper towel or rag on the top of the spinach (lid side) and just flip it - it stays fresh for weeks.
