I'd go with a T8i over an M50 MKII. Better ergonomics and physical controls, better battery life, side SD card slot, and it natively accepts EF and EF-S lenses. There aren't many EF-M lenses to begin with, and while the adapter does give you more options, the M50 doesn't pair well with bigger lenses because of the awkward balance. If all you're using the camera for is live streaming and shooting talking head videos, then I'd get the M50 MKII and the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 and call it a day. If you're actually getting into photography and/or videography then go with the T8i.
So helpful your coment, thanks
Would you recommend the t8i if I plan on using them for RUclips videos, mostly of myself talking in front of the camera?
@@Aj-me8mo If you're just shooting talking head videos and you don't already have some nice EF/EF-S lenses, then you should go with the Canon M50 MKII and the Sigma 16mm f/1.4. If you actually plan on holding the camera while you use it, go with the Canon T8i and 17-55mm f/2.8.
Thanks for your comment. Though nowadays, people are into mirrorless camerac I will also go for the T8i. Both have Digic 8 processor.
@@Aj-me8mo please don’t 😄
Thanks for this review. I went with this one for the mic input, the Bluetooth connection and the flip out screen. Just getting into photography and videography so I feel like it was a good choice. Thanks for the lens recommendation upgrade
sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know a method to get back into an instagram account??
I stupidly lost my password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
@Angel Parker Instablaster :)
How are you liking this camera so far?
When the T2i came out I purchased it in 2011. And I filmed so
Many short films, music videos and all types of content with it. All the way up until 2017. And I’ll tel you it was a fantastic camera. I made a decent living with it. So if anyone wants to shoot 4K and get into filmmaking I would suggest going for the T8i. You’ll be surprised how far you can push that camera. Yes! It’s not a Sony, and maybe it can’t shoot in low light like the Sonys. And it doesn’t do slow motion at 120fps at 1080, etc. but you shouldn’t need these crutches when you are trying to become a better photographer/ videographer. You would want to learn how set up shots, lighting, etc.
When talking about the 1.7x crop in the 4K, you forgot to mention that it already has a 1.6x crop since it’s an aps-c camera. That makes for even more intense cropping.
I don’t consider the apsc a crop. Because I don’t feel full frame is the standard . Most people don’t buy full frame or afford full frame
I don't think the 1.7x crop is 1.7x plus the 1.6x it think when shooting 4k it's just .1x more cropped in
Love this review! Can you please be a little more specific about the lens you would recommend instead of the one that comes with the kit? Thanks!
50mm f/1.8 $129
I had the t6i when I came out and loved the camera but sadly it got ruined during the 4th of July. Just purchased the t8i and what an upgrade and a lot of the features.
I am thoroughly enjoying the new camera and thanks for the tidbits regarding video which I don’t really do that much.
- in the video he said the camera is weather sealed. Is he right about that.? I'm not able to find anything about it being weather sealed.
Excellent video. Very informative. The lens recommendations are a major plus
Simply awesome explanation 👍🏻
Btw can we have a comparison between T8i and 90D for a first time buyer who has somewhat knowledge of DSLR photography.
Which one would you recommend for a 'Rookie' DSLR photographer Upgrade:
The EOS t8i or the EOS 90D...???
Thanks for super honest review. I think i know whatll be my first camera is
Great video thank you for the information I was actually looking at the M 50 as well but I am looking for something that can handle 4K a little bit better than these two is there something you would recommend around this price range I am looking to do vlogging style videos
What would you recommend for a beginner? I was told to start using Fujifilm XT20 or Canon T8I. Any thoughts?
if i was a beginner, id personally choose Canon T8I over the other camera, mostly because it's easy to learn, it has a bigger iso range and better battery life. there's also some advantages with Fujifilm XT20, though id still prefer Canon.
What are the other Canon cameras that cost slight more than the T8i that do 4K so much better?
The T8i is not weather sealed... Unless they have updated since initial release.
Do you think this is a good camera for shooting game play videos for RUclips?
What lens do you prefer for video? I have the T8I, and mostly use EFS 35MM Macro for beauty content & also have the 50MM 1.8 (which I don't use as often as I should)
Does the flash not automatically pop up (in auto mode) on the T81????
What do you recommend between T7, T7i or T8i for photography and video (mostly filming movement/dance)? Thank you for your advice!
I went with the T8i why not pay lil more for 4k but T7i nice as well
@@MZLALA19 does the t8i have a portrait mode for photos?
@@vrobryan lol they all have portrait mode, it’s a dslr
@@MZLALA19 what software do you use to edit your photos? I’m going to buy my t8i soon but am looking for alternatives to photoshop
@@Aj-me8mo isn’t adobe suite like $10/month?
You said the kit lens is junk, what do you think of the 18-135 lens. Btw great vid. Thanx.
Canon80d or 850d which is better for still photography? Thank you..
What do you think of the 18-135 lens.
I really struggle to get sharp clear looking images. And I’m using a Tameron 70-200 2.8.
So couple of things to note.
Because you are shooting on such a telephoto / zoom lens your camera will pick up shake a lot more.
And every little jitter in your hand wil be noticed.
And If the lens is heavy that makes it even harder.
So you need to ideally shoot at 3 times your focal length, this is just my own rule.
So if you are shooting 70mm try using a shutter speed of 1/200 or so and if you are shooting 200 try /1500.
But That shutter speed should fix it. And also if you find the lens wide open is too soft try closing down to f4.
Lastly a tripod will help. I really like the ulanzi travel tripod.
Hope it helps. If you need more help. Post a new comment instead of replying so i see it.
I have this camera and really enjoy it. What flash system would you suggest with this camera? Portrait photography primarily.
Thank you man, I am going for the T8i over the M50.
I just bought the m50 yesterday from Best Buy because it’s on sale for $499 but it feels too small on my hands. Was testing it for about 2 hours and most likely going to exchange it for the t8i.
Hi sir. What are your thoughts after your purchase /experience with this camera ?
M50 is a dead end. Basically just a smartphone that can’t make calls… with a lens
Great video!! if we want to upgrade to a camera with decent full frame 4k, which would you recommend?
You are amazing! This video was really helpful for me! 😎
Great info dude. Love your stuff. I just bought the t8i. I got it for the video portion of my photography. My photos are from my D7500. What zoom lens should I buy for my t8i??? INEXPENSIVE one..
quick question; if autofocus not being useable while using 4k, and the downsize in the frame, with a gimbal I should still be able to get some good scenes no? 😬
Hello I have a question, so I have this t8i, I’ve had it for about a year and it’s great I have no real complaints with it overall but I am curious would a canon 5dmk4 be worth investing in if I wanted a few more perks and something a little more on the “professional” side and less “entry level” or are the stats so minimal that sticking with the t8i would be my best option, i just love the lenses I have currently so wanted to stick with Ef mount
Canon T8i or ZV- E10, which one you suggest for best cinematic videography
T81 with better lens or just go with ZV-E10 but with gimbal and edit on catalyst browse
Hi: Love your reviews. I know this video is about t81. I just bought the Canon Rebel T7. Love it so far. I noticed the T81 has ISO of 25k vs. the 6400 ISO of the T7. Would you recommend eventual upgrade from the t7 to t8? Video is not that important to me.. Again, thank you for the honest reviews.
The 25k iso doesnt mean it totally clean at that iso. I would recommend a new canon rf camera. If video is important , the r50 is a good budget option or the canon r7 is a great serious video camera
thank you. @@TechThroughTheLens
Hi; I sold the canon rebel t7 and bought the canon r50. So happy with the difference. Thanks for the help. @@TechThroughTheLens
Great review thanks for being honest and real. Would you buy a 850D, if you are getting it for 1/3 of the price I know it's the same as T8i but for other countries?
definitly thr lower price is worth it. Its also still a very good camera.
Hi, I have a t6i, i am amateur photographer. Is it worth the upgrade to T8I? Thanks!
If you’re mainly interested in faster autofocus, longer battery life, and 4K video, then the T8i could be a worthwhile upgrade
Hi Bro, Truly a nice content. I liked it. I am a novice for the photography. I don't want to by a cheap model but wanted something medium range to start the photography. which camera you suggest. I have compared canon T8i with other versions such as EOS4000D, EOS2000d, EOS800D and I found this one is much better. What are you opinions on this? I also got few recommendations for Nikon D7500, so should I stick with Canon which is my personal choice or should I go with Nikon?
What are the other Canon cameras with better 4K and slight more price ? Please advise?
I have a Canon T5 that i use for photography and videography (here and there) and im looking to upgrade soon. would the t8i be worth the upgrade from my t5? or should i just hold out on the purchase
I don’t want 4k shoots
I want a camera for good photography and video shooting in normal
Is cannon t8i best for me ??
If you watch these reviews, you’ll notice it’s not about photography- it’s all about pretending to be videographers
Hi River. Just to clarify, I have the Canon M50 but want a second Canon camera. Do you think I should purchase the T8i or, would you recommend another Canon camera? Thank you for your video and your time.
Compared to Canon Rebel SL3? Is it better (better photo or better video)?
Hi!Can you help me choose between this canon camera models please!SL2,T7,T6i,80D,SL3,T7i,T6,77DT8i,T100
Hey River...on the internet it says this camera is NOT weather sealed???
Hi!!!! I've been considering buying this camera and it was quite fortunate that you mentioned the Canon M50s as I work with two of them. They're solid alright, but there is one very annoying issue with cameras in NZ which is finding camera couplers that will fit the Canon M50s. I was wondering if that would be an issue with the T8i/850D? What type of relay would work for that camera?
what are you creating a relay between the two cameras for?
@@TechThroughTheLens Each camera needs a relay for power. We run 2h livestreaming sessions with a multi-camera setup.
Nice review.
Is this a good upgrade for a Canon 600D? Or the differences doesn't worth it?
Is this camera good for sports
Is this camera best for beginners in this price range? I mean for just taking photos not videos. please answer🙏
This is great camera for any skill level. But its definitely on the high end of beginner cameras. I would also consider the m50 mk II in this price range
I'm undecided between the T7i and T8i. They are similar in price on Amazon, therefore, price is no issue. I want to do nature, landscape and portrait photography along with some video. 4K is not really important as HD would be sufficient.
Also, the T8i and 850D are the same camera?
Any comments would be appreciated.
I want to know the same.
I decided to go with the T8i. Why not, right?
In America it's known as the T8i while in Australia (and other countries) it's known as the 850D. So yeh, same thing, different name.
I have a question so for videos & pictures would you recommend the T7 or T8i
I bought a T7i at the end of 2019, and loved it. Naturally the t8i came out a few months later. Still a good camera for what they are.
I ended up moving to the full frame rf system via the rp.
At the pawn shop there is a T8i for $400, should i get it, good deal? What you guys think? Comes with the lens and battery + charger.
Hi River, which canon would you recommend for mainly great photos under 1000 thanks
What about t8i vs 80D I am really confused which one to use
What kind of SD card do you recommend for the T8i?
What's the best all round lens for this camera instead of the 18_55
There is a 300mm lense that is R269 on Amazon
Correction 7:52 the 850D / T8i is not weather sealed.
Okay, if the 18-55 mm lens is junk, then why show it in so many scenes here? And what is a decent zoom lens that does the T8i more justice?
the 18-55mm lens has an 3.5 Fstop. it's based on how much aperture/light it lets in.
ive got an eos rebel with the same 18-55mm lens ditched it for a 50mm 1.8 and the 50-270mm and a UW angle lens.
Because that’s what it comes with…
great review! liked and subscribed!
Canon T8i vs Sony Zv1. Which one would u chose for tiktok videos and food photography?
Is it a Mirrorless camera
wow, i just got this Canon T8i for my vlog, amazing quality
one of my favs!
Is it worth to get extended slip/drop warranties on these cameras? 2 year for $73 and 4 year for $146? Thank you
Is it good for a starter camera? This will be my first camera and I’m debating between this and a canon eos 5D mark IV
5D miv all the way
Didn’t mention how this camera will accept non-Canon flash units. The hot shoe on the Rebel 7 only works with Canon flash units and that gets pricey when you try to overcome that “issue”
So I have the T6, you don't think it's a good enough upgrade to justify? I would think the more megapixels alone, but I'm not a expert. I've been wanting to upgrade my lenses due to all I have are the ones that came with it. Thanks for any imput.
Personally, if I had the T6 I would sell it and upgrade to the T8i. It is very worth the upgrade, and selling the T6 would boost you closer instead of just spending the entire 1000$ for the T8i out of pocket.
Love the review as I was considering this camera but after watching all the way through I'm a little more confused than when I started.
I'm a complete beginner so I won't be editing photos or videos anytime soon. I was considering this camera or possibly the 90D (but it's double the price) I don't think I need something as robust as the 90D since I am a beginner and I'm not sure I'll utilize everything.
I just need something that takes really great pictures for when I'm traveling (I want to get more into photography) and also possibly for some short videos.
Any canon camera is great for someone who doesn’t want to spend time editing!
Subscribed vecause of you i skipped on the canon t7 now im getting into the vid hoping the verdict is yess on what i need from the camera. Video 1080p and wireless, camera well everything🙈🙈🤗
Hi,
I was wondering can I get T8i without the kit lens? If so where I can find one?? Most stores I approached only sell that with a kit lens!!
Hi I do videos of planespotting at airports what camara do you think would be a really good choice? t7i? SL3? t8I?
just to make sure. The two lenses that he said to consider upgrading to were the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM and EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM lens right??
Im currently trying to invest in a dslr camera and stuck between the t7i and the t8i would I be better be better off with getting the t7i or should I just get the t8? I was leaning towards the t8 because of the 4K but if it’s not as good as you say I’m debating saving the money and getting the older one
I would say t8i if you can aafford it, it is worth the money
The one you have on your hand it has EOS Rebel T8i written on it. Is it the same as EOS 850D?
What if I i have a t6 do you think that it would be a good upgrade for mostly pictures but I want to start making video
You mentioned that it’s weatherproof, is it ? Couldn’t find it back on the specs
Great video !
The Rebel T8i is NOT weather sealed.
How did he not know this? Is he reviewing the wrong model?
So I’m looking for a startup camera but I’m not sure what camera to buy it, what would everyone recommend?
would it be more recommend than the t7i?
Yes I would
@@ParisFenty lol i got it
This or the R10 mirrorless for landscapes and architecture?
Would you say the photo quality from this is good for printing?
Oh definitly! Its 24 mp sensor!
I have the T5i and I’ve been going back and forth with possibly upgrading to the t7i or T8i I would like to get into more professional shooting would you recommend the upgrade or another camera ?
Don't mess around, get a 90D!!!
I think you can get a used 5D mark III for the same price as the T8i
Will a canon 35mm lens be good with this camera?
Hey would you recommend a canon m50 or a sony camera?
what to buy..canon 850d or canon 77d
I need camera recommendations for same or bit more money for video streaming and video capturing camera..
I like canon for its simple software and drivers to setup via obs
Please Id like to hear which other options are there for best resolution vs fps vs color vs over price for the bang
great video thx, questions: how long is the battery life of the 850d filming in 1080p?
is it worth it over 250d when 850d is 200e more expensive
How well does it work with the Dji ronin?
Hello, can you tell us where you found that the T8i is weather sealed , thank you
Just Ordered, Hope it is good 🌟
Is this a dslr or mirrorless ?
👍 great review.. i want to know is this cam better that sony A6100?.
Still trying to decide if I should buy this or the M50 MK II?? It’s my first camera, wanting to do mainly photography, family shoots, maybe some videos. Should I start off with dslr or mirrorless??
Dslr or mirrorless won't make too much of a difference. The m50 would be a great camera for photos! Though you might enjoy a dslr more simply because of the bigger body and shutter noise. Its a different feel
So as an starter do you Suggest me to buy Canon m50 ? Or what ?
NO!
what shall i buy canon 80d or 850d
Same here
All depends on what your looking for, the Canon 80D is a more advanced camera with weather sealing, very good camera, some pro photographers use them as a backup camera, uses a digiic 6 processor, released around 2016 and is now discontinued, but can still be found on the second hand market.
The canon 850D/t8i is a 2020 entry level DSLR, which doesn't have a weather sealed body, it uses the newer digiic 8 processor. Is 4 years newer then the 80D. But more of an entry level DSLR.
What about the Canon Rebel t6i?
River,
I have a Tameron B016 16mm to 300mm and it works. But I have one issue with the T8i and that is the fact that it picks up the internal autofocus/tracking. Is there a way to remedy that?
Anyone has some advice? I'm looking to upgrade from my T7 and I'm looking for a DSLR that has Manual Video mode for filmmaking and professional Stop Motion ;production. Is this a good option? Or should I go with the T7i?
Hi
I want to use the t8i for school. I'll be taking pictures and doing mini videos/movies and making my own blogs and RUclips videos do you think i should buy it?
This camera would do really really well for you!
Where can I purchase the 50mm f 1.8 lense ?
Does the in built flash pops up on its own or you have to manually pop it
I have a t7 and it automatically pops up. I assume the t8i being newer would also automatically pop up.
Great and informational video! We were looking at this camera good thing you mentioned the 4K problem that the camera has
Hi! Can you use a real remote for your shutter (not a phone)
Can I put the pictures on my S20 fe 5g phone to edit on Lightroom and put 9n fb?
Yah you jut have to buy one separately
is this camera really weatherproof...? but google says its not......
