An Opera singer can 'cut across' the orchestra with their voice. One human vs. 100+ instruments and the human voice wins? Without a mike? Awesome testament of natural talent and years of training.

this is not really easy to explain in laymans terms and he did a pretty good job. lots of people really dont understand the difference, many think that opera singers more or less just 'have it' from the beginning... nope, requires lots of training

@TweetyRock1 The operatic high notes that you hear are a covered, powerful low-head-voice note. (C5, for instance) So they're not just using chest, but head, as you said, but generally, not much higher than a C5.

Not necessarily. 3 years is nothing in extreme vocal technique training like metal screams. Based on his comments on other videos he is referring to distortion/rasp type screams not chesty belts or siren type of screams and that stuff takes time to develop properly and if he's looking for proper, free instruction on YT and opera channel surely isn't the place.

My opinion is at the 01:31 hi is not covering the sound in a plenty full voice. Its very easy doing a half covering but a full covering in the operistic sense, needs lot of feeling and not only simulating the "Classical Sound". But his Guy, yet, does a good aproach.

he said hes trying to learn TO help his metal screaming. its because the same techniques used for opera singing are related to the same vocal movements you use to scream and make it sound clean if you know what im saying

Great compared. People say it just screaming. It not not everyone can grunt scream. Just like not everyone can sing opera.

This is a pretty dated comment so vampiricknight72's issue has likely been resolved, but I think what he means by metal scream are high pitched, big sounding Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson-esque type belted notes. It seems the term 'metal screaming' applies to both air raid siren, higher pitched chesty mixed voice and to vocal fry/ false chord "vocal distortion".

This is actually a pretty accurate explanation of reality, although I wish he would've gotten his thoughts together more succinctly before recording this, take out some of those gaps and pauses! But hey that's nitpicking... I'm glad he understands the difference between volume and resonance and how it applies to popular singers and classical singers differently.
Although I'm still calling you out for stressing the wrong syllable of "occhi".

Cause it's a double consonant, so the stress should be placed on "-cchi"???

@Prolyrictenor I have a question tho (don't laugh if it sounds stupid :P). Isn't opera singing like using a powerful head voice? Or do u just use your normal voice with a more open throat to create a round and powerful tone? I'm really curious.

  • @GERMANYFrankie

resonating means OVERTONES, Kaufmann e.g. dosen't do this, thats because a artificial voice.

    Ignorance is bliss I guess.
Classical techniques will not teach you how to scream. They use different laryngeal positioning, breath support and muscularity. They will teach you how to support properly and create a great tone but it doesn't show you how to scream.
Scream/Rasp/Distortion/Growl are not configurations in classical techniques. Where do you people get this stuff?

Oh hey! Well this is an interesting take on it all. But, have you analyzed - the SonaVoyce Complete Singing System program (Have a quick look on GOOGLE - cannot remember the place now)? I have heard some mind blowing things about it. My partner got superb progress in pefecting a beautiful and powerful voice with it. I have been using it myself and am amazed at how easily and comfortably I can sing now. :-)
