I love my 2018 Slayer Carbon 70... I totally agree with your impressions of the bike. The bike climbs so well for so much travel and just crushes the downhills. I only ride it in the steepest and slackest setting depending on the terrain and type of ride. I've got a bunch of videos on my channel from the trails I ride with it!
southpawlibra nine - the reach is definitely shorter than bikes like the nomad and firebird. Chainstay is one of the shortest in it's class... However, these are the reasons I love the bike. Fits my riding style!
Yeah I had demo the Rocky mountain Slayer and frist time on the bike had it for 45min to hour, and it was not what I expect. It for me had great carrying speed climbing I was not too sure how that was going to pan out but I took it on one of of the hills in allaire State Park definitely surprised they cover the three points that I thought you're more important to me than how much some bikes are. Climbs a beast descends like a demon and it handled pretty well especially with a 170 and 165mm. I can say it definitely is a fun bike to ride. But I didn't have it dialed in so just the way that it was it was pretty good. I would definitely recommend this bike.
I agree about the Slayer. My previous bike was a Altitude 790 Rally and was by far my favourite bike over my past bikes inc. 1 Kona, 1 Secialized, 2 Intense and Ive tried friends Norco, Santa Cruz and Yetis. I decided to step up to a Slayer and ya its a rad bike. Climbs as well as my 2015 Altitude and descends like a beast.
The suspension platform of the slayer out performs the other platforms in my humble opinion. I have a VPP bike and a single pivot linkage driven bike, the slayer climbs better than both and with gobs more travel. The braking is almost independent from suspension movement. All in all the slayer is my favorite bike thus far. Cool video mate! Cheers!
You are one of the few riders who did not like the 140mm Instinct. For my part I find it superior to Evil Following. It is less heavy and with the ride 9 system, the head angle is more open and the wheelbase is longer, making it a more stable downhill bike in my opinion, and it remains very play full in the track. He climbs well too! The BC Edition is a bike that compares more to Evil Wreckoning because of its geometry and specs. That's my bike for 2018 and I love it! Beautiful geometry, climbs well for a long travel 29er, and hyper stable downhill! You can put the shock to 35% of sag saw his high anti squat and it works great! May be that the suspension of your demo was ill adjusted for your weight .. Anyone I know who has tried Instinct has love it. Everyone's tastes ... 😉
Bought the Instinct 70 this past March for riding in Northwest Arkansas. Love, love the bike. The bike is solid and depending what I want to ride, it takes about 5 minutes to set up the ride 9 system to fit the day's trials. I get compliments on the bike almost every day, and I have yet to come across another bike that can climb better. So glad my local GPP Cycling Shop decided to become a Rocky Mountain Dealer.
Mario Despatie glad you like the bike. It boils down to personal taste. I might have a different/better experience on it if I changed the ride 9 chip and suspension. My buddy who rode it that day with me felt the same way I did. Funny how subjective these rides are. Depending on the bike set up and trail one can have a vastly different impression.
You're right. Today's bikes have so many personal adjustments, it takes a while to dial in any bike and like you said, each trail can make a difference. The goal is to have fun!
Oh and i have a RM madain. And a intense carbone..and my nik name from the military is the slayer..so i am going to get a slayer..to add to my stable..great video.
@@WoodsRydah kool. I know the aera well. We have 6 hundred acers out on indian trail. I rode on it all the time. Along time ago..thank you for getting back to me! Maybe we will run into each other..i will be watching your videos..thank you again.. ..SLAYER.
I have a 2019 Instinct BC, bought as a leftover 01/2020, AMAZING price, upgraded to carbon wheels and RF 800 carbon bars, yes 27.5 spins up a bit faster, my 2018 Spectral was 27.5 but i like the RM MUCH better
I would like to see how they would compare on a more technical “enduro” trail. These bikes are definitely made more towards that then flow trails. Great review otherwise!
Jason Johnson I agree. The Slayer would be more at home on double blacks and at the bike park. It was too much bike for these trails but unexpectedly felt pretty good on these trails.
Considering the Instinct BC was piloted by the second place World Enduro team this year in Team Rocky Mountain, I think it's more than capable up and down. I always wonder if fancy boutique brands like the evil have that pre- disposed bias towards them simply because they are boutique and that translates into people's reviews. Not to say your opinion is not valid however, I have seen other RUclipsrs say the same. If they Instincts for pros, they must be good for us mere mortals on two wheels no? haha
Adam Kammer good point. I also consider that pros ride whatever they get paid to ride. I don’t think there is a big difference in capability between most brands. They are all good. As the saying goes: it’s 10% the bike and 90% the rider. I’ve dice sold my evil and now ride a Fezzari. I’ve loved all the bikes I’ve owned and they all were capable.
@@WoodsRydah At this point if you're shelling out $3k+ on a bike you will get a great bike no matter what brand. I find suspension upgrade and tuning is what made my Rocky Altitude go from alright to stellar bike IMO. I would like to get into one of those Instinct BC's though! Nice video though! Thanks or the review

Calvin Yu. If I had the money I'd buy it.
Reach is too short

Yeah 100% True, i ride the RM Slayer 70 2018 too. Great Bike. Love it.

The instinct bc edition is 155mm rear the normal instinct is 140mm

Thx. Good insight.
I rode up Penn Trail then down cave trail on Canfield mtn. In Coeur d'alene Idaho.
What is the name of this trail and where is it?

The Instinct in this video is no a BC edition as the title says.
Good eye! The 1st Instinct shown is not a BC edition; later in the video I ride a second Instinct that is a BC edition.
