This story is part of what hooked me to the first season. When it disappears again I lost my shit wondering if we would ever find out what happened? I was throughly satisfied later 😃

Yeah Bioware took a lot of 'inspiration' from other places, recently look up some old Freespace and Freespace 2 game play and well, there's more than a few parallels
Lot of Mass Effect's influences are from Star Trek and Babylon 5. For example, a soldier is ambushed in space by enemy vessel, left to die in a vacuum, but is resurrected by a shadow-government with the use of cybernetics to do fight their enemies. Now, are we talking about Mass Effect 2 intro or Babylon 5 episode "a spider in the web"?
Its' hard to explain but I like Season 1 better than Season 2 so far. It just had a different vibe for me. Sinclair was the captain I'd want and that, combined with this amazing episode Babylon Squared made a memorable season...
The best story arc and planing EVER. I remember going CRAZY when I saw them steal Babylon 4 themselves in the last seasons! What a forethought of the writers! To this day I remember this!
The way the two episodes were linked was very well done, with surprisingly few inconsistencies. Fewer than I would have thought, given the difference when both were filmed.
I had that with star trek tng for 7 years. B5 i only found out excisted years later after they almost finished, also thanks to a Trekkie fellow sci fi fan. But tB5 air here in Holland so i had to buy the DVD boxes as soon as they came out.
it was bounced around, canceled locally and picked up by another network so often that i lost track of it. fortunately there are full episodes over at daily motion. it's like visiting with old friends.
I wouldn't think it's such a good idea. Babylon 5 pretty much tells a story, start to finish. From what I can tell, there's no real "space" to add anything, especially since we know where it goes anyway. What kind of interesting, major plot line could they add into B5 before its destruction?
1:40 They make fun of B5's special effects now but some things I still think are pretty good. They had neat ideas and took time to execute the stuff they considered important
I still like the effects so I wouldn't make fun of it. I'd rather have great stories with less great effects then the other way around which is mostly the case these days.
This was such a great series, especially when a lot of the story seemed planned out way in advance. It's so great to see something in an early episode that pays off way later. Imagine what this series could look like with mire modern graphics.
True but seeing the ground breaking effects from those days is also a treat. Especially when you compare them to star trek the next generation which aired around the same time.
I am not sure they were made. Babylon 4 probably exists. Though I don't have it. I will take a look through all my books though. If i have any i will put it at the end of the first season 2 episode i make. I will have it finished in the next 2 weeks.
@@JK-Visions t no detailed mockups with the planed layout and size. all five Babylon stations are similar in design but some slight differences or even major as in the case of sublight engines in Babylon 4 case.. bab 4 was the only one put out in great detail in models with specs I think. we didn't see 2 or 3 even in glimpse in flashback.

Thanks for your reply, I never heard of Billy Pilgrim so I looked it up. For those who don't know the story: Billy Pilgrim is a fictional character and protagonist of Kurt Vonnegut's 1969 novel Slaughterhouse-Five, He has a war trauma and suffers from shizofrenia just like Sinclair(in real life too). If I read the summary correctly.
To be honest I liked the story but it wasn't my favorite. Although for the first time there was a time travel story which made at least some sense. Although I can't imagine them jumping back and forth until the end of time lol.
What I find strange is Babylon 4 rotates in two opposite directions so as your making your way along the interior suddenly you find yourself being thrown in the opposite direction Babylon 5 as you can see rotates in only one direction as it should I think the special effects guys were asleep when they did Babylon 4 no way would it be practicable to go in two different directions Even Earth Force ships rotate all in one direction B4 is the only anomaly But its just a show a great show though nothing better
There are some advantages to having two similar rotational forces balancing out each other. It would keep the non cylinder structures in the same alignment. Only the outer one is going to give gravity comfortable to humans, so there may be few transferring between the two unless the inner one is designed for aliens; it could all just be support equipment, tanks, other supplies, and the ship dock. Also a station that size it would be good to have two large completely independent habitable modules, to evacuate everyone to the other if needed. Plus transferring along the axis of rotation should not be that hard, it ends up basically zero g on both segments at the center. Though maglev elevators or trains could make the process of transitioning between the two segments idiot proof and/or faster, since if there is reason to transfer that easily could be a point of congestion.
It has counter rotation to be able to move in space with conventional engines, whereas Babylon 5 is locked to it's orbit. The designers on the show tried to lean towards hard sci fi as much as they could so took into account things like this. The Omega destroyer was originally designed with a complicated array of angled engine exhausts in order to compensate for it's single rotation, but the 3D modellers disregarded this either because it was too complex to render or just didn't look good. One could imagine instead there's some sort of internal counter-rotation going on.
@@JK-Visions There was a tie in comic called In Valen's name that show's a bit more about what happened after Babylon 4 goes back to the Great War. I had one issue but it's lost to time now. You can find scans of some pages but I cannot find a full PDF of it.
They flat out say that the Minbari would never have accepted the station or Valen if Valen didn't look like them. (Yay, space racism to the point of losing a war). That's why Valen had to be there and had to change himself.
And part of it you still up to it a little mystery. Maybe you should show season 3 part 1 and 2 to finish the mystery of Babylon 4. It would be able to finish telling the mystery of Babylon 4
I am always amazed how great his acting is and how smart he actually is written. For a character who appears maybe 3 times in the whole series I can't think of any series which had a similar important character with so little screentime.
So .... when is Baylon 6 coming online as a series? I just hope what ever JMS is doing it isn't a woke ass project. Look what happened to Star Trash and Star Wreck.

Never noticed before just how much BioWare took the design of B4 into the Citadel in Mass Effect.

At first i agreed but later on in the seasons i began to like John a lot. But i like both actors and their command of B5.

Same. I also remember here in the UK, channel 4 got a few coups in showing some episodes before the US (especially during the shadow war arc).

In a stressful situation your vision gets very narrow so I think they didn't see or didn't consider it important at that time.
