The biggest missed opportunity of Godzilla vs Kong is that they didn't bring this guy in for an Original vs Robot Double tag team match. MechaGodzilla felt like such a random villain for a KKvG remake on his own.

Takara Tomy doesn't have the toy rights to either Kong or Toho monsters. The zoids are a tribute model kit design just enough different so the IP holder can't sue. Also the Nintendo case made Kong generic enough after Universal sued over Donkey Kong sounding like King Kong and the court decided using just the word Kong didn't cause confusion so they didn't have a case.

A lot of people don’t know that Mechani Kong actually came before Mechagodzilla. Mechani Kong’s debut film came in 1967, a full 7 years before Mechagodzilla’s debut.
One thing I always found a bit confusing: if Mechani-Kong was unable to mine Element X due to shutting down in the proximity, what exactly made Doctor Huu think the actual, biological Kong would fare any better against the intense radiation? I always figured he would have done better to just upgrade the robot instead.

In 1975, Universal discovered that the copyright of the Lovelace novelization had expired without renewal, thus making the King Kong story a public domain one. This was up until 1976 then after was a case against Nintendo that universal lost.
I know there's a lot of Doctor Who jokes thanks to the villains name, but in my headcannon the Doctor Who from King Kong Escapes is the evil brother to the Peter Cushing Dr. Who from the two Dalek movies, meaning the Dr. Who from King Kong Escapes is an equivalent to the Master, a villain from the Doctor Who TV series. I only have this headcannon because I really want to see a crossover where Godzilla saves the world from a Dalek invasion.
Atari wanted to use Kong for Godzilla Unleashed, but Universal demanded a million dollars for his use. I think Mechani-Kong was also considered but it would have required the same amount, because at the time Universal was really being a stickler about rights and renting them. As a comparison, all the Toho monsters in Unleashed only cost $25,000 each for use. As for the films, we can blame Ted Turner for Toho not being able to use Mechani-Kong, because the asshole said MK was too much like the real Kong and therefore either belonged to him or was infringement.
