The detail of what can be achieved through foam is incredible. Not only that, but it can be done without the layer lines of 3D printing. I love printing but this is a different kind of art. Different workflow.
I feel each has their own place in the cosplay community but yeah this is my go to. No waking up to a pile of spaghetti 🤣 and if you think this is detailed check out my elden ring video where I use both foam and printing to bring that armor to life 👍
@@SKSProps I love that build! You know what would be a great subject? Making a suit movable while seemingly seamless. A very talented artist did a Spawn suit. It looked great. Not like armor in the shape of a Spawn suit. How? I feel like it is not just in practical cuts but intuitively... I feel like it has something to do with aesthetic.
Stunning as always! Would love to see you take on making the Halo Master Chief Under Suit made out of HD foam. There are a lot of 3D models available for 3D printing the base armor and helmet but no one has really come up with a realistic under suit since it is supposed to be a flexible material almost like a wetsuit. Using your 2mm and 4mm foam I think could make a very screen accurate version that you could then put 3D printed armor over it. Or just go ‘full Monty’ and make the base armor out of HD foam as well!
It's absolutely insane what you can do with foam and some paint!!! I love Halloween and the more I try to build costumes off essentially just Amazon and Hobby Lobby and get close but not close enough, the more I realize I want to join this awesome world. Obviously you got next level skills but even a piece half this good is still worlds better than what you can buy. Do you have a beginners guide? I wish there were classes locally just to get started. Great vid.
Thanks! I have lots of beginner videos all with free templates. And definitely check out the how to cosplay using eva foam video for a list of all of the tools and materials needed 👍
Absolutely love all these tutorials you do. They are easy to follow and very simple. I was wondering if you would ever make some tutorials on weathering props or armor?
You do such awesome videos! I just want to get started with foamwork and already ordered all thicknesses of your hd foam😊 We just built a prop respirator device (i think thats what its called) for the firefighter costume of our son. I wish we would have found your channel earlier🤣 I think im going to build a lot of cool stuff for the kids... and well for me🤣
Thanks for the template, rad tutorial. Your foam looks so smooth and clean, gonna buy some when I run out of the generic I have. I needed break from foam builds for a few months and this has got me back in the game.
just was in need of this for my deathstroke cosplay as i have already made the helmet. big thanks! and again shoulder guards or wrist guards tutorial would be great
Have you ever thought over using elastic to connect the separate pieces? I did that with a Batsuit i made for my daughter years ago and she found it more comfortable as she could move more freely and the suit easily moved with her. just a tip. awesome armor by the way. im going to try and make this, but with elastic. love the videos, keep it up man
Ok. I have to ask before making. Can I do summer saults on the ground without breaking this apart? No problem about some damage. It will look even more realistic. I am just worried about it getting scattered all across the floor afterwards.
It's foam, it wouldn't break apart as long as you glue it properly. But you'd need to make sure the chest is sepereated from the stomach armor with elastic that way i tcould stretch and give movement. I don't know why you want to be on the gound in your armor but it's your call
@@SKSProps Thank you very much for the reply. It will be very helpful. And, about the being on the ground part, it is to see if stunts can be made while using it. Especially for superhero characters.
Hey man i was wondering, for about what size is the template for? M or L? Other templates ive used usually say for about what size is the template is made for and about how much bigger it should be printed for larger sizes. Love this cosplay!
The template is already scaled for large (watch the how to print templates video.) but it doesn’t really matter because all of the pieces are modular and can be glued in a way to fit most body types

Hey Steven! so, question about paint jobs on cosplay. I made the chest and back armor of this particular piece as well as a full batman costume with a helmet that has foam clay on it to fill in the gaps and I live in an area where it rains A LOT. I've been concerned about my paint job and the foam clay getting ruined by the rain if I were to go out into it like if I was in a parking lot and had to walk inside the building I was going into. so what do I do to waterproof my cosplays? thank you!
You still need to Plasti dip on top of the foam and foam clay to seal the surface. It’s a rubberized coating that is waterproof. And any acrylics you add on top are also waterproof once dry
Okay, that's what I thought! I used plasti dip on the whole thing and even on the foam clay parts (sprayed it about 11 times on those parts just to be sure lol). thank you for relieving my worries, man!
For gold armor I’d recommend to prime it using a red. Like Krylon red oxide primer. It will help the gold look richer. For the acrylics I like golden brand iridescent bronze it covers really well and has a great sheen
What would you consider must haves in terms of materials especially when it comes to colours? There is such a big variety out there that i dont know where to start. What colours have you used in this video for the black and silver parts? And are there differences for these graphite powders? Sorry for the dumb questions🙏
First off they aren’t dumb questions. Check out my how to cosplay using eva foam video for all the basic tools. For colors just make sure you’re buying heavy body acrylic paints doesn’t matter the brand. Other paints are cheaper but don’t cover as well and end up costing more in the long run. In every build video I do I will show the colors I’m using before application so you can always jot them down. And there aren’t really differences in the graphite powders. You can even sand pencils
@@swissShadowbox I bounce around between different primers but plasti dip is the easiest to apply. I have also used mod podge, flexbond, and creature cast
Is the reason you heat seal your pieces before gluing so that you get a better gluing surface with less absorption or so that when heated later it doesn't shrink and pull on the glue?
Actually both to an extent. Sealing helps the glue attach and not soak in. I’m not really worried about the pieces shrinking because I only lightly heat seal but a heat gun can loosen contact cement. Also why I use a lot more super glue than contact cement

I have a question... we have 2 kids. Which parts of the work, beside the cutting are harmless and doesnt require safety equipment? Because i think my son would definately want to help at some point😅
