My daughter had asked me who I hired and I talked you up so much "The Vancouver Carpenter" Well I also had in my living room for many years two hair line cracks on my ceiling coming off my fire place. So I tackled that project last week. My daughter comes over and I am admiring it. She says "Who did you get to do that the Vancouver guy again" I said yep, yes I did and he did an amazing job!

Vancouver Carpenter: I need a video. I bought an sweet old redoak door. It is about a 2x4 size too short. The threshold is metal (non adjustable with nothing underneath) and currently goes straight to concrete. I would love to have a video on a couple suggestions and demonstration on how to make it work.
Paper-faced corners. What a deal! Beats the mailed-in all-metal beads (and stapled bull nose). Question: if the overhead section had run into a vertical section, would you miter or just leave an open corner?
Help me out on a question please: Are you supposed to precut the corner of the drywall slightly before installing cornerbead? My drywall contractor mentioned they do not have their drywall making a sharp edge/corner, they leave a 1/4” gap at the very corner so that the metal cornerbead flexes into position leaving a more rounded finish. This reduces those nicks you see at the very edge when its all painted.
All purpose mud is generally good for taping. It has adhesive mixed in. You're better off using a lightweight for topping/ floating as it sands easier than all purpose.
@Vancouver Carpenter. In the US what mud would you use for installing corner bead and taping? Hot mud like Durabond? I know everyone debates it, but I would appreciate your opinion. Thank you
So, I used vinyl beads for the first time. My local stores ran out of paper beads so I was wondering everyone's feelings about vinyl vs. paper. I do normally use paper, I prefer them over the others (steel, bullnose).
I do sign installation as one on the trades and over the years it is a curse. If it is not square and true. I can see it. Yep a trained eye is good and bad.
You Vancouver guys still using paper bead? Don't worry, there's a new product out of Ontario heading out there called "metal corner bead". Hope you get it soon.

I have a clinch on tool that fastens the corner bead on square without paper then I tape the flange with paper tape. It is way faster.
So, the only adhesion is the mud itself??? No screws?

have you ever used "3M Spray 61 Corner Bead Adhesive" instead of compound under corner beads?

I always have a tendency to hold my pan in front of me while I'm scraping high spots off. Arrgh crusties in my mud!

Definitely a dumb question, but are those metal saw horses that you’re standing on? 😅 if not what would those be called?
tip: when I get crumbs in the mud I wipe it on the outside of the end of the pan and the other mud is still good.
