I DID IT!!! I tried this as an experiment. Didn't love the colors but chose the colors I had extra of. I had some trouble with the sizing and making sure i had the correct beginning chain. I'll have to get a better handle on it before I do another one. But all in all I'm pretty proud of myself for getting it done. And now that it's done, I don't hate the colors. Yay!!!

June 30 2024: Love the explaination of the filet stitch and ending the row to have a smooth edge. This looks so complicated, but you have shown how it is doable. You are so right when measuring strains and how they grow! Wow that weaving really secures the tassels also. Side note I have never seen a “yarn bobbin”. This makes it so easy with picking colors. Thank you for the pointers and your “mistakes” that gives us notice of what may happen. Just came across your channel and needed a blanket for my teen grandson. This one is perfect. Thank you for posting this gorgeous blanket.

This really is a very lovely blanket. I wonder if a line of sewing at each end might just keep those strands secure? (Have you ever done that? I haven’t, but I also have never woven strands through an entire afghan before. I’d be afraid of them being pulled, say, by a hair clip or piece of jewelry or something. I’d think as long as you use thread the same color as the chain row at each end, it wouldn’t be noticeable at all. Just wondering out loud). Thanks for the demonstration of the filet stitch, I’m not familiar with that one because I usually only do zig-zag afghans or something with a minimal-holes stitch. 😊

I love it❤! For some reason, El Dorado came to mind. Then I looked up the meaning & now I know why!
    People also ask
    What does El Dorado mean?
    gilded one
The Spaniards called the city ruled by this flamboyant monarch "El Dorado," Spanish for “gilded one,” and the story of the gold-covered king eventually grew into a legend of a whole country paved with gold. These days, “El Dorado” can also used generically for any place of vast riches, abundance, or opportunity.

Also, I just made a filet type shawl and was thinking of weaving in another color to fill the filet areas bc they are a little bigger due to my not being able to find the right size hook when I started. Oh my goodness!! I love this!!
I have never made a blanket before, so I think I should maybe adapt this for a shawl or scarf as a first try at a large scale project. But oml it's so pretty!!

I made one in the 1970's or 1980's and (I thought I made up the pattern) the only problem was it was so heavy! I crocheted a 2x2 net and then crocheted chains to weave through. I went to the library and got a book on tartan patterns and used a simple one to make my afghan. It felt like it weighed about 10 pounds dry and about 50 pounds wet. It was very easy to snag the chains, but snags were easy to fix. I used worsted weight very soft acrylic.

This was a super fast blanket. It took about 2 days to make the net and about 3 days to crochet and weave the chains. I sewed on my sewing machine, the bottom and top edge to keep the chains from moving around or a kid or cat pulling them out. I'm not super fast, either! It took about an hour to do the colors and make sure the middle WAS the middle and both sides were the same.

Watching this video just reminded me that I made this afghan years ago, but have no idea where I stored it.
All I remember from it was the weaving was difficult because my space wasnt large enough to hold the blanket flat.
Love the colors you chose ❤
