- This video will show you how to crochet a cool, diagonal basket weave throw blanket or afghan! Find the full, free pattern on my blog here www.mamainastitch.com/diagona... . For this pattern, you will simply repeat row 2 & 3 until your blanket is as long as you'd like. I used a chunky weight yarn, Lion Brand Color Made Easy, for my blanket and a size K crochet hook. I hope you enjoy it!

You’re the first one and I really thank you for this for just doing a swatch instead of a whole blanket
That’s really cozy looking. It would make a great cardigan!! Thank you!!
YES!!! You are the first person to show how to wrap the yarn around your pinkie! My grandmother showed me this and most people just pinch yard between their fingers. ~ (not good) Your video is fabulous and I love this pattern! Thank you so much for sharing this!
Funny. I also wrap my yarn around my pinkie ☺️ I learned to crochet in elementary school.
So do I
Thank you for sharing this beautiful crochet stitch tutorial ! Your crochet works are gorgeous ! 😊💗
I make a lot of basketweave afghans but this diagonal pattern is absolutely gorgeous!!!
Thanks Loree!
I love basket weaving and your tutorial video is perfect for the baby blanket I’m working on. Thank you so mush.
This is really gorgeous and so warm looking. Thank you so much for sharing your pattern love it.
Beautiful blanket thank you for your kindness 😍
I did a row of double crochet for my first row and then did the repeat of the diamond. So much easier to start!
OHHHHHH so PRETTY!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE your patterns!!
Thank you!!
LOVE THIS. THANK YOU. GREAT JOB!
So pretty and with that yarn it looks soft and not stiff. If that makes sense. Once again you have made another gorgeous pattern. Thank you.
Ahh thank you!
The yarn looks like it’s awesome to work with
Thanks so much for an easygoing video, I can wait to begin
This is gorgeous. I will have to do it now.
So pretty Jessica, you create the most fabulous patterns. I crochet but I enjoy seeing your knitting patterns also.
Ahh thanks for all your support Cheryl!
Hello, I just found your channel today. I love how you explain your process in the tutorials. I am fairly new at crochet. Thank you!
Looks beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
So beautiful gorgeous design 💗
Hi Jessica ! I’m making an Afghan using your blanket stitch pattern rn. Love this pattern, thank you for sharing 💞
kim wright so glad you like it!!
beautiful in the bulky grey. TYFS
Thanks for posting this! I'm currently working on a blanket using this pattern, and it's looking great so far and will make a wonderfully cozy Christmas gift. My local Michael's didn't carry the Lion Brand Color Made Easy yarn you used, so I opted for Red Heart Soft Essentials since both yarns are bulky weight 5, and I can use the 6.5 mm hook with either. It's a little fuzzier than what's shown here, but I don't mind. I think this pattern would look good with nearly any weight of yarn and corresponding hook, though. It's a bit tricky at first, but once you stop and figure out where you're going it's not too hard to get the hang of it. After I give this blanket away, I may make another with this pattern for myself!
I love the design & the warmth this pattern will give. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome!
I just found your video and I think it is beautiful. Definitely worth trying! Cheers! ♥
Jessica, that’s gorgeous! X
Thanks Chrissie!
Awesome! Nice tutorial!
Lovely. Tfs
Thank you so much!!😀🙏
This stitch would make a nice sweater!
So glad you like it!
@@mamainastitch I'm working on my boyfriend sweater now!
Thank you so much for making this video. I tried making this using your written pattern because I didn't realize you had a video for it and although I'm an experienced crocheter for the most part I've never done basketweave and I got completely lost on row two even though I've done cables where you crochet skipped stitches from the back. Thanks again.I'm about to start over
beautiful pattern - Ruthie

Veri beautiful.

That is beautiful! 😍 I think that will be my next one to make!
So happy you like it!
Gracias por enseñarnos
De nada!
So beautiful!!! I can't wait to make this!!! Can you mention your hook size in mm as well. It seems to be the only measurement that is universal when purchasing hooks.😊 thank you! I really love your tutorials!!
I believe it's a 6.5mm
bellezaa!!!!
Bravaaaa
Eres maravillosa e inteligente
Thank you. Can this be done with double crochets?
Hi and thank you for this fantastic tutorial! How many would you recommend to chain for a baby blanket? Still 118?
Thank you for making this video I found the written pattern and was a little unsure but thought it was such a lovely blanket I'd have to try anyway. This really is a help. I was wondering if you think it would be possible with this pattern to switch colours and if so at what point would you recommend?
I just found you and this very perfect stitch for a couch throw I am making! Do you have a tutorial on how to change the yarn color during the project, I want to create a pattern with stipes.
I really appreciate you sharing this! Would it be possible for you to do another tutorial with a little bit longer starting chain? I seem to keep messing up. Sorry for being a slow student.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️👏🏼👏🏼
👍👍👍👍
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I'm super excited and want to start on this TONIGHT!! But I have a question ... when you go to treble into the 3 skipped stitches, I noticed sometimes you went into them differently. Do you go into the top or the side? THANKS!
Love ❤️ it. Thank you 🥰👍🏻
Hi Jessica, if I want to try to make this in the round and use it as a hat pattern could I do the three skip stitches always from the front?
Are you working into just the back loop on your triple crochet when working to the back and into both loops when working to the front?
How much would I have to chain for a full size bed?
How much yarn would you need for a queen size blanket?
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
جميل
can this be done in a round pattern? I'd love to make a hat with this stitch :)
I’ve bought the pattern but I’m using a yarn that requires a 4mm hook, how do I work out how many skeins I need? The yarn is 100g per skein
i was soooo wanting to get this stitch right, but I just couldn't do it. Row 2 the work was twisted and couldn't figure out the stitch path. Really disappointed.
@@jbob64 i think I could do it if each row was a different color
I know what you mean by this so what I do is after every 6 stitches I put in a stitch marker so I can follow along the row. The work is twisted and hard to follow in the beginning so the only way I can do it is to use stitch markers. Its tedious and a lot of work but that will help guide you. Especially if you are using a polyester yarn or something close to it because the loops are already hard to find sometime. I actually put stitch markers even in my chain links so I was in track and didn't get my chains flipped either. I would out a stitch in each DC stitch and then after each set of 6. And if you follow the loops from stitch marker to stirch marker you can see the loops so much easier and not get your work tangled up. Hope that helps.
This is a yarn hog, luckily I have a large stash I got on clearance from Michael’s of a really nice chunky yarn. Thanks.
Can we make this pattern multi-color?

So beautiful! Please help with the crochet size. Away from home and they use numbers for the crochet sizes. Thank you so much for your info. 😘
You can just google crochet sizes and it'll show you.
Please i didnt understood what is size k ?? We dill with numbers size 3 4 5 or what ??
size k is a 6.5mm, the letters confuse me too
@@eldritchyarnbeing3295 K is a 6.5. I see that others above have said it's a 6.0 but it is not...it's a 6.5 A J hook is a 6,0
Why do you have 4 double crochet on one side and 5 on the other
Hello. Could you please tell me the name Of the producer for this yarn? Although i play video in slow Motion , Its impossible to see. I live in Norway, I have to order online. Thank you🇳🇴🌻
I buy a PDF but a did not receive any think in my email
Hello , l have tried 4 times to do this stitch but it is not working out . Could it be that l am left handed ? I am able to follow other tutorials without any problem ,this has got me with this stitch . Thank you .
Same here! I am also left-handed and have spent countless hours trying to get this right. It works on one end and not another. I have also tried different numbers of chains to no avail. Very disappointing. The pattern just isn't working at all.
It should work the same even for a left hand. I suggested to someone else in the comments to use lots of stitch markers in this pattern because it twists a lot in the beginning. I put stitch markers in every DC loop and then every 6 stitches to mark the work. It helped me stay on track and know exactly where my loops were. So I wasn't going back and ripping up work. Its not a very comfortable stitch and really takes a lot of patience. But there is no way I would be able to do this without stitch markers. I am using a bernet blanket yarn which is polyester so a stitch marker helps a lot.

Hmmm. I got to row 4 or 5 and didn’t have a problem with it twisting or anything. It was just the one side end of row that didn’t work with the instructions given no matter how many times I tried it. It was almost as if it needed another half diagonal set or something. I’m not a new crocheter so I keep trying and trying, but it isn’t working. I really really wanted to make this blanket for a friend too :/ I wish I had a wash to send you the picture of it because then you’d know what I was explaining
Hmmmm, yeah I am trying to picture what you mean but having trouble. Have you ever tried sketching the pattern out. Sometimes I will do that before I start to make sure I get it. I will make little circles, like for the loops, and count up ny rows a few times. Sometimes you can see where you go wrong or if there is something that can be changed. The pattern can be adjusted easily. As long as you keep sections of 6...... maybe since you are lefthanded could you try switching row 2 and 3 and working up that way. Maybe if you worked it backwards it might be different for you. I don't know how you adjust patterns being lefthanded. This pattern is basically a cable stitch, so once you get the first few rows down you should be able to be fine at 4, that's where I am trying to visualize where it might be messing up on you. Because essentially you are repeating steps. So if you were able to do 2 and 3, 4 should be working out for you. Do you know if she has a link to a written pattern anywhere ??
Amanda Amerman
Oh good thinking! Maybe I will try switching rows 2 and 3 and see if that helps. Thank you for your input!
I would have loved if you had put one more repeat in your rows. When doing the row 2 you show only one of the stitching in the back and it's after that that I'm having a problem.I got the first cluster of stitch in the back but the space after that looks entirely different to me and I don't know what stitches to crochet into. I guess I 'll have to go to someone else's video to try to figure out the rest of row 2.
Needed a bigger swatch to show pattern properly rather than just one pattern stitch..
Vids are nice but need written directions posted.
I don't like how she does not stitch through both loops consistently. If you are going to work on a foundation chain you should either go through either both loops or a single loop throughout the row. I prefer working both loops to make a finished edge.
The UNIVERSAL measurement, agreed upon and understood by all educated people the world over, is the METRIC system. PLEASE use millimeters (mm) for hook size.
Who the hell knows what size a "K" hook is? I have 2 conversion charts - one says a "K" hook is 6.0mm and other states a "K" hook is 6.5mm. PLEASE just use "mm" to avoid any and all confusion.
I live in the United States and agree that conversion charts can be really tricky, especially when they give contradictory information; however, it is generally agreed upon that a size K is a 6.0 mm hook, hope this helps, Happy Crocheting!
@@tabletwalks3103 My point, I think, was that we don't NEED "conversion charts." I really don't care which system of measurement is used... just pick ONE and everyone use it. Why complicate what has no need to be complicated?
It's the same thing with DATES. Some use M-D-Y, some D-M-Y. and some use Y-M-D. I believe the international "standard" is Y-M-D. Often it's impossible to determine the date because of this stupid confusion.
Me too i am from algeria ....we do that with numbers in (mm) ...thank u for aasking ..because of u i found the answer ❤❤
