This song was in our dialect from Fataleka, Baegu in the Solomon Islands 🇸🇧.. Sasi sasi ae, its about someone baby sitting his/her brother while their parents went to gather foods .
Can you please write the lyrics in English letters so I can sing along properly? The transliterations that have always been available online never sound how they sing it live
The whole first Deep Forest was one of my wife's favorite albums. She paseed of cancer in 2019. This song sometimes mskes me cry. My wife was only 46 when she passed
From my home land of Malaita in the northern side, Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean, I'm very intrigued and proud by the high level of recognition and devotion given internationally to our childhood play time lullaby song. Its normally sung by elder sisters and brothers to their younger siblings to wan their eyes lips to the dream world of sleeping. Yes, it now will live forever, though the original recording was done in the mid 1960s by a France Ethnographer before I was ever born. As a result of this very famous artistic work by the Deep Forest Project, 60 years down the line to this present time, Solomon Islands has now formalized and registered its Solomon Islands Ethno Music Association. Their Ethno music artists are now flooding the New Zealand, Australia and Asian music sphere. Top 5 songs of all time, on my part; the unsung hero for this special event - the bassist! Excellent job all round, guys. The song will live on long beyond us, and much love and recognition to its creators and the musicians involved 🙏
Absolutely breathtaking. Describing something as epic nowadays only results in a decrease in the power of that word, but to hell with it; this is _truly_ an epic performance.
This song today is practically a prayer but, I am sure that at dawn of the first day after the end of the world, of this world, of this civilization... this same melody will resonate in the sky and the new humanity will sing, dance and cry, but no longer from sadness or anger but from happiness for the peace that this new awakening will give to those who have passed the great test.
If you go to Afunakwa-Topic channel and listen to Rorgwela-Lullaby you will hear an old lady singing. Recorded in 1970 by a field trip to the Solomon Islands, this was used by Deep Forest on 1st album 1993. ❤❤
I bet no one can sing the lyrics so they keep using Afunakwa's original vocal sample. Yes, the vocal was originally recorded by Hugo Zemp, performed by Afunakwa in Baegu and Fataleka language from Malaita, Solomon Islands 🇸🇧 ❤

Its so funny and shameful that you keep on twisting and changing the arrangements of this very song for years..but you can't simply acknowledge those who originally own this song for couple of decades now..The only hit song in the world that you never see or hear a vocalist actually sings it on stage...what a shame...benefiting from a stolen song...same people who stole our wealth and resources in history during the colonial era...
Her name was Afunakwa, and I would've never known she or the lullaby even existed without this song. Deep Forest should have paid royalties to her & her family. As far as the lullaby itself being sung live on stage, Afunakwa reportedly passed away by the mid to late 1990s. Despite this cloud, the song itself has helped to bring the world a little closer together as well as to give tribute to the Solomon Islands. 🫶 ✌️

Sweet lullaby sung for babies in a dialect from the Solomon island - Pacific Island. Like the additional pieces added. So eerie and awesome

this music is wonderful... the simplicity of the children's voices added to the samplers brings an unbelievable peace... 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

What do you mean ‘owns the song’? Surely they have just used samples… obviously you couldn’t find someone to perform the sample accurately. Cheer up.
